Software Engineer, Code Generation
MongoDB is building a world-class team in North America to create tooling that helps customers modernize their applications and migrate their data from legacy relational databases to MongoDB in real-time. As companies modernise legacy workloads and data ecosystems, they are increasingly drawn to the flexibility and scalability of the document model. The tools developed by the Code Generation and Data Migration team are critical in this journey, helping customers with schema modeling, code generation, initial data loads, and continuous data synchronization.
We're looking for a Senior Engineer with a strong background in computer science fundamentals, systems design, experience in the Java ecosystem, streaming systems, and data-intensive applications to join our engineering team. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, building, and optimizing the underlying data structures, algorithms, and database interactions that power our generative AI platform, code generation and migration tools. This involves crafting sophisticated orchestration layers, robust integration points, and high-performance data systems that seamlessly connect and leverage advanced AI capabilities for code generation and building a sophisticated data migration suite using a modern technology stack, which includes Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, Debezium, and React.You will work on critical components that ensure the scalability, efficiency, and reliability of our services, collaborating closely with AI researchers, product management and other engineers to design and implement cutting-edge products that solve complex customer challenges.
This role will be based out of North America in the PST and MST zones only.
The ideal candidate for this role will have
- 2+ years of engineering experience in backend systems, distributed systems, or core platform development
- Experience in one or several of Java, Rust, C/C++, and/or Python, with a strong understanding of systems-level programming, memory management, and performance tuning
- Experience with streaming data platforms such as Apache Kafka and Change Data Capture (CDC) tools like Debezium
- Experience with relational data modeling and hands-on experience with at least one SQL database (Postgres, MySQL, etc)
- Exposure to client-side technologies such as JavaScript and React is a plus
- Good understanding of algorithms, data structures and their time and space complexity
- Curiosity, a positive attitude, and a drive to continue learning
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with cloud-native distributed systems (e.g., Kubernetes)
- Experience with NoSQL databases and understanding of their trade-offs is great, but not required. We'll teach you NoSQL
- Contributions to relevant open-source projects
Position Expectations
- Contribute high-quality, well-tested backend code to the data migration engine and core components of our generative AI orchestration platform
- Collaborate effectively with Product Management, AI researchers and machine learning engineers and designers to build and deliver on the product roadmap
- Work to develop robust and efficient backend services that orchestrate AI functionalities
- Identify and address performance bottlenecks and architectural challenges in our systems, particularly within data flow and orchestration
- Participate actively in code reviews to enforce best practices and patterns
- Help troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in our distributed systems
- Give and solicit feedback on technical design documents and pull requests
- Perform tasks related to process such as CI/CD, quality, testing, etc
Success Measures
Within the first three months, you will have:
- Familiarize yourself with the MongoDB database and aggregation language
- Familiarize yourself with the backend tech stack including Java, Spring Boot, and Kafka
- Set up software development infrastructure (tech stack, build tools, etc) to enable development using the relevant tech stacks
- Started collaborating with your peers and contributed to code reviews
Within six months, you will have:
- Familiarised yourself with the rest of our the application modernization tool stack
- Delivered at least one large scale feature that spans the entire tech stack
- Reviewed and contributed to scope and technical design documents
Within 12 months, you will have:
- Become a key contributor to our backend stack, capable of taking on complex features independently
- Helped recruit and interview new members of the team
- Collaborated effectively with other teams at MongoDB on cross-functional projects

ABOUT THIS ROLE
As a Senior Embedded Software Engineer at LVT, you will be a key architect in the evolution of our hardware-software ecosystem. You will design, build, and test the mission-critical software that powers our intelligent mobile units, ensuring they operate with elite precision in the physical world. This role is based in-office out of our Headquarters in American Fork, Utah.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a division of software engineers. Help set the technical direction, define best practices, and drive the adoption of modern software engineering methodologies and technologies.
Architecture and Design: Collaborate with architects and other senior engineers to design scalable and robust software solutions. Review and provide guidance on system architecture, design patterns, and technology choices. Drive technical excellence and ensure adherence to coding standards.
Technical Expertise: Maintain a deep understanding of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in software engineering. Stay up to date with advancements in the field and proactively identify opportunities to leverage new technologies for improved product development.
Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as product management, quality assurance, and operations to ensure seamless integration and successful delivery of software products. Foster effective communication channels and promote a culture of collaboration and knowledge sharing.

