Smith College is seeking an Accessibility Transportation Coordinator to help provide safe, reliable, and responsive transportation services that support access across our campus community. With students as a significant focus, this role combines day-to-day transportation coordination, thoughtful problem-solving, and direct service to help ensure community members with accessibility needs can navigate campus and participate fully in campus life. It’s an opportunity to manage important logistics while seeing the direct impact of your work every day.

Job Summary

The Accessibility Transportation Coordinator administers and coordinates the College's accessible transportation program, ensuring students, employees, and guests with approved accommodations have equitable access to campus facilities, programs, services, housing, and employment. The position exercises independent judgment in coordinating transportation resources, managing daily operations of the program, resolving service issues, and ensuring compliance with accessibility requirements.

The coordinator serves as a primary liaison among the Accessibility Resource Center (ARC), Human Resources, Campus Safety, students, employees, and other campus partners regarding accessible transportation services. The position also supervises student employees assigned to the program and is responsible for the day-to-day administration of transportation services.


Take appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participate in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.

Essential Functions

Program Administration & Coordination

  • Coordinate and administer the College's accessible transportation program.

  • Develop, implement, and monitor transportation schedules to meet accommodation-related needs.

  • Assess service demands and make independent decisions regarding route assignments, scheduling priorities, and operational adjustments.

  • Evaluate program effectiveness and recommend improvements to enhance service delivery.

  • Maintain records, reports, and operational data related to transportation services.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable accessibility requirements, institutional policies, and operational procedures.

  • Participate in planning and implementation of transportation-related accessibility initiatives.

Supervision & Student Employee Management

  • Recruit, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate student employees assigned to accessible transportation services.

  • Provide ongoing coaching, direction, and performance feedback.

  • Assign and monitor work and ensure service standards are maintained.

  • Participate in hiring recommendations and corrective action discussions involving student employees as appropriate.

  • Ensure student employees complete required training and certifications.

Accessibility Support & Campus Collaboration

  • Serve as a primary point of contact regarding accessible transportation services.
  • Collaborate with ARC, Human Resources, Campus Safety, Residence Life, and other departments to support accommodation-related transportation needs.

  • Exercise discretion and judgment in addressing transportation concerns, service requests, and operational challenges.

  • Maintain confidentiality regarding accommodation and disability-related information.

  • Provide information and guidance regarding transportation services and referral processes.

Transportation Operations

  • Operate accessible transportation vehicles as needed to ensure continuity of service.

  • Assist passengers with boarding, securement of mobility devices, and transportation support.

  • Monitor vehicle utilization and service effectiveness.

  • Coordinate service coverage during peak periods, absences, and special events.

Vehicle, Equipment & Compliance Management

  • Oversee vehicle inspections, maintenance scheduling, and operational readiness.

  • Ensure accessibility equipment is properly maintained and functioning.

  • Review incident reports and coordinate appropriate follow-up actions.

  • Maintain required operational documentation and records.

MINIMUM REQUIRED Qualifications (education, experience, certifications, licenses, knowledge, skills)

Associate's Degree and 1-5 years' experience in transportation coordination, accessibility services, customer service operations, program administration, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

  • Experience coordinating schedules, services, programs, or operational activities.

  • Experience exercising independent judgment and problem-solving in a customer service or administrative environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidential information.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and scheduling or database systems.

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Knowledge of accessibility principles, customer service practices, and transportation safety standards.

  • Ability to exercise discretion, sound judgment, and independent decision-making.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively to changing operational needs.

  • Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse constituents.

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to prepare reports and maintain accurate records.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and with varying accommodation needs.

Compensation

In addition to a competitive benefits package, pay for this role is typically between $24.02 - $29.35 hourly covering the middle half of market compensation. Actual compensation will vary based on individual qualifications.
