We are looking for an exceptional Research Intern who can help us solve hard problems.

ESI's Research Interns are part of a highly motivated, multi-disciplinary team of engineers and scientists for 9 months and are focused on developing cutting edge technology in a fast paced and friendly environment. They are original thinkers, creative dreamers, and people with a passion to make things happen. ESI's interns rapidly grow in the profession as they help design, develop, and troubleshoot ESI's technology solutions which are making a difference in the way that people work, learn, play, communicate, and live.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Working with the research team to address tough physics and engineering problems
• Understand the scope of the problem at hand, search the literature, and implement findings
• Design, model, and tests solutions

What you will bring to the team, along with your Enthusiasm to learn new things:

• A background in physics, optics, chemistry, or materials science with a good understanding of mathematical methods
• A creative, multi-disciplinary approach to challenging problems
• The ability for self-motived, independent work, as well as for collaboration
• A curious mind that will ask questions and contribute to discussions of other research projects

Compensation and Benefits:

Hourly Pay Range: $37.00 per hour. This range is a good faith estimate of the expected salary range for this position, based on a wide range of factors including qualifications, experience and training, operational and business needs and other considerations permitted by law. At MKS, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role.  

Benefits: MKS offers a benefits package for interns/co-ops working at least 20 hours per week, including 11 paid holidays, sick time, and 15 paid vacation days accrued on a biweekly basis. 

The application period for the intern/co-op position is estimated to be through the end of November 2026; however, this may be shortened or extended depending on business needs and the availability of qualified candidates.
