What You'll Do

As a TDiA, you will use your animation sense and technical understanding of character animation to design and create gameplay animation systems that facilitate appealing, high-quality character motion. This role is open to multiple locations in North America (excluding CA, NY, MA & WA). 

As a Technical Designer – Game Systems, you will develop and integrate intricate technical and systemic design components into the game. Acting as a technical resource for the Game Design team, you will provide help, support, and advice to your peers as needed, and serve as a bridge between the Game Design, Level Design and Engineering teams. You may also be called upon to become the project's technical expert on a specific aspect of the game.

Responsibilities

• Work alongside Game Systems Technical Directors, Programmers, and professionals from various disciplines to develop and execute the technical components of a game feature.
• Serve as a technical expert on a specific subject, manage tools and documentation, offer technical support, and establish and advocate for best practices.
• Prototype gameplay features and perform production tasks within the game and game design team.
• Design and implement more complex and technically challenging elements in the design of the game.
• Regularly offer feedback to the team, including recommendations for enhancing tools and methods.
• Assist in testing new features and tools prior to their release.
• Assist with data optimization and validation, keeping budget limitations in mind and ensuring adherence to technical standards.
• Participate in the troubleshooting and fixing of data errors and bugs throughout production.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in game design/development.
• A university or college degree in computer science, game design/development, or equivalent game development experience.
• Familiarity with State Trees and combat design.
• Familiarity with Unreal Engine 5 or similar engines.
• Good Communication skills. Able to understand and conveying technical concepts, with the ability to clearly articulate ideas both verbally and in writing.
• Flexibility along with a solid foundation in analysis and problem-solving.

Les compétences que nous recherchons:

What will you be doing: 

• Artistic Leadership and Vision: Collaborate with the Art Director to define and implement the artistic direction for game levels, ensuring environments are visually striking, authentic to historical China, and balanced with gameplay functionality. Contribute innovative ideas to shape the visual style, drawing inspiration from Chinese history, culture, movies, and art. 
• Research and Cultural Authenticity: Conduct research into historical Chinese geography, architecture, and cultural elements to ensure authenticity in level design. Use reference materials to guide artistic license while maintaining a unique and engaging aesthetic. 
• Environment Production: Oversee the end-to-end production pipeline for level art, from concept to final polish, creating lush, pixel-perfect levels that support Blood Message’s realistic visual style. Ensure environments enhance exploration, storytelling, and gameplay mechanics like traditional combat and traversal. 
• Narrative-Driven Design: Work with Level Designers, narrative teams, and the Art Director to craft environments that support storytelling through details, lighting, composition, and contrast, conveying emotional and narrative depth aligned with the game’s themes. 
• Team Leadership and Mentorship: Lead and mentor a team of level artists, providing constructive feedback, setting quality standards, and fostering a collaborative environment. Act as a bridge between the Art Director and the team to maintain visual consistency, manage workloads, and meet project milestones. 
• Pipeline and Workflow Development: Establish and maintain efficient art pipelines and workflows for level creation, optimization, and integration into Unreal Engine 5. Contribute innovative ideas to streamline processes and ensure seamless collaboration with the China-based studio. 
• Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Foster communication and collaboration with Level Designers, programmers, animators, and QA teams to balance gameplay mechanics and visual storytelling. Participate in production meetings to identify, prioritize, and distribute tasks, ensuring a smooth workflow and alignment with the China studio’s objectives.

The skills we’re looking for:

Experience: 5+ years in a Lead Level Artist or similar role, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality levels for AAA titles. 8+ years of overall game development experience is a plus, especially with historical or culturally specific settings. 

Technical Skills: 

• Proficiency in 3D software (e.g., Blender, 3ds Max, ZBrush) and game engines (e.g., Unreal Engine 5, Unity). 
• Strong understanding of level design principles, environmental storytelling, gameplay flow optimization, and asset optimization for performance across platforms. 
• Expertise in lighting, color theory, composition, and technical constraints like memory and frame rate optimization. 

Artistic Skills: Exceptional artistic vision with a keen eye for composition, lighting, and color theory, capable of creating immersive, culturally authentic environments that balance realism and gameplay needs. 

Leadership: Proven leadership and mentorship skills, with experience managing teams, providing feedback, and maintaining schedules. Ability to act as a bridge between the Art Director and the team, fostering collaboration and communication.

Generalist Content Technical Director

As a Generalist Content Technical Director on one of our projects at NetEase Games Montreal, you will play a pivotal role in leading our local codev data centric technical team to deliver high-quality game experiences. Leveraging your extensive experience in game development, particularly with Unreal Engine, you will provide technical guidance, mentorship, and leadership to our talented team of developers. You will be responsible for ensuring our local teams properly apply data specific technical and production guidelines, overcoming challenges, ensuring the successful delivery of our project.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Leadership and Mentorship:

Senior Modeler

Join us on our journey and help us create our next unannounced linear adventure game which is set in historical China and features a realistic visual style and authentic traditional combat gameplay. The project is making use of Unreal Engine 5 and is co-developed in collaboration between Montreal/Toronto and our main studio in China. 

We are looking for a Senior Modeler to support our production teams. The candidate must have solid experience of Level Art and modeling.  

Key Responsibilities: 

• Work with the Art Lead and other stakeholders to understand asset requirements, stylistic direction, and reference quality.
• Collaborate closely with Level Artists by supplying modular kits, props, and hero assets that support level design needs.
• Communicate effectively with Tech Art (Hangzhou) to ensure assets comply with pipeline standards and engine constraints.
• Contribute to the development and documentation of asset creation workflows and modeling best practices.
• Assist in troubleshooting pipeline issues related to materials, shaders, asset integration, or tools.
• Experience of creating organic assets (rocks, wood Branches, Buddha Status etc) is a plus  

Qualifications:

The anticipated annual base salary range for this position is $65,000–$100,000. Individual compensation within this range is determined based on job-related factors such as experience, skills, level of responsibility, internal equity, and business needs.
