The Opportunity
We’re looking for an Accounts Receivable Collections Analyst to manage a portfolio of customer accounts and help collect payments on time. You’ll investigate overdue balances, resolve payment issues, and build relationships with customers’ Accounts Payable teams.
This role calls for persistence, careful analysis, and good judgment in sensitive conversations. You’ll work with teams across Flexport and use AI and automation to improve daily collections work. The role reports to the Head of North American Collections.
You Will
- Manage collections for assigned accounts through email and phone outreach. Prioritize overdue balances and follow through on commitments to help meet cash collection and days sales outstanding (DSO) targets.
- Review account aging and collection activity daily. Keep records of customer conversations, payment promises, disputes, and next steps accurate and up to date.
- Build relationships with customers’ Accounts Payable teams and act as their point of contact for collections and payment questions.
- Coordinate incoming requests and handle initial escalations. Resolve issues promptly and bring in the right team when a problem needs further review.
- Investigate complex account balances and recommend next steps based on the facts, customer history, and payment risk.
- Research invoice and payment discrepancies, reconcile account information, and work with the appropriate teams to resolve customers’ AR/AP questions.
- Work with Credit to arrange and monitor approved payment schedules for overdue accounts.
- Lead biweekly reviews with business leaders on open receivables, collection risks, and the actions needed to resolve them.
- Work with Credit, Account Management, Sales, Disputes, and Legal to resolve issues that delay payment while maintaining professional customer relationships.
- Use approved AI tools to summarize account histories, analyze aging data, and draft follow-ups. Verify amounts and claims before acting, protect customer information, and work with the AR manager to test and document process improvements.
- Support Finance and Accounting with month-end close activities, accurate account records, and other projects as needed.
Success in Your First Year
- Your assigned accounts have clear action plans, reliable records, and consistent follow-up.
- Collection performance improves against agreed targets, with overdue balances and disputes addressed promptly.
- Customers and internal partners receive clear answers and dependable service.
- You use AI and process improvements to reduce manual work while maintaining accuracy and financial controls.
You Should Have
- Strong performance and ownership of results in work, school, or projects you’ve pursued.
- The ability to learn unfamiliar processes and systems quickly, ask thoughtful questions, and apply feedback.
- Clear written and verbal communication, attention to detail, and the judgment to handle sensitive conversations professionally.
- Persistence and initiative: you follow up, find practical ways to resolve issues, and take responsibility for results.
- The ability to work independently and with others, manage competing priorities, and stay organized as workloads change.
- Hands-on experience using generative AI to research, analyze, or improve a recurring task. You can explain how you used it and checked the results.
- Strong problem-solving skills: you can investigate a discrepancy, identify what is missing, and follow the issue through resolution.
- Sound judgment about AI output and confidential data. You verify facts and figures, recognize when an answer is unreliable, and know when to seek human review.
- Comfort working with numbers and spreadsheets. You can organize information, spot inconsistencies, and learn the Excel or Google Sheets tools needed to investigate account balances.
- Collections, finance, customer service, and experience with NetSuite, Tesorio, or Stripe are helpful but optional.
