Your Role

We are seeking a dedicated Tax Manager - Product & Operations to act as our core Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Germany, while playing a critical role in our expansion into key European markets like Spain and France.

In this highly collaborative, hands-on role, you will sit at the intersection of tax compliance and product management. Your Role: We are seeking a Senior Data Platform Engineer to design and develop the data management layer for our platform to ensure its scalability as we expand to larger customers and new jurisdictions. At Alpaca, data engineering encompasses financial transactions, customer data, API logs, system metrics, augmented data, and third-party systems that impact decision-making for both internal and external users. We process hundreds of millions of events daily, with this number growing as we onboard new customers.

We prioritize open-source solutions in our data management approach, leveraging a Google Cloud Platform (GCP) foundation for our data infrastructure. This includes batch/stream ingestion, transformation, and consumption layers for BI, internal use, and external third-party sinks. Additionally, we oversee data experimentation, cataloging, and monitoring and alerting systems.

Responsibilities:

• Design and oversee key forward- and reverse-ETL patterns to deliver data to relevant stakeholders.

The Data department serves every function at Alpaca: it powers partner invoicing and revenue attribution, provides the analytical foundation for sales, product, and compliance, and operates the data platform that processes hundreds of millions of events daily. You will manage three team leads, balancing operational delivery (invoicing, embedded analytics, regulatory reporting) with strategic bets (self-service warehouse, AI-powered analytics, enterprise search).

This is a player-coach role. You will set direction for the team while staying close enough to the technical details to make architecture decisions, unblock your leads, and represent data’s capabilities to the executive team.

• Lead and develop three sub-teams: Platform Engineering & ETL, Analytics Engineering, and Data Science & Analytics. Manage leads, set priorities, and ensure delivery.
