Job Summary

This position is responsible for performing a wide range of accounting tasks that require an understanding of basic to moderate accounting principles under general supervision. Key duties include preparing and reviewing general ledger accounts, journal entries, and various spreadsheets, as well as maintaining financial documents related to accounts payable and receivable. The role involves supporting month-end transactions, performing basic variance analysis, and preparing data for journal entries and the general ledger. The position assists with the financial activities of certain subsidiaries, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of their accounting systems and the timely preparation of financial statements in compliance with GAAP. Responsibilities include confirming financial reporting accuracy by monitoring revenues, expenses, and balance sheet accounts, analyzing variances, reconciling general ledger accounts, and completing other monthly general ledger closing procedures. The position may also participate in projects aimed at optimizing processes and delivering efficiencies within the team, as well as engaging in accounting research, analysis, and implementation.

Work Location:

This position is eligible to work hybrid or onsite in accordance with our Telecommuting Policy. Applicants must reside in Kansas or Missouri or be willing to relocate as a condition of employment.

What you'll do

• Compute, analyze, and record financial transactions in the general ledger.
• Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations and resolve any discrepancies.
• Develop, maintain, and review spreadsheets and workbooks to support general ledger balances and the associated financial reporting and analysis.
• Review and analyze monthly financial statements and reports in compliance with GAAP and governmental reporting standards.
• Assist with accounting analysis on revenues, expenses, and other key financial metrics to identify trends and resolve discrepancies.
• Support month-end and year-end closing processes, including recording journal entries and performing variance analysis.
• Investigate financial discrepancies and prepare and provide documentation for internal and external audits.
• Maintain organized and accurate financial records and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures, and contribute to process optimization projects and initiatives to enhance efficiency.
• Stay informed of changes in accounting regulations and best practices.

What you'll need

Education

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field required

Experience

• Less than 1 year's experience in financial accounting or a related field required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), managerial accounting, and financial reporting standards.
• Specialized knowledge of costing, line of business, and governmental accounting is needed for certain aspects of this role.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in recording financial transactions.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
• Effective verbal and written communication.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Compensation

$64,400 - $80,500
Exempt, Grade 14
