The Role You’ll Play
As a Senior Android Engineer you'll be a key member of a cross-functional team focused on creating new features for the ClassPass mobile apps. You love to build robust and user friendly apps. You know how to separate concerns between the different layers of a mobile codebase, from the user interface components right down to the model layer. You know the best software is created through collaboration and iteration and you're looking for the right opportunity, and the right team, to expand your experience. You like to ship software early and often, you value simplicity and strive to eliminate unnecessary complexity.
Experience You Bring
- Collaborating closely with product & design, shipping early and often.
- Providing leadership and mentorship for junior engineers through thoughtful code reviews, pairing, and technical discussions.
- Seeking feedback because you know it has the ability to turn good work into great work.
- Writing clear and concise technical documents.
- Keeping up to date with the latest technologies and industry trends, and sharing them with the team.
- Track record of shipping successful Android apps to the Google Play Store.
- Proven analytical abilities and propensity for problem solving. Initiative to identify process and systems improvements and to take ownership of implementation.
- Bias for action, driving impact, and initiating ideas.
Technologies you could be working with
- Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and Android development.
- Experience working on a large modular codebase that was started a decade ago and needs to be well architected for the next decade of growth.
- Flutter experience is a plus, but not a requirement!

The base salary range for this position in the United States is $151,300 to $201,700. The total compensation package for this position may also include a performance bonus, benefits and/or other applicable incentive compensation plans

Your role:
As an Engineering Manager at ClassPass, you’ll lead a cross-functional team with strengths across mobile, backend, and platform, working together to drive expansion into new growth areas. This role sits at the intersection of product, data, and engineering, where experimentation and real user impact shape what gets built.
You’ll guide your team through complex technical challenges while setting a clear, long-term technical direction, balancing speed with sustainable architecture. It’s a highly collaborative environment where iteration is key, and your ability to partner closely with product and empower your team will directly influence both the user experience and business growth.

About the right team member:
You are an experienced engineer who has successfully transitioned into a people leader, passionate about creating impactful and high-quality mobile applications. You possess extensive experience in at least one aspect of developing a world-class mobile application and can effectively manage a high-performing team throughout the entire process.
You’ll thrive in this role with experience in:
- 3+ years of direct management experience with an engineering team of at least 6 members with skills across the stack
- Experience in delivering high-quality frontends and/or mobile applications.
- Established architecture and best practices for web or mobile applications and their backends.
- Proven ability to establish and articulate a vision, set goals, and execute effectively.

The Role You'll Play
- You’ll help build and evolve the backend systems that power ClassPass, partnering closely with Product, Design, and QA to take ideas from concept to production in a way that’s reliable, scalable, and grounded in real customer needs.
- Partner with Product, Design, and QA to deliver features from ideation through deployment, iterating based on feedback and outcomes
- Design and develop backend services and APIs that are robust, maintainable, and easy to work with
- Promote engineering excellence through automated testing, thoughtful code reviews, and effective monitoring
- Drive simplicity by reducing unnecessary complexity while maintaining reliability and quality
- Contribute to architecture decisions and help shape how microservices interact across a growing service-oriented ecosystem
- Strengthen operational health by identifying risks early and improving observability and resilience over time
- Lead with curiosity by seeking feedback, learning from diverse perspectives, and mentoring teammates

The Experience You’ll Bring
- Senior-level experience (8+ years) building and operating backend systems for large-scale SaaS platforms
- Proficiency in object-oriented languages such as Java, Kotlin, C#, and comfort working in a mixed stack
- Experience architecting and designing backend services in a microservices environment
- Familiarity with monitoring tools like New Relic or Kibana, and a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating system risks
- Solid understanding of SDLC, design patterns, and Agile methodologies
- Strong SQL and relational database skills, with attention to performance and maintainability
- Clear communicator who collaborates effectively across roles and working styles
- Motivation to deliver meaningful solutions, keep learning, and support others’ growth

The Role You’ll Play:
- Be a technical lead throughout the development lifecycle, from scoping, planning, conception, design, implementation, and testing, to documentation, delivery, and maintenance
- Develops software solutions by studying information needs, conferring with users, studying systems flow, data usage, and work processes, investigating problem areas, following the software development lifecycle
- Collaborates with Engineering Managers and Mobile Architects on engineering design and implementation
- Decomposes and delegate work to junior engineers
- Collaborates with backend engineers to efficiently build out new API for mobile apps
- Researches and promotes internal best practices and coding conventions to write and execute tests for your own code, including creating comprehensive automated tests
- Contributes to System Architecture documentation
- Develop shared tooling and SDKs for use by multiple teams across the company
- Takes an active interest in mobile application quality across all product lines
- Identifies and pragmatically addresses technical debt
- Requests constructive feedback for designs early in the process
- Communicates successfully across departments with large teams and many personalities
- Provides mentorship for Software Engineers and participates in interview panels to hire new Software Engineers
- Assists in removing obstacles for the team to yield successful sprints
- Monitors health of app releases and responds to any mobile escalations
- Performs peer code reviews to ensure quality of the codebase
- Occasional on-call duty rotation to respond to after-hours mobile incidents
- Updates job knowledge by studying state-of-the-art development tools, programming techniques, and computing equipment; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations
- Works effectively with multiple projects and departments
Experience You Bring:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent
- Expertise in the industry, with experience in developing mobile applications, web, and/or large-scale enterprise products
- Mobile Development Experience: Kotlin, Java, and Android Studio
- Strong knowledge of Material Design and Android Architecture components
- Experience with package management and app deployment pipelines
- Deep experience with standard mobile architectures (MVC, MVVM, MVP, etc)
- Expertise in building complex user interfaces
- Skillful at writing effective unit and behavioral tests
- Experience with testing frameworks such as junit, Espresso and/or Robolectric
- Experience with software development processes (Agile, Scrum, Kanban, etc)
- Familiar with git branching strategies and semantic versioning
- Knowledge of mobile continuous integration best practices and tooling
- Skillful at reviewing new feature impact on an application and recognizing potential risks

Experience You Bring
- You care about writing great code and solving the right problems. You’re energized by big-picture thinking and grounded in delivering value with clarity and care.
- Senior-level experience developing large-scale SaaS applications
- Proficiency with languages like Kotlin, Java, .NET, C#, Typescript, or Javascript
- Experience designing APIs and working with microservice architecture
- Familiarity with observability tools like New Relic or Kibana
- Deep understanding of SQL and relational databases
- An agile mindset and a strong grasp of software development lifecycle practices
- Ability to navigate complexity, assess tradeoffs, and execute with confidence
- Excellent communicator who brings others along and helps ideas stick
