We're looking for a Contract Technical Program Manager to support our Product, Data Science & Analytics (DSA), and Engineering organizations during a high-activity period.

This is a hands-on execution role. You'll partner with established leaders and cross-functional teams to keep programs moving, surface operational gaps, and help build lightweight systems that improve how we work.

What You Will Do

Define and Lead Organization-Wide Programs

Program Execution & Coordination

• Manage day-to-day execution of cross-functional programs across Product, DSA, and Engineering
• Track milestones, dependencies, and risks; flag issues early and drive them to resolution
• Support recurring operational forums (data reviews, product reviews) — prep materials, capture decisions, and follow up on action items

Data & Metrics Support

• Partner with Data Engineering and Analytics teams to support data quality tracking and dashboard maintenance
• Help document ownership and standards for key metrics and reporting workflows
• Assist in monitoring ETL pipeline health and escalating issues appropriately

Operational Improvements

• Identify friction points in existing workflows and propose practical, low-overhead fixes
• Help build or refine playbooks, intake processes, and coordination mechanisms
• Support rollout and adoption of new processes across teams

Stakeholder Communication

• Prepare clear status updates and program summaries for senior stakeholders
• Facilitate alignment meetings and ensure follow-through on decisions

• 4–7 years of experience in Technical Program Management, Product Operations, or a related role
• Solid understanding of data systems, analytics workflows, or instrumentation (you don't need to be an engineer, but you need to speak the language)

• Develop and validate comprehensive ground truth datasets for harmful UGC and violative on-platform behaviors, ensuring high quality and alignment with the latest platform policies.
• Deepen our understanding of violations by conducting exploratory analysis on current and emerging threat landscapes, providing data-backed recommendations on where Product and Engineering should strategically invest detection and moderation resources.
• Design, implement, and analyze sophisticated experiments for new moderation and safety enforcement features, communicating results to our primary partners in Product and Engineering to guide development, while also collaborating closely with Policy, Compliance, and Legal teams for full strategic alignment.
• Leverage advanced causal inference methodologies to accurately measure the effectiveness and potential systemic impacts of various safety initiatives on player experience and platform integrity.

• 10+ years of industry experience in data science, economics, analytics, or machine learning engineering
• 7+ years of experience using scripting languages (Python, R), and big data query/processing languages and tools such as SQL, Hive, Spark, and Airflow

Engine Systems team builds the foundational systems for networking, servers, asset loading, and data management, all working in harmony to deliver stable and engaging experiences.

This role will focus on the System foundation that provides low level technology to enable efficient development of Roblox itself and the games within it. We build profiling support, concurrency, memory management, scalability systems, and crash reporting. We manage the user experience in real-time and monitors device constraints (like a low-end phone vs. a high-end PC) and adjust graphics and performance on the fly.

You Will:

• Define Reliability & Stability Metrics – Work on system metrics telemetry logging and validation. Establish key performance indicators for Engine systems such as crash rates, runtime error codes, and quality metrics that directly impact creators and players.

WHY DISCOVERY EXPERIENCES?

We're seeking senior data scientists with expertise in machine learning to join our Discovery Experience team. As IC leaders (individual contributors with a large span of influence), you'll drive strategic decisions for user growth and product innovation, leveraging all data science toolkits (analytics, experimentation, forecasting, and ML solutions) to improve end-to-end consumer journeys on Roblox. The roles will primarily focus on Discovery Experiences. Discovery surfaces (i.e. home, search, matchmaking, notifications) are critical to fostering engagement and long-term relationships with our platform. The complex network of our two-sided marketplace, combined with the ever-evolving metaverse, presents exciting challenges.

This role will report directly into the Senior Director of Data Science (Consumer) and will be based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA (hybrid, onsite days Tues-Thurs).

