What this job involves:
As a Facilities Assistant - Back of House at JLL, you'll be an essential part of keeping our clients' operations running smoothly behind the scenes. This role focuses on supporting the critical infrastructure and operational areas that make buildings function efficiently—from mechanical rooms and service corridors to loading docks and storage facilities. You'll work closely with our facilities management team to ensure these vital spaces are maintained to the highest standards, responding to service requests, coordinating with vendors, and helping to create safe, functional environments where building systems can operate at their best. You'll gain hands-on experience across multiple facets of facilities operations while contributing to a team that values collaboration and continuous improvement.
What your day-to-day will look like:
- Conduct routine inspections of back-of-house areas including mechanical rooms, electrical closets, loading docks, and service corridors to identify maintenance needs and safety concerns
- Respond promptly to work orders and service requests, coordinating with building engineers and maintenance staff to ensure timely resolution
- Assist with receiving deliveries, managing inventory of supplies and equipment, and maintaining organized storage areas
- Support preventive maintenance activities by preparing work areas, gathering necessary tools and materials, and documenting completion of scheduled tasks
- Monitor building management systems and utility meters, recording readings and reporting anomalies to senior facilities staff
- Coordinate with external vendors and contractors during service visits, ensuring work is completed according to specifications and safety protocols
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspection logs, and equipment service histories using computerized maintenance management systems
- Help ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations by maintaining clean, organized work environments and following established procedures
- Participate in emergency response protocols and after-hours on-call rotation as needed to address urgent facility issues
Required qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1-2 years of experience in facilities maintenance, building operations, or a related field
- Basic understanding of building systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical equipment
- Ability to read and interpret work orders, safety documentation, and basic technical drawings or schematics
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively
- Comfortable working in varied environments including confined spaces, mechanical rooms, and outdoor service areas
- Physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and stand or walk for extended periods
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for potential travel between building locations
- Availability to work flexible hours including occasional evenings, weekends, or emergency call-outs as required
Preferred qualifications:
- Associate degree or technical certification in facilities management, building maintenance, or related discipline
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or work order tracking software
- Familiarity with OSHA safety standards and building code requirements
- Basic knowledge of energy management practices and sustainability initiatives in commercial real estate
- Previous experience working in corporate office buildings, healthcare facilities, or other commercial properties
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to interact professionally with vendors, contractors, and building occupants
