About the Role
Trend Micro is seeking an Associate Corporate Counsel to support its global consumer business, TrendLife, as a full-time member of the Trend Micro legal team. Based in Taipei, this attorney will be a core legal partner for TrendLife's Taiwan and broader APAC operations, with specialist responsibility for product counseling, consumer product terms, day-to-day privacy support, and regional product and digital-platform compliance.
This role sits within the TrendLife legal organization and will work closely with a US-based Associate Corporate Counsel and the Japan legal team. The position is designed for a small, self-sufficient business-unit legal function: the attorney is expected to resolve most routine business matters directly, build scalable legal processes, provide cross-regional backup, and use parent-company or outside specialist counsel selectively for high-risk or specialized issues.

What You'll Do
Commercial Contracts (Core)
•    Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements supporting the consumer software business, including vendor agreements, reseller/channel and retail agreements, marketing partnerships, data-processing terms, and SaaS/cloud agreements.
•    Maintain and improve contract templates, fallback positions, and negotiation playbooks to standardize terms and accelerate deal cycles.
•    Partner with procurement, sales, marketing, product, and business teams to structure arrangements that balance legal risk with business speed.

Product, Consumer Terms & Platform Compliance (Specialist Focus)
•    Serve as primary day-to-day legal partner for TrendLife product and engineering teams across Taiwan and broader APAC on feature development, launches, and go-to-market review.
•    Own drafting and maintenance of consumer-facing product terms and disclosures, including EULAs, Terms of Service, subscription terms, in-app consent flows, and product-specific notices.
•    Advise on subscription, auto-renewal, cancellation, pricing, promotion, and other consumer-protection requirements for Taiwan/APAC, coordinating with the US counsel on global standards and with local counsel where specialist jurisdictional advice is required.
•    Support legal review of app-store, marketplace, and other platform requirements affecting product distribution, consumer terms, billing, or product functionality.

Privacy, Data & Emerging Technology
•    Own day-to-day privacy legal support for Taiwan and assigned APAC markets, including privacy notices, consent mechanisms, data-processing review, data-subject rights workflows, and privacy-by-design support.
•    Apply Taiwan/APAC privacy requirements and working knowledge of major global frameworks such as GDPR and CCPA/CPRA; coordinate complex cross-border or global privacy matters with the US counsel and other specialist resources.
•    Partner with Product, Security, and Engineering on product-security regulation, cybersecurity representations, telemetry and threat-data use, vulnerability-related issues, and privacy or security incident response.
•    Co-own the business unit's practical AI-governance framework, including third-party AI vendors, use of customer or product data, consumer-facing AI features, AI-generated content, and emerging APAC AI regulation.

Marketing & Consumer Protection Law (Core)
•    Review advertising, promotional, pricing, and lifecycle-marketing activities for general consumer-protection and advertising compliance.
•    Apply APAC consumer-protection nuance, including relevant Fair Trade Act requirements, to campaigns, disclosures, pricing, promotions, and customer communications.
•    Support routine consumer complaints, regulator inquiries, and pre-litigation matters in the region, escalating material enforcement or disputes to specialist counsel.

Cross-Regional Collaboration & Backup Coverage
•    Act as backup counsel on core commercial, product, privacy, and high-level consumer-regulatory matters for other regions during coverage gaps, and vice versa.
•    Partner closely with the US-based counsel and Japan legal team to maintain consistent global legal positions while accounting for regional requirements.
•    Support corporate and entity-related workstreams associated with business-units as needed, while escalating specialized corporate, M&A, employment, antitrust, trade, IP-dispute, and litigation matters.

Outside Counsel & Legal Operations
•    Manage outside counsel engagements for Taiwan and assigned APAC matters, including scoping, budget oversight, work-product review, and deciding when specialist local advice is necessary.
•    Track legislative and regulatory developments relevant to the consumer software business and translate them into practical product and business requirements.
•    Build and maintain templates, playbooks, approval matrices, product-review checklists, self-service guidance, and legal intake processes designed to maximize day-to-day self-sufficiency.

What You'll Bring
Required
•    J.D. or equivalent law degree; license to practice law in Taiwan or another qualifying jurisdiction relevant to the role.
•    5-8 years of legal experience, including meaningful in-house experience at a technology, software, digital-commerce, or consumer product company.
•    Strong product-counseling experience, including EULAs, Terms of Service, consumer disclosures, product launches, and privacy-by-design review.
•    Strong working knowledge of Taiwan privacy and consumer-protection requirements and familiarity with broader APAC legal and regulatory issues.
•    Working knowledge of major global privacy frameworks, including GDPR and CCPA/CPRA, sufficient to identify cross-border issues and coordinate with specialist counsel.
•    Demonstrated experience drafting and negotiating commercial software, SaaS, vendor, channel, or reseller agreements.
•    Business-level proficiency in both Mandarin and English, written and spoken; able to explain legal risk clearly and practically in both languages.
•    Ability to operate independently, manage multiple priorities, and exercise sound judgment on when to resolve versus escalate.
•    Experience managing outside counsel relationships.

Preferred
•    Experience supporting a consumer subscription, cybersecurity, SaaS, mobile-app, or other digital-product business.
•    Familiarity with consumer-protection, privacy, or digital-commerce regulation in additional APAC markets, particularly Australia/New Zealand.
•    Experience with app-store/platform compliance, cybersecurity or product-security regulation, and review of consumer-facing AI functionality.
•    Familiarity with practical AI-governance frameworks and fluency using AI tools in legal work.