You Will:

• Develop foundational solutions to scale the hypothesis generation process across key user engagement touchpoints.
• Contribute directly to the development of ML solutions that power our discovery canvases alongside our sister engineering teams.
• Partner closely with Product and engineering leaders to inform, drive and accelerate innovations in discovery experiences via Insights, frameworks, causal inference solutions and machine learning prototypes.
• Leverage advanced causal inference methodologies to measure the effectiveness of various initiatives, ranging from Roblox events to social features susceptible to network effects.
• Conduct exploratory analysis to identify and advise XFN partners on opportunities for strategic investments.
• Design and implement experiments for new features and communicate results succinctly to non-technical audiences.

You Have:

• Advanced Degree and/or PhD in Statistics, Computer Science, Physics, Applied Math, Economics, or other related quantitative fields
• 10+ years of industry experience in data science, economics, analytics, or machine learning engineering
• 7+ years of experience using scripting languages (Python, R), and big data query/processing languages and tools such as SQL, Hive, Spark, and Airflow
• Knowledge of ML and Deep Learning either via formal training or industry experience
• Ability to apply creative first-principles reasoning to solve ambiguous problems
• Experience developing large-scale recommendation systems as well as experience with content platforms, specifically user-generated content

As a Senior Data Scientist, you will play a critical role in a key area within our Foundation AI team:

• Engineering Efficiency and Code Intelligence: Building the metrics, analytics, experimentation foundation, and AI workflow that powers how Roblox engineers and creators build and ship with AI and intelligent code systems.

Whether you are focused on the end-user experience or the developer ecosystem, you will define how we measure safety, responsibility, quality, and efficiency. You will combine annotation analysis, design of experiments, causal inference, model-based evaluation methods (such as LLM-as-a-judge), optimization algorithm, and AI models to drive product decisions and model improvements.

You Will:

• Develop Evaluation Frameworks: Design and operationalize rigorous evaluation systems for either GenAI features (text, image, video, 3D, 4D) or internal AI Agents (Code Review, Refactor, Test Gen). This includes eval experiment design, dataset design, label reliability analysis, and implementing and finetuning LLM-as-judge methods.
• Run Rigorous Experiments: Conduct online experiments (A/B tests) and causal inference to quantify the impact of GenAI features or AI-assisted coding tools. You will identify opportunities, measure lift, and ensure statistical rigor.
• Define Success Metrics: Partner with cross-functional teams to define leading/lagging indicators—whether for GenAI safety and user satisfaction, or for engineering productivity and code health.
• Build Automated Systems: Research and apply state-of-the-art methodologies to build reproducible evaluation tooling and agentic workflows that lift rigor and efficiency across the company.
• Drive Strategy & Visibility: Develop dashboards and reporting frameworks that reveal trends (e.g., model performance or developer friction) and translate complex data into clear, prioritized recommendations for leadership.

You Have:

• Advanced Degree: PhD or Master’s in Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, Applied Math, Physics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
• Experience: 5+ years of experience in data science, analytics, or a quantitative role.
• Technical Proficiency: Strong proficiency in SQL (Hive/Spark) for manipulating large datasets and scripting languages (Python or R) for analysis and modeling.
• Experimentation and Causal Inference: A solid grounding in experimentation, causal inference, and statistical analysis, including test design and metric design for feature impact.
• Problem Solving: A demonstrated track record of framing ambiguous problems, designing analytical approaches, and solving open-ended data science problems that drive business impact.
• Learning Agility: Ability to effectively and responsibly use AI tools to enhance productivity and a passion for continuously improving methods in a fast-evolving field.
• GenAI Familiarity: Familiarity with GenAI models and safety/quality evaluation methods. Expertise in the model training lifecycle is a plus (e.g., fine-tuning, RLHF, or synthetic data generation).
• Engineering Development Workflow: Experience with engineering development workflows and engineering efficiency data is a plus for the Engineering Efficiency and Code Intelligence role.
• Applied Research Background: A track record of applied research or publications in relevant technical fields is highly valued.

WHY ALT DETECTION?

