Description
Reusable launch systems are the key to seamlessly connecting Earth and space. An instrumental ingredient to making reusable launch vehicles is the ability to move fast. That is our goal for Boltline by Stoke Space, our commercial software platform that helps advanced hardware manufacturing teams integrate, track, iterate, build, and test efficiently.
As a Senior AI Engineer on the Boltline team, you will design, build, and deploy intelligent systems that augment our platform's capabilities—from agentic workflows that automate complex manufacturing processes to RAG pipelines that surface critical institutional knowledge. You'll architect evaluation frameworks to ensure AI reliability, build developer tooling that empowers the team, and integrate LLMs into production systems that accelerate hardware development. The ideal candidate demonstrates deep expertise in applied AI/ML, a high degree of ownership, and curiosity—balancing fast execution with robust, production-grade engineering.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement agentic systems and workflows that automate complex, multi-step manufacturing and engineering processes
- Build and maintain RAG pipelines leveraging vector databases to enable intelligent search and retrieval
- Develop comprehensive evaluation frameworks (evals) to measure, monitor, and improve AI system performance, accuracy, and reliability
- Create developer tooling, SDKs, and internal platforms that accelerate AI adoption across the engineering organization
- Integrate LLM APIs and orchestration frameworks into production applications
- Design end-to-end features across the stack using React, TypeScript, GraphQL, and Postgres
- Lead technical design discussions and contribute to architectural decisions for AI-powered features
- Partner with product and hardware teams to identify high-impact opportunities for AI augmentation
- Mentor engineers on AI/ML best practices through code reviews, pairing, and design collaboration
- Participate in Boltline Operational Excellence including participating in on-call rotation and other operational activities
Qualifications
- 1-5 years of professional software development experience
- Hands-on experience building agentic systems, autonomous workflows, or AI-powered automation
- Experience building RAG architectures, integrating vector databases, and deploying semantic search implementations
- Experience designing and implementing evaluation frameworks for LLM-based systems
- Proficiency with full-stack development: TypeScript, React, GraphQL, and relational databases
- Familiarity with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.) and orchestration frameworks
- Proven ability to own features from concept through deployment and iteration
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills within cross-functional teams
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, evolving environment with a focus on delivering impact
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in computer science or related field/experience
- Experience with prompt/context engineering and fine-tuning
- Background in building developer tools, CLIs, or internal platforms
- Familiarity with Next.js, Apollo (Client/Server), Hasura, or similar
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes/ECS, and AWS infrastructure
- Familiarity with event-driven architectures using Temporal, Kafka, or similar
- Hands-on experience with observability and monitoring for AI systems
- Exposure to manufacturing, aerospace, or complex physical systems
- Interest in aerospace/manufacturing workflows

Compensation
Target Levels:
- Level 3 Range: $154,350 - $231,525
- Level 4 Range: $192,885 - $289,380
- Level 5 Range: $231,525 - $347,235

Boltline is a cloud-based platform built for complex hardware engineering and manufacturing. Designed by rocket scientists, it helps teams move fast with real-time inventory tracking, parts and process traceability, automated workflows, and seamless collaboration. Purpose-built for dynamic environments, Boltline supports everything from prototyping to production, all while staying ITAR compliant and fully integrated.
Responsibilities
Boltline team is all-in to help our customers build amazing hardware. Our Software Sales Engineer will develop new sales opportunities with the team’s support.
- Provide consultative, technical sales expertise to prospective Boltline buyers, that creates confidence for Boltline Customers
- Qualify leads based on industry, hardware development scenarios, and organizational culture (not everyone should be a Boltline buyer, and that’s ok)
- Own and elevate the end-to-end demo experience, refining existing materials to captivate prospects from first touch to trial, tailored for global hardware innovators
- Represent Stoke’s own hardware development methodologies, practices, and milestones to help customer adoption
- Track sales blockers, software roadmap priorities, feature requests, and competitive tools
- Maintain trusted advisor continuity with customers throughout contract agreements
- Drive new customer acquisition and sales of new Boltline modules to existing customers, collaborating with CSMs to ensure seamless transitions while focusing on winning new deals
Qualifications
Heads up – this job needs you to love hardware! Ideally, you’ve been involved in the development, rollout, or sales of new hardware or related technologies.
- 4-8 years professional background working with complex hardware such as introducing new mechanical, electronic, scientific, or related software products
- 3+ years of B2B commercial team experience driving sales of advanced technology solutions: 6 or 7 figure annual deals
- History of winning contracts with engineering and manufacturing decisionmakers
- Thorough understanding of startups, small and midsize businesses (2-2000 employees) and their organizational traits that encourage (or discourage) change
- Experience as a customer, vendor, consultant, or implementer for one or more of: CAD, PLM, MES, ERP, and/or SCM systems (with your interest in killing the three letter acronyms!)
- Preferred industry experience includes Aerospace, Defense, Climate Tech, AEC, Energy, Robotics, or other hardware-centric markets that require constant learning
- Skill to communicate with a range of audiences, from groups of engineering students through founders of new space companies in the US, EU, and Japan
- Ability to travel up to 30% per year
Preferred Qualifications
Our customers want our perspective and often our provocation. The ideal Sales Engineer is a change agent with our customers and partners, helping them self-deploy Boltline.
- 5+ years of experience in sales, marketing, and/or business development
- BS or MS with an engineering, manufacturing, or operational concentration
- Project management experience, background with Atlassian tools, Trello, Office or other general-purpose software (and you know the good and the bad)
- A network within innovative engineering communities, social channels, previous customers or peers, connections to makers or inventors
- Shop floor experience, familiarity with machine tools, additive manufacturing, and/or work centers and procedures in the US or Europe
- Understanding of dual-use technologies and relevant standards (e.g. ITAR controls)
