We invite a Senior Software Engineer/Team Lead to join a long-term strategic project for a global payment technology company. You'll work on a mission-critical harmonization platform that connects diverse payment devices, merchant systems, and authorization networks through a unified transaction processing layer. In this role, you’ll combine hands-on engineering with technical leadership and work closely with client engineering stakeholders to support technical alignment and delivery, including regular on-site visits to Zagreb to represent technical expertise and strengthen client collaboration.

✅ Is that you?

• 5+ years of hands-on software engineering experience
• Strong programming experience with Java
• Experience building and maintaining high-performance backend systems
• Solid understanding of backend architecture, APIs, integrations, and abstraction layers
• Experience with PostgreSQL, Git, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing
• Strong background in card payment processing or banking domains
• Experience working in Agile environments with modern engineering practices
• Experience in a technical leadership or cross-functional team lead role
• Strong ownership mindset and ability to drive end-to-end delivery
• Strong communication skills and maturity in client and stakeholder collaboration
• High level of self-organization and reliability
• Solution-oriented mindset with ability to prioritize, follow up, and escalate when needed
• Upper-Intermediate+ English level and Croatian language proficiency
• Residence in Croatia or nearby countries and ability to travel periodically to Zagreb for on-site technical collaboration

Desirable:

• Experience with Perl and willingness to work with existing Perl-based integration logic
• Experience with C
• Experience with .NET
• Experience in client-facing or on-site collaboration environments

🧩Key responsibilities and your contribution

In this role, you'll work on a mission-critical payment processing platform that integrates and processes transactions across diverse payment devices, merchant systems, and authorization networks.

• Develop and maintain backend components for a payment processing platform
• Work with C and Java-based systems supporting core processing logic and integrations
• Collaborate with engineers, QA, BAs, and client stakeholders in a cross-functional Agile team
• Own delivery from design through implementation, testing, and release
• Participate in unit testing and CI/CD processes
• Participate in technical design discussions and code reviews
• Work with existing Perl-based components when needed
• Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and coordination within the team
• Identify risks, dependencies, and delivery blockers, and help resolve them
• Contribute to improvements in engineering practices and development processes
• Support alignment between technical solutions and client expectations
• Help build trust and effective collaboration with client engineering stakeholders
