Get to Know our Team
In Agoda’s Back End Engineering department, we build the scalable, fault-tolerant systems and APIs that host our core business logic. Our systems cover all major areas of our business: inventory and pricing, product information, customer data, communications, partner data, booking systems, payments, and more. These mission-critical systems change frequently with dozens of releases per day, so we must employ state-of-the-art CI/CD and testing techniques in order to make sure everything works without any downtime. We also ensure that our systems are self-healing, responding gracefully to extreme loads or unexpected input. In order to accomplish this, we use state-of-the-art languages like Scala and Go, data technologies like Kafka and Aerospike, and agile development practices. Most importantly though, we hire great people from all around the world and empower them to be successful. Whether it’s building new projects like Flights and Packages or reimagining our existing business, you’ll make a big impact as part of the Back End Engineering team.
In this Role, you'll get to:
- Architect and develop highly scalable, mission-critical backend systems, owning major parts of Agoda’s platform from long-term vision down to implementation details.
- Write exemplary code, raise the engineering bar, and provide hands-on technical leadership that positively impacts 40+ engineers.
- Define architecture for critical systems and lead large-scale cross-team initiatives that improve service quality, code quality, and technical design.
- Drive organization-wide excellence in observability, testing, debugging, and software quality through strong engineering fundamentals and data-informed decisions.
- Identify and implement optimizations across the stack to improve cost, efficiency, delivery velocity, and developer happiness.
- Foster inclusive collaboration, unblock teams, influence technical roadmaps, and clearly communicate complex technical trade-offs to business stakeholders and senior leadership.
What you'll Need to Succeed:
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with deep hands-on technical expertise and strong architectural leadership.
- Proven ability to design and evolve architecture across multiple teams, platforms, or critical system domains.
- Strong experience owning production services end-to-end, including design, development, deployment, monitoring, and long-term evolution.
- Demonstrated success leading large-scale technical initiatives in complex engineering organizations.
- Expertise in software quality practices, testing strategy, engineering metrics, observability, debugging, system reliability, and operational excellence.
- Strong backend engineering skills, with proficiency in languages such as Kotlin, Scala, or Java.
- Broad engineering understanding beyond backend, including awareness of trade-offs across frontend, mobile, and data analytics.
- Curiosity and passion for staying up to date with new technologies, technical improvements, and open-source advancements.
- Ability to perform deep research, evaluate complex problems, and make sound technical decisions.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical details and trade-offs to stakeholders at all levels.
- Proven ability to influence technical direction without relying solely on formal authority.
- Track record of mentoring engineers, fostering collaboration, and building a culture of feedback and continuous improvement.
- Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively, with the ability to balance strategic thinking and hands-on execution.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

The Opportunity
We are seeking a Principal Engineer to drive innovation across our AI-powered data experience and platform infrastructure.
This role combines leading the development of AI-powered data querying — enabling users to ask business questions in natural language and receive actionable insights — while shaping the evolution of our data quality tools, and analytical engines such as StarRocks.
As a senior technical leader, you will operate across AI, data infrastructure, and reliability domains, driving high-impact initiatives and serving as a key technical authority across the organization.
This position is based in Bangkok, Thailand. (Relocation support is provided)
In this Role, you'll get to:
- Lead the development of AI-powered data querying solutions, enabling users to ask business questions in natural language and receive actionable insights.
- Architect and develop scalable data quality tools and frameworks to ensure reliable and trustworthy data.
- Act as a hands-on technical leader, tackling complex challenges across AI query engines, data quality systems, and analytical engines.
- Collaborate with TPMs and stakeholders to define and drive the technical vision and roadmap for AI-driven querying, query engines, and data quality tools.
- Mentor engineers and raise standards across data quality & governance tools, query engines, and the broader data platform.
What you'll Need to Succeed:
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, or related fields
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- SQL and large-scale data systems
- Modern analytical databases / data warehouses (e.g., StarRocks, Snowflake, BigQuery, ClickHouse)
- Backend development (e.g., Python, Java, Scala or similar)
- Experience building or working with:
- AI/LLM-based applications (e.g., text-to-SQL, conversational interfaces, cursor, copilots)
- Data platforms or analytical infrastructure at scale
- Strong understanding of data modeling, query execution, and performance optimization
- Proven ability to lead cross-team, high-impact technical initiatives
- Ability to navigate between deep hands-on work and strategic technical leadership
- Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

