We are looking for a Staff Data Scientist to join Wolt’s mission in Finland, Sweden, or Germany!
About the role
The Selection Analytics Team at Wolt owns the data and infrastructure that helps all 32 of our country teams build a portfolio of high-quality restaurant and retail stores. Our overarching mission is to provide customers with the best selection by enabling sales teams across all markets to acquire the best merchants.
To do this, we work directly with country sales teams to help them identify and prioritize the highest potential merchant candidates. We also work with Wolt leadership by providing metrics to track selection quality, upon which they develop strategic initiatives and goals. This is a lean and mighty team that owns and operates the engine for merchant acquisition globally.
What you'll be doing
As a senior member of the Selection Analytics team, your role involves leveling up our approach to identifying and prioritizing better merchants. You’ll achieve this by:
Developing and deploying production-level ML models
Crafting metrics to unlock deeper insights into merchant selection quality for all markets
Conducting experiments to understand the impact of selection on specific markets
Work on self-serve tooling to track these insights.
This is also a rare, high-exposure experience where you will then use your findings to work directly with country leadership to help them uncover growth opportunities. When you join this team, you will be driving action from the frontlines, rather than just crunching numbers and creating dashboards.
Our humble expectations
5+ years of experience in data science, consulting, or a related quantitative role
Fluent in Python & SQL
Strong exploratory data analysis skills, willingness to look under the hood
Exposure to experimental design (A/B testing) and key statistical methods
Experience in feature engineering, model design, evaluation, diagnostics, and monitoring
Knowledge of MLOps concepts and tools (e.g. MLflow, Flyte)
Determination to initiate and lead/own strategic projects to completion with a cross-functional team
Innate curiosity to understand how things work and a first-principles approach to problem solving

The Courier Analytics Team at Wolt focuses on solving complex delivery-related logistical and operational challenges, and our objective is to improve Wolt’s logistics efficiency while delivering an exceptional delivery experience for all parties in our 3-sided marketplace.
Data Scientists at Wolt work to uncover insights and turn them into relevant recommendations, driving decisions for the entire organisation. On the Courier team, we are particularly focused on optimising routing and task assignment efficiency, predicting delivery times with higher accuracy, and aiming for a flawless delivery experience for both our couriers and customers to boost retention.
We achieve this by ensuring Courier Group’s product development is rooted in experimentation with the primary goal of delivering impactful results rather than sole features. By analytical deep-dives, impact estimation, and delving deep into observational data to expose hidden trends and untapped opportunities, our Data Scientists serve as objective advisors, helping to decipher the 'why' behind the data, thereby enabling smarter decisions that align with our overall business strategy.
What you’ll be doing
Take Ownership: Drive the Logistics analytics topics within Courier Analytics, becoming the go-to expert in this critical area.
Drive Experiment-Guided Product Development: Serve as the catalyst for analytical deep-dives and controlled experiments that illuminate Wolt's complex marketplace dynamics and causal chains.
Champion Statistical Rigour and a Data-Driven Mindset: Serve as an internal advocate for the crucial role of statistical rigour in data analysis. Your advocacy will foster a culture where data isn't just used, but used wisely, reinforcing the integrity of our decision-making processes.
Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Product, Design, Engineering, and Operations, to integrate data-driven decision-making into their workflows.

Proficiency in SQL and Python/R, and AI IDE tools
Hands-on experience in designing and analysing A/B testing, coupled with knowledge of quasi-experimental methodologies
A strong grasp of core concepts and models for causal inference, enabling you to expose complex cause-and-effect relationships within data
Prior experience building intuitive data visualizations and dashboards that influence business decisions, utilizing tools like Tableau, Mixpanel, Looker, or similar

The Consumer Pricing and Discounts Data Science team is committed to consumer-first pricing and discounts that are fair, transparent, and compliant. We create innovative pricing & discounts solutions that offer clear value for our consumers with a focus on affordability. We collaborate cross-functionally to achieve both short-term and long-term business goals, balancing topline impact with bottom-line profitability tradeoff.
