Description of Work

The primary purpose of the Activity Coordinator (AC) position is to ensure the safety of and provision of quality active treatment for the people residing in their assigned home. The role is primarily responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing activities that support the residents’ formal and informal goals throughout the day to support continuous active treatment. The role serves as a member of the home management team for the home to which they are assigned and is responsible for providing input and following through if changes need to occur under the guidance of the Health Care Supervisor (HCS). In the absence of the HCS or the Shift Supervisor (SS), the Activity Coordinator provides direct administrative supervision of Health Care Technician I (HCT I) positions present at that time. The Activity Coordinator is directly supervised by the home’s HCS.

Salary Range: $32,444.00 – $48,665.00

A Sign-on bonus of $2,500 may be offered to the successful applicant(s) of this posting, contingent on the 2025-2026 Budget Approval.

This Position Is Designated As Mandatory And Must Report Or Stay Over During Adverse Weather Events.

The J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center in Morganton, North Carolina is an ICF certified facility for individuals with intellectual disabilities. We provide comprehensive residential care to citizens from 37 counties in the western portion of the state. JIRDC is a caring community where professionals work with people of various ages, cognitive, & functional abilities.

Iverson Riddle Developmental Center is located just an hour from the Queen City of Charlotte, home of the Carolina Panthers and the City of Asheville, home to the world renowned Biltmore Estate and Grove Park Inn.   Our facility sits on one of the most picturesque properties in Burke County.  We are nestled at the foot of the Blue Ridge and South Mountains and just minutes from beautiful Lake James.  Nearby Pisgah National Forest offers outdoor adventure and fun for the whole family.

Veteran’s and National Guard Preference

Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus:

To qualify for the Sign-on Bonus, a newly hired permanent full-time or permanent part-time employee must work 30 to 40 hours per week to be eligible. Those who are eligible and working less than 40 hours a week will receive a prorated rate.


An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:

  • The employee has held a position in the North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system, within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date)

  • The employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency

  • DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.
