Service Director, Japan

Position Summary

The Service Director will be responsible for maintaining positive customer relationships while providing highly valued services and support to ASM Japan customers. The Service Director will lead a team of service operations managers and field service engineers to provide world class customer service to ensure positive outcomes for ASM end users and technology buyers among Japan customer accounts. This position is relied upon by senior leaders and executive management stakeholders for delivering on both customer satisfaction initiatives and key business results.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Full accountability for service and spares P&L performance to meet annual operational plan
• Full accountability for meeting service operational KPI’s to meet annual operational plan
• Full accountability for workforce sizing to meet customer investment cycle and establishing workforce needs as part of annual operating plan setting.
• Responsible for contributing to the development and execution of strategic business initiatives to achieve revenue, margin, and market share growth within the service and spares business areas.
• Must be able to influence other senior leaders and executives through clear, concise, and cognitive communication with all relevant data

Education：

Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in an engineering field required; with an MBA being a plus. 

Required Experience & Expertise

• At least +15 years of experience in semiconductor industry supporting complex capital equipment and process technology support.
• +10 years in a leader/ people management role
• Extensive knowledge and experience with customer satisfaction, service & spares business, and or account management, preferably within the semiconductor industry.  
• Knowledge of Thin film / Metal / Diffusion deposition systems
• Good communication skill with customer R&D, Manufacturing with understanding of technology and the Products.
• Keep interest in new technology in semiconductor device manufacturing.
• Fluent in both Japanese and English
• Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills in a fast, ethical, and result-oriented environment.

Job's mission

As our Regional EHS Manager for Japan, you’ll be the driving force behind creating a safe, compliant, and proactive work environment across our local service operations. In this strategic role, you’ll lead health and safety programs that protect our people, ensure customer trust, and align with ASM’s global vision. You’ll work closely with regional leadership and global counterparts to ensure our safety standards stay ahead of evolving industry regulations and customer expectations.

What you will be working on

• Lead the execution and continuous improvement of ASM’s Health & Safety (H&S) programs across Japan’s Service region
• Serve as the main safety leader for the region, partnering with management, service teams, and customer sites to ensure safe work environments
• Ensure compliance with all applicable local/regional regulations, ASM policies, SEMI standards, and customer-specific safety procedures
• Provide strategic and tactical guidance on H&S matters to Japan Service Management and Global EHS leaders
• Serve as a subject matter expert to regional teams on safety-related issues and workplace risk mitigation
• Analyze safety data and metrics, identify trends, and implement action plans that drive performance and reduce risk
• Coordinate and enhance safety incident investigations, emergency response planning, and health case reporting
• Develop, maintain, and deliver safety training programs for service engineers and office personnel
• Build and maintain trusted relationships with customer EHS counterparts to align programs and ensure seamless compliance
• Organize and lead safety committee meetings, representing the voice of the service organization
• Contribute to global alignment by working with other regional Service Safety Managers to define and standardize H&S procedures and documentation
• Provide leadership and technical guidance to a local team of EHS Engineers
• Travel up to 50% within Japan to support service offices and customer fab sites

What we are looking for

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Health & Safety Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive H&S experience in high-tech industries such as semiconductor manufacturing, equipment service, or design
• Deep knowledge of ISO 45001 standards and Japanese regulatory frameworks
• Experience working in or supporting semiconductor fabs or high-containment facilities
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and Japanese
• Comfortable working in cleanroom environments and around hazardous materials and systems

Role Overview

As a Metrology Engineer, you will be responsible for managing high-performance TEM and FIB equipment in our R&D laboratory in Japan. You will collaborate closely with the R&D team to collect and analyze data, support lab operations, and ensure equipment is maintained in optimal condition for efficient performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain FIB systems for semiconductor device and material analysis; perform routine checks to ensure optimal performance.
• Support TEM-related tasks as needed, including sample preparation and basic operation (advanced TEM work is a plus).
• Create and document Best Known Methods (BKMs) and production-ready recipes
• Maintain lab cleanliness and organization
• Collaborate with process engineers to choose characterization methods, interpret data, and develop solutions to improve analysis and performance.
• Maintain SPC and uptime data; contribute to tool efficiency initiatives

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Master’s or Ph.D. preferred).
• Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience with FIB tools for semiconductor device or material analysis (TEM experience is a strong plus).
• Fluency in Japanese and business-level English communication skills
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills

• Understanding of semiconductor processing and device fabrication

Key Responsibilities

[Support]

• Gather information to investigate reported issues, reproduce the problems, and create bug reports for customer site tools.
• Troubleshoot and resolve software issues, including embedded software for control systems for customer site tools.
  Able to triage mechanical, electrical, and software-related problems.
• Work with QA to add reproduced issues to regression testing.
• Travel to customer sites to support installation, training, and troubleshooting of ASM products.
• When investigating reported issues, coordinate with the account team and GPS group rather than communicating directly with the customer.

[QA]

• Test pre-release software as part of QA activities and create bug reports for any issues found.

• Promote business improvement using Global QA tools.
• Evaluate designed/developed software with simulator and the actual tool.

• Work with support to add reproduced issues to regression testing.
• Responsible for setting up and managing the in-house software test environment.

Key Requirements

• 3 years+ of experience as software QA tester.
• Experience with JIRA and TestRail.
• Ability to work across cultural barriers.

Preferred Qualifications

• Design and develop application software, device drivers for hardware control, and communication software for customers’ host systems.
• Define development specifications and create required engineering documents.
• Investigate faults, defects, and bugs occurring at customer sites or manufacturing sites, and propose fixes and functional improvements.
• Review customer requests and specifications, and propose appropriate technical solutions.

Key Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong software engineering knowledge with programming experience in C, C++, and/or C#.

Role Overview

As a Software Support Engineer (SSE) at ASM, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability of our software in customer environments and developing customer-specific solutions. You will work closely with field teams and customers to identify and resolve issues quickly, support host automation, and contribute to feature development based on customer specification

Key Responsibilities (in order of priority)

1. Customer Software Reliability

   • Rapidly identify, troubleshoot, and resolve software issues in customer environments.
   • Collaborate with field support engineers to manage escalations and ensure timely resolution.
   • Collect and analyze system data from field tools to support root cause analysis and continuous improvement.
   • Work with QA and support teams to document and replicate bugs for regression testing.

2. Customer-Specific Feature Development

   • Review and interpret customer specifications to support feature development and customization.
   • Assist in the design and implementation of small-scale features tailored to customer needs.
   • Provide technical feedback and clarification during specification and requirement discussions.

3. Field Support and Host Automation

   • Provide online support for host automation and interface-related issues.
