Your Role:

The Chief Anti-Money Laundering Officer (CAMLO) is responsible for implementing and developing Alpaca Canada’s written anti-money laundering (AML) and anti-terrorist financing (ATF) policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements under CIRO, FINTRAC, and other applicable regulators.  The CAMLO is a key member of the management team and will be accountable for the firm's day-to-day compliance with its AML, ATF & Sanctions program and policies ensuring proper risk assessments, documentation and reporting are maintained.  You will create a process for tracking, and reporting identified potential suspicious transactions to the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC) as required by rule. You will design and implement the firm’s AML training program which must include compliance with United Nations (UN) Regulations. As directed by the Head of Global AML & Sanctions Compliance the CAMLO will work closely with them to ensure alignment across subsidiaries, and may be assigned for other tasks and projects as needed to support the over Global AML & Sanctions Compliance.

Policy and Program Management:

• Implement and develop Alpaca's written AML, ATF and Sanctions policies and procedures.
• Assess and document money laundering and terrorist financing risks, as well as measures to mitigate high-risk situations.

Client and Transaction Monitoring:

• Implement a process to ensure that all required checks for onboarding new client accounts include a customer identification, and verification process as prescribed by regulations.
• Create a risk based transaction monitoring system to ensure ongoing compliance with identifying any potential red flags, and AML concerns. 
• Design a procedure that details what is considered a high-risk person or account and how the firm will monitor such accounts and activity. 

Reporting and Record-Keeping:

• File all Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) with FINTRAC as soon as practicable and retain a copy for audit purposes. Ensure all STRs are submitted within 30 days or as needed of establishing reasonable grounds for potential suspicion activities. 
• Complete and file all required monthly reports to the principal regulator, CIRO, concerning the suppression of terrorism legislation.
• Ensure that all relevant records, such as client identification documents, account opening records, and reports, are retained for a period of at least seven years, in accordance with Alpaca Canada’s policy.
• Work with the Chief Compliance Officer, as needed, from time to time to support, and supply reports and documentation as requested for internal and external auditors.

Training and Communication:

• Be responsible for the implementation and documentation of an ongoing AML compliance training program.
• Ensure that all employees receive training on AML procedures, including identifying suspicious transactions, record-keeping, and reporting requirements, as well as the potential penalties for non-compliance.
• Deliver training to new employees before they begin dealing with new clients.
• Maintain a training log with details of each session, attendees, and content.

Regulatory and Internal Liaison:

• Serve on the Risk, Compliance & Legal Committee to achieve and implement best practices in risk management and compliance for Alpaca Canada and its subsidiaries.
• Report to the Head of Global AML & Sanctions Program, CCO and UDP on compliance matters as necessary to ensure the business is conducted in compliance with AML CIRO regulations.
• Submit an annual report to the firm’s board of directors for assessing compliance with AML CIRO Rules and applicable securities laws.
• Establish an annual independent audit for Alpaca Canada’s AML program using CIRO recognized third-party auditors.  

What We Look For in You (Job Requirements):

Your Role

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Platform Team, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining the shared services that keep Alpaca running, including our Redpanda-based event streaming infrastructure and authentication and authorization systems.

We are looking for experienced developers who are not afraid to get their hands dirty with managing infrastructure. We own both client-facing and internal services, we maintain shared libraries, and we manage our own deployments. Most of our time is spent writing Go code, but we also work on Helm charts, analyze logs and metrics, manage our own deployments, and, in general, get called in to help with a large variety of tasks.

We are looking for a Head of Data to lead Alpaca’s ~15-person data department across Platform Engineering, Analytics Engineering, and Data Science. You will own the data strategy, the team’s execution, and the department’s roadmap.

The Data department serves every function at Alpaca: it powers partner invoicing and revenue attribution, provides the analytical foundation for sales, product, and compliance, and operates the data platform that processes hundreds of millions of events daily. You will manage three team leads, balancing operational delivery (invoicing, embedded analytics, regulatory reporting) with strategic bets (self-service warehouse, AI-powered analytics, enterprise search).

This is a player-coach role. You will set direction for the team while staying close enough to the technical details to make architecture decisions, unblock your leads, and represent data’s capabilities to the executive team.

