We are looking to hire an ASIC Physical Design Engineer to help us design, test and deploy advanced hardware. As part of our Ultra Low Latency team, you'll have the opportunity to collaborate with people in areas across the firm, including trading, networking and research infrastructure.
This isn't a traditional PD role. We're a small team where everyone works across the chip design process, and we expect our PD engineers to lead with physical design expertise but think like chip designers. You should be comfortable owning a PD flow end-to-end, but also able to read and write RTL and reason about design decisions that cross the front-end/back-end boundary.
If you've spent your career exclusively in PD, this probably isn't the right fit—but if you've worked across the stack, either because you started as an RTL designer and moved into PD, or because you were on a smaller team where you had to wear multiple hats, we'd love to talk.

Jane Street's Compilers team focuses on improving OCaml as a foundation for Jane Street's ever-growing technology stack, in collaboration with the greater OCaml community. We work on many different aspects of the compiler, aiming to make it easier for developers to express their ideas in OCaml, to improve the performance of the generated code, and to make the OCaml compiler itself faster and easier to use.
Over the years, we extended the type system with support for novel language features, re-engineered the optimizer ground-up, and added feedback-directed optimization. We also extend and enhance the surrounding toolchain, working on tools for profiling, debugging, documenting, and building automation. The vast majority of our work is open-source, and we upstream as much as we can to the mainstream OCaml compiler.

During the internship, you will work in collaboration with your mentors on one project for about 10-12 weeks. On any given day, you could be debugging kernel performance, developing management tools, or resolving production issues in real time. Diving into tricky systems problems is our specialty.
Deployment automation, scalable configuration management, and obsessive monitoring are the focus of some of our ongoing projects. We automate as much of our work as we can, but not because we’re lazy. We find that automation reduces our error rate and overall workload - plus, we think it's fun.
Working in our group provides opportunities for involvement with almost every other facet of the company. We work directly with colleagues in trading, technology, and operations to build and maintain systems with a firm-wide scope. Using feedback from other groups and our custom monitoring tools, we strive to resolve production issues quickly, perform comprehensive root-cause analyses, and integrate long-term fixes in a clean and robust way.
We don't expect you to come in with deep experience - we're happy to hire smart problem solvers and teach them what they need to know. You’ll train alongside our more seasoned team members in a hands-on capacity, learning how we make tangible and immediate improvements to our infrastructure every day.

About the position
We’re looking for smart and curious individuals from industry and academia to join our growing team and drive our ML work.
On our Machine Learning team, you'll build the deep learning models that power our trading strategies, supported by our rapidly growing computing cluster with tens of thousands of high-end GPUs. Trading poses unusual challenges— large models and nonstationary datasets in a competitive multi-agent environment—that force us to search for novel techniques.
Researchers, engineers and traders sit a few feet away from each other and work together to train models, architect systems and run trading strategies. Depending on the day, we might be diving deep into market data, tuning hyperparameters, debugging distributed training performance or studying how our model likes to trade in production.
We’ll rely on your in-depth knowledge of the machine learning landscape and understanding of a variety of approaches—drawn from LLMs, image models, RL agents, recommendation systems or classical ML methods—to shape the future of ML at Jane Street. You’ll train models for the next generation of our deep learning-based trading strategies, and build the fundamental understanding we need to tackle new markets and situations. You’ll also be hiring new colleagues, attending conferences and teaching techniques to teammates—all of which we consider to be real and impactful parts of the job.

You will play a key role in engineering, managing and maintaining a growing fleet of thousands of iOS and Android devices and ensuring seamless connectivity to essential apps and services that support our business needs.
In this position, you’ll focus on improving, automating and standardising our fleet of corporately owned and BYOD-managed devices and its supporting infrastructure. This will involve developing and maintaining PowerShell scripts, optimising MDM systems and collaborating globally to resolve issues, deploy updates and enhance systems in this growing and fast-moving domain. You will also develop new solutions for business problems and architect integrations to meet the requirements of a variety of stakeholders.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills will be needed as you collaborate with colleagues across the firm globally to find and resolve issues, plan and execute deployments and improve systems where possible.
Getting the details right and keeping good records are critical in this role. Good troubleshooting skills are essential and you’ll be expected to clearly document problem resolution resulting from root cause analysis.
This role is part of our IT Engineering group, a dedicated team that architects and manages a global physical, virtual and mobile computing environment. Your analytical skills and expertise will directly support our colleagues and ensure the highest standard of system performance.