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical/Computer Engineering or a related field.
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a focus on embedded development.
- Object-oriented and embedded-system design experience.
- Strong expertise in C and C++.
- GoLang experience desired.
- Strong expertise in Embedded Linux, RTOS (Zephyr a plus).
- Excellent problem-solving, debugging, and analytical skills, with the ability to navigate complex technical challenges.

- Define and lead product security strategy across web, mobile, API, cloud, infrastructure, and container security — conducting threat modeling, risk assessments, and security reviews throughout the development lifecycle with a strong shift-left focus.
- Embed secure development practices by designing and implementing secure coding standards, encryption, and security testing methodologies in close collaboration with development and ML teams, ensuring products are secure, resilient, and trustworthy.
- Own Enterprise AI Security end-to-end — from securing LLM integrations, agentic pipelines, and ML model ingestion to defending against AI-specific threats (prompt injection, data poisoning, model extraction, RAG poisoning, ), building AI incident response playbooks, and red-teaming AI systems across Recursion's product surfaces.
- Secure the AI supply chain and MLOps infrastructure by vetting third-party foundation models, open-source weights, and AI APIs before production integration, and partnering with ML engineering to protect training pipelines, feature stores, and model serving endpoints.
- Champion compliance and AI governance by operationalizing frameworks such as OWASP LLM Top 10, MITRE ATLAS, NIST AI RMF, and EU AI Act requirements — collaborating with legal, privacy, and responsible AI teams to support audits and evolving regulatory expectations.
- Scale security as a force multiplier by evaluating and deploying security tooling, detecting policy violations, driving security outcomes, and ensuring security initiatives never become a bottleneck to business objectives.
- Elevate the security culture across the organization by serving as a subject matter expert, mentoring engineering teams, and leading incident response efforts from investigation through mitigation and prevention.
- Maintain the security foundation through thorough documentation — including security requirements, guidelines, and incident response plans — and hands-on penetration testing and code reviews to simulate and get ahead of real-world threats.

- You will join a growing Information Security team at Recursion, focused on enabling Recursion to decode biology by providing world class technology services that are designed and fit for purpose. You'll collaborate with your teammates and across departments to agree on what the most important challenges and capabilities are, then figure out how to get us there.
The Experience You'll Need
- Education & Tenure: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field, with 10+ years of experience in product security or application security and a proven track record securing complex products.
- Security Fundamentals: Deep understanding of security principles, threats, and countermeasures as they relate to product design and development, with familiarity across standards and frameworks including OWASP, NIST, ISO/IEC 27001, and CVSS-based vulnerability prioritization.
- Offensive Security & Penetration Testing: Hands-on proficiency with penetration testing frameworks and tools (Metasploit, Burp Suite, Nmap, Wireshark), web application attack techniques (SQL injection, XSS, CSRF, OWASP Top Ten), and the ability to simulate real-world attacks and assess their impact.
- Secure Development & Engineering: Expertise in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, C++) with strong command of secure coding practices, encryption standards, and integrating security tooling into CI/CD and development workflows.
- Enterprise AI Security: Demonstrated experience securing AI/ML systems and LLM-powered or agentic products in production — including familiarity with AI attack surfaces (prompt injection, data poisoning, model extraction, membership inference, RAG poisoning) and hands-on red-teaming of AI pipelines and agentic workflows.
- AI Frameworks & Supply Chain Risk: Working knowledge of AI security frameworks (OWASP LLM Top 10, MITRE ATLAS, NIST AI RMF, EU AI Act) and experience vetting third-party foundation models, open-source weights, and AI APIs as part of a structured supply chain security program.
- MLOps & Model Security: Familiarity with securing ML infrastructure — including training pipelines, experiment tracking, model registries, and inference endpoints — and designing least-privilege access controls for AI agents with external system or tool access.
- Leadership & Communication: Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to drive security initiatives across engineering, legal, privacy, and executive stakeholders and mentor teams on security best practices.

Working Location & Compensation:
Making SLC your home base is ideal, however, we will consider remote work for this position. We ask that remote employees commit to regular on-site visits for routine work and departmental events.
At Recursion, we believe that every employee should be compensated fairly. Based on the skill and level of experience required for this role, the estimated current annual base range for this role is $186,900 to $220,400 (USD). You will also be eligible for an annual bonus and equity compensation, as well as a comprehensive benefits package.