Things You Get To Do:

• Lead and develop three sub-teams: Platform Engineering & ETL, Analytics Engineering, and Data Science & Analytics. Manage leads, set priorities, and ensure delivery.
• Own the Data Lakehouse architecture: Trino, Iceberg/GCS, Airflow, Airbyte, Redpanda CDC, dbt. Make build-vs-buy decisions on tooling.
• Drive partner invoicing accuracy and evolution: ensure invoicing logic is versioned, reproducible, and scales with new pricing mechanisms and product launches.
• Deliver embedded analytics: expose warehouse data to partners via BrokerDash, SSR pipelines, and API-based reporting. Own row-level security and entitlements.
• Support product launches with data change management: coordinate data impact analysis for new products (fixed income, global stocks, perps, 24/5 trading) across downstream datasets, dashboards, and reverse ETL.
• Accelerate self-service: move the organization toward self-serve analytics via semantic layers, data catalogues, and conversational BI so the data team can shift from ad-hoc queries to strategic projects.
• Guide AI/ML enablement: oversee enterprise AI search, agent-based workflow automation, and LLM-powered analytics. Help balance vendor solutions with in-house development.
• Collaborate with Finance, Sales, Product, Compliance, and Customer Success to translate business needs into data products.
• Manage infrastructure costs: keep data + cloud cost ratio under target as AUC grows.
• Operate production systems: own on-call processes, incident response, and SLOs for data freshness, accuracy, and availability.

Who You Are (Must-Haves):

• 8+ years in data engineering or analytics, including 3+ years managing data teams (leads + ICs).
• Deep experience with modern data stack: dbt, Trino/Presto or equivalent query engines, Apache Iceberg or similar table formats, cloud object storage.
• Hands-on experience with ETL/ELT patterns at scale: CDC (Debezium/Kafka), batch (Airflow/dbt), streaming, and reverse ETL.
• Track record of building self-service analytics capabilities for non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience with financial data: trading, invoicing, revenue attribution, or regulatory reporting in fintech or financial services.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL. Comfortable reading code, reviewing PRs, and making architecture decisions.
• Experience managing distributed/remote teams across multiple time zones.
• Strong stakeholder management: you can translate between executive priorities and engineering execution.
• Experience with GCP (GKE, GCS, BigQuery migration), Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform.

Who You Might Be (Nice-to-Haves):

• Experience with brokerage or broker-dealer operations (clearing, settlement, market making, reconciliation).
• Familiarity with LLM/AI tooling: MCP, vector databases, enterprise search, conversational BI (WrenAI, Cube).
• Background in compliance analytics (AML/Actimize, KYC, margin calls).
• Exposure to open-source data catalogues (OpenMetadata, Collate) and data quality frameworks.

Your Role: Alpaca is seeking an experienced Senior Data Scientist to join our remote, distributed team. This role is pivotal in driving insights and innovation from our rich data ecosystem, including financial transactions, customer data, API usage patterns, and third-party sources.

You will be responsible for applying deep predictive and descriptive analytics to unlock strategic value and will be a key player in developing our next generation of agentic AI applications.

What You'll Do

• Lead Advanced Analysis: Design and execute deep predictive and descriptive analyses across our core business domains, including finance, marketing, and product metrics, to identify key trends, optimization opportunities, and strategic insights.
• Develop Agentic AI: Spearhead the research, proof-of-concept (PoC), and full-lifecycle development of data-intensive applications, with a specific focus on building and deploying agentic AI systems.
• Drive Model Lifecycle: Own the end-to-end development of data science solutions, from initial research and data handling (high-volume transactions, metrics) through to deployment, optimization, and maintenance.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with stakeholders in sales, marketing, product, and operations to understand complex business needs and translate them into actionable, data-driven solutions.
• Evolve Capabilities: Contribute to the evolution of Alpaca's data science capabilities by championing best practices in statistical modelling, MLOps, and advanced AI.

Required Qualifications

• Domain Experience: Proven experience as a Senior Data Scientist with direct, hands-on experience in the brokerage, trading, or financial services industry.
• Technical Proficiency: Expert-level proficiency in Python (including common data science libraries like pandas, scikit-learn, etc.) and advanced SQL.
• Data Science Expertise: Deep understanding of statistical methods for supervised and unsupervised learning, with a strong portfolio of building and deploying models in a production environment.
• Cloud & Data Warehousing: Hands-on experience with cloud-native data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift; we use Trino & Iceberg) and familiarity with modern ETL processes.
• Full-Stack Mindset: Ability to lead projects through the entire lifecycle (research, development, deployment, maintenance) and a strong understanding of handling high-volume data.
• Collaboration: Excellent communication skills and a proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, translating complex findings for non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Have)

• Agentic AI / LLMs: Direct experience building applications using Large Language Models (LLMs) or agentic AI frameworks (we use Google Agent Engine).

Semantic Layers: Familiarity with data modelling and semantic layers (e.g., dbt Semantic Layer, Cube.js, LookML).

We are seeking an experienced IT Operations Specialist to help support our team members with IT-related tasks and help ensure the Security of our organization.

The IT Team is 100% distributed and remote. This role will report directly to the IT Support Lead.
