Recursion is leading an era of autonomous science – iterating across the discovery process, leveraging machine learning and agents built-for-purpose to uncover novel insights across biology and chemistry, fueling our clinical-stage pipeline. As the Senior Product Manager for Agentic Science, you will sit at the intersection of drug discovery and AI, serving as the critical translator between our scientific teams and the agentic systems they depend on. Your primary focus will be on outcomes: ensuring our agents impact Recursion’s pipeline through demonstrably accelerating discovery.

This role is not about maintaining a static roadmap; it is about navigating the frontier of a rapidly evolving field. You will partner closely with drug discovery scientists to understand their workflows, translate their needs into agent task definitions, and design and maintain the benchmarks that -ensure our agents are driving value. As the field evolves rapidly, you will help the team distinguish real scientific progress from superficially promising results.

In this role, you will:

• Champion Benchmarking for Agentic Science: Drive alignment across scientific and technical teams around evaluation frameworks that measure agent performance against scientifically meaningful outcomes, continuously refining them as the field evolves.
• Drive Outcome-Focused Product Development: Keep the team anchored to what matters: building agents that meaningfully advance drug discovery programs, not just executing tasks.
• Evangelize the "Human-in-the-loop" Evolution: Work with scientific stakeholders to define interfaces where humans review, validate, and shape agent reasoning, ensuring our scientists evolve from "operators" to "architects" of discovery.
• Monitor the Competitive Benchmark Landscape: Track how leading organizations across pharma AI, biotech, and foundation model research are measuring agentic performance. Ensure Recursion's evaluation frameworks stay calibrated against external standards, so our benchmarks reflect genuine scientific progress rather than internally optimized metrics.

The Team You’ll Join 

You will join a cross-functional team of software engineers, data scientists, AI/ML scientists and drug discovery biologists and chemists who build the technical bedrock that enables autonomous science, including agent orchestration, guardrails, and the connectivity between our digital and physical assets. You will work closely with the Discovery teams (the users of these agents), the AI Research teams (who build cutting-edge models), and our automated biology and chemistry lab teams (who generate the data that feeds into the models).

The Experience You’ll Need

• Background in Drug Discovery or AI-driven Science: You have direct experience working in drug discovery, biotech, or AI-driven scientific research. Ideally, you will have worked hands-on with agentic systems (or agents) in a scientific context. You can credibly partner with PhD-level scientists and translate between scientific goals and technical systems without losing fidelity on either side.
• Fluency in Modern AI: You don't need to be an engineer, but you follow the AI landscape closely and understand how LLMs and agentic systems actually work in practice. Bonus points if you've benchmarked an agent(s) or worked hands-on with agentic tools, even outside a formal work context.
• Experimentation-First Mindset: You have a natural instinct for working through rapid prototyping cycles, whether in a product, research, or scientific context. You'd rather run a quick experiment than write a long spec.
• Systems Thinking: You can hold the big picture in mind while working in the details. You think naturally about how multiple agents interact, where they hand off to each other, and where humans need to be in the loop to catch errors, validate outputs, or make judgment calls that agents can't.

Communication & Influence: Strong written and oral skills to align diverse stakeholders (PhDs in Biology, ML and software engineers, AI Researchers) around a unified technical vision.

Working Location & Compensation:

This is an office-based, hybrid position at one of our offices in either Salt Lake City, Utah or New York City, New York. Employees are expected to work in the office at least 50% of the time.

At Recursion, we believe that every employee should be compensated fairly. Based on the skill and level of experience required for this role, the estimated current annual base range for this role is $142,500 - $220,500. You will also be eligible for an annual bonus and equity compensation, as well as a comprehensive benefits package.

Your Mission: 

We are evolving how we sell. As we sharpen our ICP and move upmarket, Sales Engineering is no longer just a post-discovery support function; it is a critical driver of deal quality, demo experience, and ultimately, revenue.

Your mission is to build and lead a high-performing Sales Engineering team that actively helps win deals. You will operate as a hands-on player-coach, stepping directly into strategic opportunities to elevate demos, shape deal strategy, and improve close rates. At the same time, you will scale the function, raising the bar on performance, building repeatable processes, and strengthening how we partner with Sales, Product, and Product Marketing.

This role sits at the center of Sales, Product, and Customer Success, with direct impact on how we position value to Mid-Market and Enterprise customers. You will report into Sales leadership and collaborate closely with AEs, PMM, and Product teams. This is a highly collaborative role that requires strong presence during core working hours. Strong preference for candidates based in Toronto or Utah.

• Increase win rates: Improve demos, objection handling, and value positioning to drive stronger deal outcomes
• Be a player-coach: Step into high-impact deals, run demos, and coach AEs/SEs in real time
• Elevate demo quality: Build repeatable, compelling, and use-case-driven demo frameworks tied to business value
• Raise team performance: Coach the team on discovery, storytelling, and technical depth while setting a high bar for execution
• Build and scale the team: Hire and develop strong SEs to support Mid-Market and Enterprise growth
• Improve sales execution: Identify friction in the sales cycle and implement scalable process improvements
• Stay close to product: Maintain deep product fluency and translate features into clear customer value
• Influence roadmap: Bring structured field insights to Product and PMM to improve positioning and UX

• Experienced SE leader: 3+ years in Sales Engineering / Solutions Engineering, with 1+ years of management experience in a B2B SaaS environment

What you will do:

• Act as the strategic point of contact and embed within key retention & experience functions (e.g., Client Success, Product, People Operations, IT, and Facilities) to identify where internal workflows are failing and where our tech stack can be better leveraged to drive results.
• Evaluate competing requests against technical effort and business impact to help leadership manage a high-value, transparent roadmap.
• Take broad business “asks” and refine them into clear, actionable requirements. You have the fluency to spot potential system conflicts or data integrity risks before they hit the development phase.
• Define the requirements and logic for new system features that solve root business problems.
• Translate solutions into clear, actionable Jira tickets for the Systems team. You ensure technical nuance and edge case is documented and that every ticket has the necessary context and “Definition of Done” before it hits a builder’s queue.
• Act as the “glue” between the requesting department and the Systems team. You manage the project timeline, unblock technical questions, and ensure the final delivery meets the original business need.
• Lead the “Definition of Done” by facilitating User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and ensuring every technical rollout meets Awardco’s standards of excellence.
• Own the “last mile” of delivery. You’ll lead the training and communication required to ensure that when a new technical process goes live, it is adopted and understood by the team.

What you will bring:

• 6+ years of experience managing the intersection of business process and technical systems (e.g., TPM, Business Systems, or Implementation Engineering) in a high-growth SaaS environment.
• Hands-on experience leading Salesforce-centric projects, with a solid understanding of Salesforce objects, automation capabilities, and its role as a central business engine.
• A strong grasp of integrated tech stacks, API logic, and data modeling; you can hold your own in a room with developers and admins without writing the code yourself.
• You are a "full-stack" operator who can pivot from a technical system discussion to a high-level business strategy session without missing a beat.
• The ability to simplify complex technical concepts for non-technical leaders while providing the necessary detail for technical teams to execute.
• Demonstrated ability to move complex projects through a full lifecycle—from a messy discovery phase to a polished, live, and automated solution.
• Proven ability to question the “status quo” and manage stakeholder expectations when a request doesn’t align with technical best practices or broader business goals.
• Mastery of Jira for backlog management and project tracking in a fast-paced agile or hybrid environment.
• A self-starter who demonstrates extreme ownership, maintains a positive attitude, and is regarded as a trustworthy, efficient partner across all departments.
