Land Surveyor / Project Surveyor
Join Benesch's Wisconsin Division as a Land Surveyor. As part of our Civil Engineering team, you will provide various field data collection and staking activities, prepare survey drawings, and work directly with internal/external clients.
The ideal candidate will have over 10 years of surveying experience, showcasing expertise in various aspects such as WisDOT topographic field work, construction inspection surveying, support for field personnel, earthwork volumes assessment, drone data collection, boundary monument searches, office data reduction, scheduling assistance, Recorder's Office research, boundary calculations, plat creation, and legal description drafting. Proficiency in boundary work, specifically with right-of-way plats, ALTA/ACSM Land Title Surveys, Boundary Plats, and Easement Plats, is highly desired.
Location
This position will have a hybrid work schedule and, when in the office, will work from any of our Wisconsin region locations, including Madison, WI, Milwaukee, WI, or Neenah, WI.
The Impact You Will Have
- Collaborate with the Project Manager to establish survey requirements and conduct surveys in line with standards and contract specifications.
- Research necessary records, perform calculations, and analyze measurements for property locations and legal descriptions.
- Oversee final plat preparation and provide updates on progress, budget, and technical issues. Generate and review survey-related project correspondence, assist in data compilation, and ensure quality control.
- Communicate field issues to the Project Manager, document out-of-scope work, and participate in contract negotiations.
What We Are Looking For
- PLS certification in the State of Wisconsin
- Associate degree or higher in Survey & Geomatics, Survey Technology, or other related surveying program preferred, HS diploma or GED required.
- 10+ years of experience in drafting plats and boundary calculations.
- Experience processing survey and completing plats in WisDOT environment (Civil3D).
- You thrive working independently while seamlessly collaborating within a diverse project team.
- Effective communication with project leaders and clients is one of your strengths.
- Your attention to detail shines through in maintaining clear and concise project records and files.

Roadway Project Engineer
We have an exciting career opportunity for a Project Engineer to join our Civil Roadway team in Milwaukee, Madison or Neenah! The ideal candidate has experience with civil transportation design and comprehensive knowledge of roadway projects and developing plans in accordance with local DOT standards.
Location
This position will report to our Milwaukee, Madison or Neenah office.
The Impact You Will Have
- Work closely with senior staff to deliver transportation projects
- Ability to work independently within a design team to execute project work plans
- Be accountable for budgets and schedules provided by the Project Manager
- Mentor junior staff
- Interact with clients, agencies, and other project stakeholders
What You Will Need
- A minimum of 4 years of diverse and progressive civil transportation design experience
- Licensed PE in the state of Wisconsin or able to obtain licensure through comity within one year
- B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering
- Experience working with public agencies, private entities and/or municipalities
- Progressive experience with developing plans specifications, and submissions per DOT standards and requirements
- Excellent communication and client relation skills

Structural Project Engineer
Join our growing Structural team as a Structural Project Engineer. In this role you will work on various transportation projects with state and local transportation agencies. As a project engineer you will perform engineering models, analysis and/or designs, and supporting calculations / documentation. You will also coordinate the drafting of project elements for various clients.
Location
This position will be in our office in Milwaukee, WI.
The Impact You Will Have
- Collect and assimilate data and perform modeling, analysis and/or design calculations of project elements.
- Draw design details under direction of others.
- Compute quantities and demonstrate awareness of relationships to pay items.
- Organize calculations to be included in design files, following project standards.
- Coordinate drafting of an element.
- Perform field or site visits as needed.
- Develop cursory knowledge of applicable codes and standards and use of applicable CADD and Microsoft software.
What We Are Looking For
- B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline required
- PE License in Wisconsin or ability to obtain through reciprocity
- Certified Bridge Safety Inspector (CBSI) – not required, but preferred
- Minimum of 8 years of design, load rating and inspection experience
- Experience working with WisDOT and/or municipalities
- Excellent communication and client relation skills
- Progressive experience with developing contract and utilizing MicroStation Connects, Open Roads and Open Bridge Design software

Division Manager
The Wisconsin Division is a growing division with a very strong client reputation. This is a senior-level Officer position in the organization focused on the long-term sustainable growth of the Wisconsin Division. This position directs and coordinates activities of business areas, including operations and business development for the three division offices across the state. The Division Manager will lead business development efforts in collaboration with the Regional Manager and Chief Business Development Officer to position the company for growth. The Division Manager will also be responsible for operations in collaboration with the Regional Manager and Chief Operating Officer to maintain strong, sustainable financial performance and employee development.
The ideal candidate will have an extensive and well-established network of contacts in the sectors and geography (WI) the company serves. They assist the Regional Manager with planning and implementing short and long-range strategic plans for the division. They are responsible for formulating and administering operations plans and processes. The Division Manager serves as an advisor to Group Managers to achieve desired outcomes for the company and our clients. They provide direction regarding daily operations within the division, implement plans and policies to achieve overall objectives, and ensure compliance with our mission and vision.
The Impact You Will Have:
- Leads business development efforts within the division to secure work in market sectors the company currently serves and those the company would like to serve in the future.
- Initiates or maintains relationships with prospective and existing clients as a trusted advisor who liaises between clients and the business and maintains an extensive and well-established network of contacts in the sectors the company serves.
- Evaluate market trends and author business development and annual sales plans as needed to capitalize on those trends.
- Researches, reviews, and recommends new market areas to achieve both geographic and discipline diversification.
- Prepares business plans and budgets for approval by the Regional Manager.
- Plans, reviews, and approves the division's business development activities and annual budgets.
- Manages implementation of the short-term and long-range business plans for the division and meets annual sales goals.
- Develops and implements opportunities to enhance the company's reputation through professional and civic activities and organizations, presentations, public speaking engagements, and publishing of thought leadership articles.
- Maintains an effective business development program, securing profitable work on a routine basis.
- Monitors the division for compliance with financial objectives, including chargeability, net revenue, profit and overhead, and project performance.
- Coordinates workloads in division office(s) and facilitates cross-division work-sharing when appropriate.
- Identifies staffing needs and leads recruitment efforts with the assistance of the Talent Acquisition team.
- Develops and executes a strategy to attract, hire, develop, and retain diverse candidates.
- Develops leaders and successors within the division to prepare them for future growth opportunities.
- Provide guidance, coaching, and direction to Group Managers in identifying potential clients/projects and desired scope of work.
- Provides strong leadership to foster and enhance a culture of safety within the division.
- Monitors implementation of policies and procedures for division office(s).
- Assures that Quality Management Program guidelines are being implemented in division offices.
- Provides recommendations to the Regional Manager concerning annual budgets, capital expenditures, salary adjustments, promotions, and bonus ratings for approval by the COO.
- Maintains a positive relationship and effective communication with clients, managers, and corporate partners.
- Advises the Regional Manager of any human resource issues and changes in division staff.
- Develops the experience and professionalism of the division's staff and selects, develops, and mentors management talent.
- Performs any other duties assigned by the Regional Manager.
What You Will Need:
- Bachelor’s degree in technical-related discipline
- Licensure or certification in the respective field preferred
- Ability to lead, manage, mentor, and grow a dynamic team
- Ability to build and leverage relationships to grow the business with progressive experience working directly with clients developing relationships, and the ability to win work
- Strong communication, organization, people management skills, business development skills, and leadership skills with a track record of understanding and adhering to contractual requirements
- Strong understanding of project financials and reporting; maintaining compliance with Division and Project financial objectives, including chargeability, profit, overhead
- Participate in local civic and professional organizations such as ACEC, WTBA, WCHAWCPA, WAPA, CMAA, WTS and similar professional organizations to promote the Company
