About the Role
As an AI Engineer, you'll design and build AI-driven capabilities that enhance how users create, transform, and collaborate on canvas. You'll bridge AI innovation and product delivery - shipping delightful, safe, and reliable experiences that leverage cutting-edge LLMs while maintaining the performance and polish users expect from Miro's collaborative canvas.
What you’ll do
- Design, develop, and ship AI-driven capabilities—including agents, intelligent assistants, context-aware prediction, and generative AI—using Python, top-tier LLMs, TypeScript, React, Canvas, and WebGL
- Engineer high-performing AI workflows leveraging LLMs (OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini), prompt engineering, and generative techniques—ensuring reliability, scalability, and maintainability
- Execute end-to-end AI projects from conceptualization and prototyping to production code, collaborating closely with product managers, designers, and engineers
- Experiment and iterate on AI capabilities within your team domain, staying ahead of emerging AI tools, frameworks, and techniques
- Champion best practices in AI system development—including evaluations, LLMOps, CI/CD, observability, and ethical AI principles
- Measure and optimize AI performance, establishing benchmarks for user engagement, model accuracy, latency, error rate, and drift
- Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code, participating in code reviews and® technical discussions across the stream
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, ensuring high availability and performance
What you’ll need
- 3+ years of professional experience with a proven track record delivering AI-first capabilities in customer-facing products—driving value through features users directly interact with
- Excellent communication skills, able to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
- Strong Python skills and familiarity with FE technologies (e.g. Typescript, React etc)
- Demonstrated expertise in prompt engineering and context engineering using top-tier LLMs (OpenAI GPT, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini)
- Ability to develop high-quality, production-ready code within complex codebases
- Experience with LLM evaluation frameworks and a track record of building evals that meaningfully inform model selection, prompt iteration, or feature quality.
- Solid understanding of ML fundamentals, including probabilistic modeling, evaluation techniques, and deep neural networks
- Experience with LLMOps and cloud services (AWS, Azure, Amazon Bedrock, etc.)
- AI-First Proficiency. We’re building for an AI-first future, and we’re looking for graduates who aren’t just using AI—they’re mastering it. We’re excited to meet early-career engineers who have moved beyond simple chat prompts and have truly integrated AI into their development flow. Whether it’s using AI agents for autonomous debugging, analyzing logs, or rapidly prototyping and shipping features to production, we value the ability to "pilot" these tools to deliver high-quality code at an ambitious pace.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with rendering technologies like WebGL, Canvas API, or 2D graphics libraries (PixiJS, Skia)
- Nice-to-have: Real-time technologies experience (WebSocket)
- Nice-to-have: Vector databases, RAG pipelines, LangChain, or agent frameworks
- Nice-to-have: Multi-modal AI or long-context handling
- Nice-to-have: ML frameworks: PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face Transformers

About the Team
About the Role
We’re looking for a Backend Engineer who will help us achieve ambitious goals. We expect you to have a strong software engineering experience, readiness to drive change and experiment in search of the best solution, an understanding of how to work with big loads, and be able to scale it. Be responsible for the important parts of the code and be willing to take on difficult challenges, collaborate with teams across Miro to provide well-defined and extendable interfaces on Canvas model data.
What you’ll do
- Create high quality technical design and high quality, self-documented code
- Design and implement scalable and high-performing solutions with concurrency and fault-tolerance in mind
- Optimize application performance and scalability, identifying areas for improvement and implementing necessary enhancements.
- Design and implement flexible but stable and future-proof data access patterns and contracts (APIs, events)
- Take long-term ownership for feature/subsystem
- Write exception-safe mission-critical code that has no right to crash
- Collaborate with teams across Miro to improve our product, architecture, and engineering practices
What you’ll need
- 5+ years of backend development experience. We use Java 17, Kotlin and Spring (+Spring Boot)
- 4+ years of experience building robust, high-scale, distributed systems in production environments
- Proficient in REST, WebSockets for real-time communication
- Familiarity with cloud architecture, with preference given to experience with AWS.
- Understanding of high-load architecture and SaaS infrastructure
- Understanding of Apache Kafka or equivalent messaging systems
- Proficient in multithreading concepts in Java, including thread management, thread pools, and their impact on system resources and performance

About the Role
What you’ll do
- Implement core features of the Collaboration Engine and the Broadcast Application to ensure the AI History use case is production-ready by the end of Q1
- Develop and optimize gRPC streaming support (unary, bidi, and server-side) within the collaboration proxy to enable complex real-time data flows
- Build out the Application & Server Registry, enabling discovery and routing for new services like the CIS "live updates" dashboard
- Execute the rollout of connection multiplexing between the RTC Gateway and application servers to improve system efficiency and scale
- Write high-concurrency code in Java/Kotlin to manage WebSocket transport paths and ensure low-latency real-time client connectivity
- Partner with AI and Platform teams to integrate their services with the Engine, ensuring high reliability and 99.9% uptime
What you’ll need
- Strong proficiency in Java or Kotlin, with a solid grasp of multithreading and JVM performance
- Practical experience building and maintaining high-load distributed systems or microservices
- Hands-on experience working with WebSockets and gRPC for real-time data transport
- Familiarity with concurrency patterns and the ability to debug complex, stateful application issues
- Ability to translate technical requirements into clean, testable code that integrates with complex backend proxies
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with partner teams on API definitions and service integrations

What you’ll need
- 5+ years of experience building frontend applications with modern languages, frameworks, and technologies.
- Strong computer science fundamentals, including architecture and modern development practices.
- Proven ability to decompose product requirements into technical designs, with expertise in unit, integration, and acceptance testing to ensure high code quality.
- Understanding of non-functional requirements, including performance, security, and memory management, and their impact on coding and architecture.
- Critical thinking and system-level mindset: balances short-term needs with long-term goals, investigates root causes, and makes informed decisions collaboratively.
- Experience in agile, cross-functional teams within fast-paced environments, with curiosity, strong collaboration skills, and openness to learn from successes and failures.
- Excellent communication skills in English (upper-intermediate or higher) and a passion for delivering high-quality software.
- Additional plus: Experience working on platform teams.
