Job Description
The Acoustic Test Group (ATG) at Bose is responsible for developing and deploying test plans, software, and hardware for Bose products in collaboration with our contract manufacturers and partners. We are a dynamic and innovative team, continually improving our acoustic test solutions while responding quickly to the challenges of new product complexities and schedules.
Our team is growing, and we are looking for a skilled engineer with expertise in acoustics, automated audio testing, and manufacturing to join us. In this role, you will utilize technical proficiency to manage acoustic test programs, coach partners and contract manufacturers, and ensure successful deployment of testing solutions in manufacturing.
About You:
We are looking for an inquisitive engineer with initiative to bring new ideas to fruition for the team and support challenging test implementation through debugging and coaching. The right person will enjoy being challenged and solving tough problems. They will strive to improve the way things are done and will actively debate how and be engaged in doing so.
As an acoustic test engineer, you should have expertise in acoustics and automated audio testing, electrical engineering, and experience programming with LabVIEW/Test Stand software and other test software platforms (AP, Matlab, Python, etc.). As a candidate, you must also have organizational and project management skills, and the ability to write concise and clear reports, and be fluent in English as a second language.
Responsibilities:
- Be proactive about networking, gain visibility into current processes, and develop new ones
- Gain a deep understanding of Bose products under test, acoustic test hardware and software, and the details of acoustics measurements used in manufacturing.
- Set up and perform acoustic measurements when needed to support debugging and verification of partner test plans and test approaches
- Develop, implement, and manage test plans in collaboration with internal teams and external partners to support new product development.
- Track the progress of programs, ensuring schedules are maintained, risks are mitigated, and objectives are met.
- Process and analyze build data using engineering tools, providing insights to improve test solutions and product quality.
- Lead communication with Contract Manufacturers (CMs) and external partners to review, coach, and align their test processes with Bose standards.
- Support communication of requirements and processes with partners
- Travel onsite to manufacturer’s facilities to support and audit product builds and debug and resolve test issues
- Engage with remote engineers to organize audits.
- Provide comprehensive reports and presentations to program teams, summarizing technical findings, program updates, and key performance indicators.
- Further refine your knowledge in acoustics and acoustic/audio testing
Qualifications:
- 4+ years of hands-on experience in developing and implementing audio/acoustic manufacturing tests and troubleshooting manufacturing and test processes for high volume consumer electronic production lines.
- Experience making acoustic measurements and minimizing sources of error.
- Excellent test debugging skills; able to root cause product firmware, manufacturing test software/hardware/process issues.
Skills Required:
- Knowledge in electrical engineering, test engineering, acoustics and/or audio measurements.
- Knowledge related to acoustic tuning, audio signal path/algorithm in the passive loudspeakers, Bluetooth speakers, and microphone audio path/algorithm in the smart speaker.
- Knowledge in basic digital signal processing and spectral analysis such as FFT, filtering, etc.
- Knowledge of transducers, passive loudspeakers, and/or professional audio products.
- Familiarity with audio interfaces (e.g I2S, HDMI, etc.) and common communication interfaces (e.g. I2C, ethernet, etc.)
- Familiarity with automated defect detection (Rub and Buzz testing) and related failure mode analysis
- Experience in troubleshooting and/or verifying complex test systems using lab equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, etc.)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office tools, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
- Experience with project management and ability to work in global cross-functional teams.
- Familiarity with Matlab, SoundCheck, Klippel, and TestStand.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Mandarin and English.
- Basic knowledge of statistics to calculate/understand process capability.
Education:
- BS in Electrical Engineering, acoustic/audio engineering, or related field.
- Preferred: MS degree in electrical engineering, acoustic/audio engineering, or related field.
