The School of Sciences & Humanities at Wentworth Institute of Technology seeks Adjunct Faculty in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. 

Course Description:

Industrial and Organizational (IO) Psychology is a scientific discipline that studies human behavior in the workplace. IO psychologists help institutions with hiring, managing, developing, and supporting employees while working to align employee efforts with business needs. Intended outcomes of IO psychology include stronger talent development, reduced turnover, increased productivity, and improved employee engagement. The tools and methods used in IO psychology are grounded in scientific inquiry and incorporate statistics, research techniques, and other evidence-based approaches to understanding and improving human behavior at work. 

Course Goals:

The goal of this course is to introduce students to the theory, research, and application of Industrial and Organizational Psychology. Students examine the scientific study of work and organizations, including job analysis, employee selection, training and development, performance management, motivation, leadership, organizational culture, and organizational effectiveness. The course emphasizes the application of evidence-based approaches to workplace challenges and organizational success. 

Learning Goals & Objectives:

Students who successfully complete this course should be able to:

• Develop an understanding of the field of Industrial and Organizational Psychology, including theory, research, and application. 

• Understand the foundations of job analysis and how work is studied and evaluated. 

• Explain how organizations use research, employee selection systems, and training practices. 

• Create, design, and evaluate selection systems, training programs, and performance evaluation processes. 

• Analyze approaches organizations use to create supportive and effective work environments. 

• Apply psychological principles to contemporary workplace and organizational challenges. 

Responsibilities:

The adjunct faculty member is responsible for a combination of these tasks depending on the particular teaching assignment:

• Preparing a syllabus for the course and distributing the syllabus to students, based on parameters set by the faculty and dean of the School of Sciences & Humanities and the Provost's Office.

• Teaching assigned Industrial/Organizational Psychology courses.

• Preparing assignments, examinations, projects, and presentations consistent with course learning objectives.

• Grading assignments and examinations in a timely manner.

• Meeting with students outside of class as required.

• Maintaining regular communication with students regarding course expectations and performance.

• Submitting final grades and required course documentation according to university deadlines.

• End of semester course reflections and assessment of program learning outcomes.

Required Qualifications:

• Master's degree or higher in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Organizational Psychology, Organizational Behavior, Human Resources, or a closely related field with demonstrated expertise in Industrial/Organizational Psychology.

• Demonstrated knowledge of Industrial and Organizational Psychology theory, research methodologies, and applied practice.

• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in interpersonal and classroom settings.

Desired Qualifications:

• Ph.D. or ABD in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Organizational Psychology, or a closely related discipline.

• College-level teaching experience in Industrial/Organizational Psychology.

• Professional experience in personnel selection, assessment, training and development, talent management, employee engagement, organizational development, workforce analytics, leadership development, or organizational consulting.

• Ability to connect theory and research to contemporary workplace challenges and organizational practice.

• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success.

• Experience teaching in face-to-face, hybrid, or online environments.

Position Details:

At this time, the university is unable to sponsor applicants for H-1B visas.

Adjunct faculty compensation varies based on instructional mode (lecture or lab), number of course credits, and program. The minimum adjunct rate is $1474 per credit
