Senior Compensation Analyst
Location: Indianapolis, IN (Hybrid – 2 days/week at WTHR office)
Reports to: Director, HR Operations & Technology

TEGNA is looking for a Senior Compensation Analyst who can do more than run numbers—you’ll help shape how we pay, reward, and retain talent across the organization. This role sits at the intersection of compensation strategy, analytics, and HR technology, and plays a key part in driving smarter, data-informed decisions.

You’ll partner closely with HR, Finance, and business leaders to design, analyze, and improve compensation programs that are competitive, scalable, and aligned to business outcomes. If you like digging into data, challenging assumptions, and actually influencing decisions (not just reporting on them), this is your lane.

What you’ll do

• Lead administration and analysis of base pay, annual incentive, and equity programs
• Evaluate and price jobs using market data and internal benchmarks; provide clear, actionable recommendations
• Own and evolve our equity program, including award modeling, administration, communications, and vendor management
• Manage salary surveys and translate market data into insights on pay positioning and competitiveness
• Build and deliver compensation analyses, dashboards, and reporting to support leadership decision-making
• Enhance and maintain compensation and HR dashboards in Power BI
• Partner with HRBPs and leaders to solve real business problems—not just answer comp questions
• Improve processes, simplify workflows, and find ways to make compensation operations more efficient and scalable
• Stay current on compensation trends, regulations, and best practices—and apply them pragmatically
• Collaborate across Payroll, Benefits, Finance, Legal, IT, and TA Operations on cross-functional initiatives

What you bring

• 5–8 years of experience in compensation, HR analytics, or related field
• Strong analytical mindset—you’re comfortable with data, but more importantly, you know what matters
• Advanced Excel skills (if you love messy datasets, even better)
• Experience with HR systems and reporting tools (UKG, Cognos, or similar)
• Power BI experience preferred
• Working knowledge of compensation-related regulations (FLSA, pay equity, etc.)
• Ability to operate independently, prioritize effectively, and move work forward without hand-holding
• Strong communication skills—you can translate complex analysis into clear business recommendations
• Curiosity and a bias for improving how things work

The HRBP must be results-oriented and partnership focused, with an approach that is responsive to and aligned with business strategies. Selected candidates will be instrumental in facilitating a high- performance workplace. This is a hybrid position requiring 3 days in the station. Moderate travel will be required to support additional client groups.

Responsibilities:
• Partner with leadership teams on organization and culture change, transformation initiatives, succession planning
• Provide guidance and coaching to managers and employees on employee engagement, performance management, career development, talent assessment, training, acquisition and retention, and workplace investigations as appropriate
• Work collaboratively with Human Resources colleagues on special projects and initiatives and best practice sharing

• Understand and adhere to local, state and federal laws regarding employment, wage and hour, OSHA and related laws

Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree with a concentration in Human Resources or related degree. Master's degree or HR certification is preferred.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of HR generalist/HRBP experience is required
• A working knowledge of employment laws and multi-level recruitment experience
• Proficient knowledge/ability with all Microsoft Office Applications and using social media applications in recruiting
• Record of success advising managers on the full range of HR/people issues
• Demonstrate professional presentation and conflict resolution skills
• Demonstrated ability to quickly establish effective relationships, collaborate, lead and influence
• Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and deliver results for multiple stakeholders
• Strong ethical standards and integrity
• Union environment and negotiation experience a plus

TEGNA Inc. is seeking a Payroll Processor to support day-to-day payroll operations for 5,500+ U.S.-based employees. This role is part of our Corporate HR Operations & Technology team and is based at WTHR in Indianapolis. This a hybrid role with 2 days of in-office requirement. 
The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience processing payroll in UKG Pro and UKG Pro Workforce Management (WFM), with strong attention to detail, a compliance mindset, and a focus on accuracy and efficiency.

Responsibilities:

• Process multi-state, biweekly payroll accurately and on schedule using UKG Pro and UKG Pro WFM.
• Review and audit payroll data including timecards, earnings, deductions, and taxes to ensure compliance and accuracy.
• Research and resolve payroll discrepancies, employee inquiries, and system issues in a timely manner.
• Support payroll imports, adjustments, off-cycle payments, and retroactive transactions.
• Assist with payroll reconciliations, reporting, and documentation to maintain SOX controls and audit readiness.
• Partner with HR, Finance, and managers to ensure accurate employee data and pay outcomes.
• Support year-end activities including W-2 validation and distribution.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, reduce manual work, and strengthen payroll controls.
