Job Description:

Reporting to the Engineering & Maintenance (E&M) Manager, the Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) Engineer is responsible for providing professional engineering expertise to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of research and development, inclusive of pilot scale equipment. 

The EC&I Engineer is accountable for maintaining asset integrity, availability, and regulatory compliance through the implementation of effective maintenance strategies, engineering standards, reliability improvement programmes, and supporting capital projects. The role provides technical support across electrical distribution systems, control systems, instrumentation, automation, and functional safety, ensuring engineering solutions support operational requirements and business objectives.

The EC&I Engineer works collaboratively with operations, maintenance teams, contractors, and customers to deliver engineering excellence while maintaining compliance with applicable legislation, engineering standards, and management systems.

The role will be a site based operational role at Bengaluru R&D centre.    

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve preventative and predictive maintenance strategies for all assigned EC&I assets.

  • Ensure electrical, control, and instrumentation systems are maintained to deliver safe, reliable, and compliant operations.

  • Support reliability improvement initiatives using structured engineering methodologies including Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM).

  • Monitor asset performance, analyse trends, and identify opportunities to improve reliability, availability, and maintainability.

  • Support lifecycle management of electrical and control system assets.

  • Provide technical support and specialist EC&I support for maintenance activities, troubleshooting, shutdowns, plant modifications, and unplanned events.

  • Diagnose complex electrical and control system faults and implement effective corrective actions.

  • Support operational teams in resolving equipment issues impacting safety, quality, production, or facility performance.

  • Specify, design, and review:

    • Electrical distribution systems

    • Motor control centres (MCCs)

    • Instrumentation systems

    • PLC and DCS control systems

    • Safety instrumented systems (SIS)

    • Field instrumentation and associated infrastructure

  • Provide technical assurance for equipment procurement and vendor selection.

  • Ensure all engineering changes are managed through the Management of Change (MoC) process and fully documented.

  • Support commissioning, start-up, validation, and performance testing activities.

  • Support and feed into maintenance plans, inspection programmes, and statutory compliance activities for EC&I equipment.

  • Support planning and execution of facility shutdowns, outages, and major maintenance events.

  • Support compliance with electrical safety legislation, standards, and company requirements.

  • Contribute to the design, maintenance, and verification of safety-related control systems.

  • Participate in HAZOPs, LOPA studies, risk assessments, SIL assessments, and other process safety activities as required.

  • Participate in incident investigations, audits, inspections, behavioural safety initiatives, and corrective action programmes.

  • Ensure all activities are undertaken in accordance with company HSSE standards and expectations.

Essential

  • Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in:

    • Electrical Engineering

    • Control & Instrumentation Engineering

    • Automation Engineering

    • Electronic Engineering

    • Or equivalent engineering discipline.

  • Confirmed experience within a research and development environment, utilities, laboratory, chemical, energy, or process environment.

  • Confirmed experience with control systems

  • Knowledge of:

    • Electrical distribution systems

    • Instrumentation and control systems

    • PLC and DCS platforms

    • CMMS systems

    • Root Cause Analysis methodologies

  • Experience leading engineering projects and modifications.

  • Understanding of engineering risk management and Management of Change processes.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
