The Manager, Advanced Practitioners is a clinical leader, but also administratively responsible for physician assistants and nurse practitioners (APs), in reference to personnel matters and day to day operations. Partners with service line’s physician and administrative leadership, ensuring the AP onboarding/orientation, education, and daily clinical operations, are successfully accomplished and aligned with the service-line’s strategy and goals.

Responsible for ensuring the APs are efficient, coordinated, and compliant with department policies & procedures. Responsible for APs day-to day operations, ensuring high quality standard of care is delivered and strategic goals are achieved, in a fiscally responsible manner. In addition to the Manager, Advanced Practitioners position, he/she is responsible for providing clinical services to the service line as defined in the Advanced Practitioner job description.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Partners with administrative and physician leadership, in accomplishing the goals and initiatives of the department.
  • Serve as a mentor and resource for service-line’s APs, regarding clinical, professional, and administrative leadership development.
  • Responsible for service-line’s APs day to day operations
  • In conjunction with physician leadership and administration, is responsible for advance practitioner personnel matters & decisions, both internal and external, to the department.  (i.e. formal counseling for disciplinary reasons)
  • Identifies needs and required support for the APs within the department. Assists with development of programs or services, to meet those needs. 
  • Resource for staff and physicians, in relation to AP scope of practice, the multidisciplinary care model, and the job role of the AP.
  • Coordination of AP students being assigned, and successfully completing clinical rotations with service-line and/or provider group.
  • Assists with recruitment & hiring of APs
  • Maintains a formal/documented onboarding/orientation process for APs hired onto the service line.
  • Ensures completion of required AP educational activities & requirements (i.e. competency, skill reviews, mandatory in-servicing)
  • Facilitates and/or participates in AP group, service-line, hospital, and/or unit operational and clinical committee meetings
  • Attends and participates in department’s operations, clinical review/development, and performance improvement/quality committees and/or meetings.
  • Ensures monthly rounding, and annual performance evaluations, are completed on APs, in a timely manner
  • All duties, responsibilities, and functions of the Advance Practitioner job description
  • Other related duties, as assigned

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Sit up to 3-5 hours per day; 1-2 hours at a time.  Stand for up to 3-5 hours per day; 2 hours at a time.  Walk 1 hour per day.  Frequently lifting, carrying and pushing objects up to 10 pounds.  Rarely lifting, carrying and pushing objects up to 75 pounds.  Frequently stooping and bending.  Frequently reaching above shoulder level.  Must be able to perceive attributes of an object through touch. Must be able to hear as it relates to normal conversation, high and low frequencies.  Must be able to see as it relates to general, near, far, color and peripheral vision.  Must be able to speak as it relates to normal conversation and projection as it relates to lectures and presentations.

EDUCATION:

Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner, Medical Physician Assistant, or Osteopathic Physician Assistant with current license to practice in the state of Pennsylvania and/or New Jersey.

Master’s Degree required; MHA/MBA preferred; Doctorate optional.

Physician Assistants must also have a current certification through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: 

Three (3) years experience in Advanced Practitioner leadership preferred.
