ABOUT THE ROLE

This role fills our pipeline. You will find the employers who could hire our graduates and invest in our work, open the first conversation, and book meetings for our Strategic Accounts team to take forward.

Employers hire our graduates free of charge. We generate income through social value packages, and we are starting to build employer-embedded cohorts, where one employer commits to hiring at least 50% of a cohort. Your outreach feeds into all of this.

You will also help us grow into new places. That means scoping regions where we don't yet have employer partners: working out which employers, sectors and local partners could make a new bootcamp succeed.

No two weeks will look the same. You might be researching a new region on Monday, cold calling on Tuesday and running an employer event on Thursday, and priorities can shift quickly as we grow. It suits someone who juggles happily, adapts fast and comes up with fresh ways to get an employer's attention.

We believe in growing talent from within. For the right person, this role is a route towards becoming a Strategic Accounts Manager.

What success looks like

In your first year, success means a steady flow of qualified meetings for the team and a clear picture of where we should grow next. Our Strategic Accounts team will have a clear, up-to-date view of market trends and a working process for targeting organisations committed to inclusive hiring and social value, informed by your research.

Measure of success:

  • Qualified employer meetings booked for Strategic Accounts Managers
  • New relevant employer contacts added to the CRM
  • Meetings that convert into signed partners
  • New regions scoped, with a recommendation on whether to launch
  • Research and map recruitment and hiring trends across the sectors we train for, keeping this insight up to date as the market shifts.
  • Self-apply job opportunities sourced for learners
  • Employer events run

ABOUT GENERATION

Talent is everywhere; opportunity is not. Generation UK is a charity that supports people facing barriers to employment into life-changing careers they could not otherwise reach.

We run free, full-time, profession-specific bootcamps lasting one to three months in growing sectors such as tech, healthcare and the green economy. Some we deliver directly; others we co-deliver with partner organisations. Learners get wraparound one-to-one support throughout, and we keep supporting them in their job search for six months after they graduate. Many have been unemployed for a long time, are disabled, or come from low-income backgrounds.

Since launching in 2019, we have supported more than 4,000 people in the UK. We are part of a global Generation network that has supported over 100,000 people.

None of this works without employers. Every graduate needs an employer ready to give them a chance, and every bootcamp needs partners who invest in our work. Finding those employers starts with you.

By joining Generation UK&I, you will become part of an organisation committed to social impact and determined to play its part in changing the system in this context. The work is fast-paced, exciting, and innovative.

Find out more at https://uk.generation.org/

And you can hear more about our impact from our learners and beneficiaries themselves https://www.youtube.com/@GenerationUK-I/videos

And you can also learn more about our culture, directly from our incredible people on our website:

Generation acknowledges the duty of care to safeguard, protect, and promote the welfare of staff and learners and is committed to ensuring safeguarding practice reflects statutory responsibilities, and government guidance and complies with best practice.  We carry out employment and right-to-work checks, and request a declaration of any criminal convictions from all staff as part of our recruitment process.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Generate leads and book meetings (the core of the role)

  • Research employers in tech, healthcare, the green economy and other growing sectors, using tools such as TalentNeuron, Salesnavigator and LinkedIn.
  • Identify employers likely to buy social value packages, such as suppliers to public-sector contracts or companies with strong ESG commitments.
  • Reach out by email, LinkedIn and in person, and book qualified meetings for our Strategic Accounts team.
  • Hit weekly and monthly outreach and meeting targets, and keep trying new approaches when something isn't working.
  • Work with our B2B marketing team to build contact lists and campaigns for specific programmes.

2. Scope new regions and markets

  • Research and map recruitment and hiring trends across the sectors we train for, and keep this insight up to date as the market shifts.
  • Research regions where we don't yet have employer partners, covering the local labour market, growing sectors, major employers and hiring demand.
  • Identify organisations that are prioritising themes such as women in tech, diversity in hiring, social value commitments and support for people facing barriers to employment.
  • Map local partners who could open doors, such as combined authorities, councils, employer networks and colleges, as well as potential channel and co-delivery partners.
  • Make early contact with employers and partners to test their appetite, and turn your findings into a clear recommendation on whether and how we should launch in a new region.
  • Work with our Strategic Accounts Managers to build a simple, repeatable process for using this research to prioritise and target organisations aligned with our mission.