Our Alt Detection system at Roblox is a frontier challenge in large-scale identity modeling, managing a massive multi-partite graph that currently includes approximately tens of billions of nodes and hundreds of billions of edges. In this role, you will apply your expertise in data science, statistics, and causal inference to strategically define, measure, and improve our alt detection systems. This is integrated deeply within various applications across the company. Within our Safety group, identity modeling is critical to mitigate alternate accounts used by adversarial actors to bypass our safety enforcements. Beyond safety, your work will be critical to systemic growth, used for core growth reporting and understanding true market penetration, in addition to establishing fair creator incentives. And more opportunities to expand this system across safety and non-safety use cases. This is an opportunity to build state-of-the-art detection systems that fuel our safety efforts while directly catalyzing our company’s most important growth levers. 

You Will: 

• Develop ground truth evaluation strategies by integrating diverse signals, ranging from "gold standard" manual labels to automated weak supervision frameworks.
• Calibrate score thresholds across applications, balancing high-precision enforcement needs with high-recall required for growth reporting
• Partner with MLE to identify and validate new behavioral, network, and biometric signals to expand detection coverage.
• Collaborate with Engineering to design modular systems capable of processing billions of candidate pairs and supporting high-concurrency graph traversals.
• Lead the cross-functional integration of identity models into Discovery, Ads, and Creator Success to eliminate fraud and improve the fidelity of platform metrics.
• Conduct strategic research to decode the incentives behind alt creation and develop sophisticated classification taxonomies to guide mitigation strategies.
• Communicate strategic insights and present recommendations to leadership and all cross-functional partners, translating complex statistical findings on prevalence, ground truth quality, and effectiveness into actionable strategies for Product, Engineering, Policy, Compliance, and Legal.
• Partner with ML and Data Engineering teams to ensure model development, reporting, and detection systems are built on statistically sound ground truth and measurement frameworks.

You Have:

• 8+ years of industry experience in data science, economics, analytics, or machine learning engineering
• 6+ years of experience using scripting languages (Python, R), and big data query/processing languages and tools such as SQL, Hive, Spark, and Airflow
• Knowledge of ML and Deep Learning either via formal training or industry experience
• Ability to apply creative first-principles reasoning to solve ambiguous problems
• Experience developing large-scale safety or moderation systems as well as experience with content platforms, specifically user-generated content
• Advanced Degree and/or PhD in Statistics, Computer Science, Physics, Applied Math, Economics, or other related quantitative fields

As a Senior Data Scientist focused on Machine Intelligence, you will bridge the gap between high-tier engineering infrastructure and cutting-edge ML applications. You will be the primary strategic partner to product and engineering leadership, transforming unstructured data into actionable business insights and user-facing products.

This is a "zero-to-one" environment. You will be tasked with creating standards for entirely new data formats and building the analytical frameworks that define how machine learning drives creator success and platform sustainability.

You Will: 

• Lead ML-Driven Transformation: Act as the lead data partner to engineering and product leadership, shaping roadmaps for ML products by translating technical approaches into interpretable, movable metrics.
• Model Unstructured Data: Develop sophisticated ML models for unstructured data—including text, images, and video—to improve product measurement and external user experiences.
• Own data workflows end-to-end: Drive work from ideation through data collection, pipeline development, and modeling, to produce outputs that inform leadership decisionmaking.
• Design Causal Frameworks: Design complex experiments to quantify the impact of foundational service updates and AI-driven features on the broader Roblox ecosystem.
• Translate Technical Wins into Business Value: Bridge the gap between deep-tier engineering metrics and high-level business impact. Own the narrative that helps stakeholders understand how service improvement drives creator success and platform sustainability.

You Have:

• Advanced Academic Background: A BS, MSc, or PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Math, or a related quantitative field.
• ML Expertise: Proven experience in ML modeling on unstructured data (text, images, video) and the ability to turn these models into useful data products.
• Strategic Influence: A demonstrated ability to influence senior leaders through clear narratives and decision memos on complex technical topics.
• Comfort with Ambiguity: Experience in environments where no standard data formats exist
• NLP Knowledge: Familiarity with measuring translation quality and assessing feedback loops.
• Technical Mastery: Expert-level knowledge of statistics, A/B testing, and causal inference in complex, mediated settings
• Engineering Fluency: The ability to grasp complex system architectures, data flows, and high-throughput schemas.