3. Run events and represent Generation

  • Plan and run virtual and in-person employer events with partners and learners that turn interest into meetings.
  • Attend networking events across the country, and bring back new contacts and leads.
  • Try creative ways to get in front of employers, such as new event formats, content or partnerships.

4. Keep our data sharp

  • Keep employer records in our CRM (Salesforce and Outreach) accurate, complete and up to date.
  • Find and fix data problems, such as duplicate accounts.
  • Help roll out new tools and processes that improve how we collect and report data.

5. Support the wider team

  • Source self-apply job opportunities for learners and share them through the right channels.
  • Marketing support, such as LinkedIn posts, and creating assets
  • Help coordinate projects outside day-to-day work, keeping timelines and deliverables on track.
  • Support the team with reports, scheduling and employer records.
  • Suggest and test improvements to how we find, onboard and manage employers.

Requirements

ABOUT YOU - What you bring

Essential

  • A genuine commitment to our mission. You want to work for a charity, and you can show it, through volunteering, previous roles, your own experience or the causes you support.
  • Outreach or lead generation experience. Around 1–2 years in a role where you contacted people who didn't know you and turned that into meetings or sales. This could be business development, recruitment, sales or fundraising. You can tell us your targets and how you did against them.
  • Confident conversation. You enjoy talking to people, including senior people, on Teams calls, at events and in person, and you can build rapport quickly.
  • Good research skills. You can quickly build a picture of a sector, a region or a company and pick out the opportunities.
  • Organised with data. You have used a CRM or similar system (e.g. Salesforce, HubSpot, an ATS or advanced Excel) and you keep records accurate.

A bonus, but not essential

  • Experience organising events.
  • Experience in a startup, charity or other fast-moving environment.
  • Knowledge of the employment and skills landscape, or of social value and CSR.

Attributes that will make you successful

  • Mission-driven. You care deeply about helping people facing barriers to employment into good careers, and that comes across when you talk to employers.
  • Creative. You think outside the box. When the usual route doesn't work, you find another, whether that's an unexpected partner, a new event idea or a different way to start a conversation.
  • Agile. You juggle several tasks at once, reprioritise without fuss when plans change, and still deliver.
  • Driven. You like having targets, and you set yourself goals without being chased.
  • Resilient. A "no" doesn't slow you down. You learn from it and make the next call.
  • Curious. You enjoy digging into new sectors and regions, and you ask good questions.
  • Organised. You keep track of a lot of moving parts and your records are always up to date.

Is this role for you?

You will probably love this role if:

  • You want to start or grow a career in business development at a charity, where your work changes people's lives.
  • You enjoy variety and like it when no two days are the same.
  • You get a buzz from finding a way in that nobody else thought of.

This role is probably not for you if:

  • You prefer a set routine and fixed priorities.
  • You would rather research than pick up the phone.
  • You want to work on one project at a time.

Our hiring process

We want to see how you work, not just hear about it. Our process has three stages:

  1. Application: CV submission & answer questions specific to the role and your interest in Generation
  2. Screening call
  3. Task & Interview/ Meet the team (in person)

We will send you everything you need to prepare beforehand.

Benefits

At Generation, we're changing the lives of many individuals, and that in itself gets us out of bed! Here are a few other benefits you'll experience working with the UK team:

  • Purpose and social impact in the heart of your work
  • Opportunity to make your mark - you'll have a lot of autonomy to bring the Generation blueprint to life in a way that makes sense for your region
  • Opportunity to get involved with a range of activities and varied projects - we're a small team, so there are lots of opportunities to get involved in projects across the whole organisation
  • We offer flexible and remote working to accommodate everyone's preferred working pattern/preferences and unique needs

A fair chance

Every role at Generation is open to applications from all sections of society. We believe in the potential of everyone; regardless of race, religion or belief, ethnic origin, different physical ability, family structure, socio-economics, age, nationality or citizenship, marital, domestic or civil partnership status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other aspect that makes you, well, you.

We believe that the more diverse we are the better we become. More than just encouraging your application, we're committed to conscious inclusion that (we hope) cultivates an ethos of belonging, connection and shared purpose. We go further together. It’s this philosophy that drives us towards our mission. We open our doors to those who share this mindset.

We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates from marginalised groups. We will assess applications on a rolling basis and close this posting as soon as we have found the right candidate. We look forward to hearing from you.