- Experience with text-to-SQL systems or AI-driven data interfaces

In Agoda’s Back End Engineering department, we build the scalable, fault-tolerant systems and APIs that host our core business logic. Our systems cover all major areas of our business: inventory and pricing, product information, customer data, communications, partner data, booking systems, payments, and more. These mission-critical systems change frequently with dozens of releases per day, so we must employ state-of-the-art CI/CD and testing techniques in order to make sure everything works without any downtime. We also ensure that our systems are self-healing, responding gracefully to extreme loads or unexpected input. In order to accomplish this, we use state-of-the-art languages like Scala and Go, data technologies like Kafka and Aerospike, and agile development practices. Most importantly though, we hire great people from all around the world and empower them to be successful. Whether it’s building new projects like Flights and Packages or reimagining our existing business, you’ll make a big impact as part of the Back End Engineering team.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a Principal Engineer to drive innovation across our AI-powered data experience and platform infrastructure.
This role combines leading the development of AI-powered data querying — enabling users to ask business questions in natural language and receive actionable insights — while shaping the evolution of our data quality tools, and analytical engines such as StarRocks.
As a senior technical leader, you will operate across AI, data infrastructure, and reliability domains, driving high-impact initiatives and serving as a key technical authority across the organization.
This position is based in Bangkok, Thailand. (Relocation support is provided)
In this Role, you'll get to:
- Lead the development of AI-powered data querying solutions, enabling users to ask business questions in natural language and receive actionable insights.
- Architect and develop scalable data quality tools and frameworks to ensure reliable and trustworthy data.
- Act as a hands-on technical leader, tackling complex challenges across AI query engines, data quality systems, and analytical engines.
- Collaborate with TPMs and stakeholders to define and drive the technical vision and roadmap for AI-driven querying, query engines, and data quality tools.
- Mentor engineers and raise standards across data quality & governance tools, query engines, and the broader data platform.
What you'll Need to Succeed:
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, or related fields
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- SQL and large-scale data systems
- Modern analytical databases / data warehouses (e.g., StarRocks, Snowflake, BigQuery, ClickHouse)
- Backend development (e.g., Python, Java, Scala or similar)
- Experience building or working with:
- AI/LLM-based applications (e.g., text-to-SQL, conversational interfaces, cursor, copilots)
- Data platforms or analytical infrastructure at scale
- Strong understanding of data modeling, query execution, and performance optimization
- Proven ability to lead cross-team, high-impact technical initiatives
- Ability to navigate between deep hands-on work and strategic technical leadership
- Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
It's Great if you have:
- Experience with text-to-SQL systems or AI-driven data interfaces
- Experience implementing or scaling analytical engines such as StarRocks
- Background in data observability, quality, or governance frameworks

The Data department oversees all Agoda’s data-related requirements. Our goal is to enable and increase the use of data in the company through creative approaches and the implementation of powerful resources such as operational and analytical databases, queue systems, BI tools, and data science technology. The Opportunity:
As BI Manager, you will lead a new scrum team dedicated to supporting the B2B entity. Your team will own the end-to-end process of designing, building, and operating the B2B data lake and its associated data products, enabling financial reporting, operational analytics, and data-driven decision making across the organization. You will partner closely with Finance, Planning, Revenue Operations, Data Engineering, and Analytics stakeholders to ensure that data is discoverable, auditable, performant, and fully aligned with organizational and financial reporting requirements.
What You’ll Do:
- Own the full lifecycle for the data lake: ingestion, storage, cataloging, transformation, validation, and access provisioning.
- Define the data model, schema standards, and partitioning/retention strategies that support financial reporting, forecasting, and partner operations analytics.
- Establish and enforce data governance, lineage, and auditability practices critical for financial reporting (including source-to-target traceability and reconciliation).
- Implement scalable ingestion pipelines from multiple upstream systems (transactions, bookings, settlements, partner contracts) ensuring timeliness and correctness for reporting cycles.
- Build and maintain transformation pipelines (ETL/ELT) to create clean, reproducible datasets and aggregated marts used by reports and planners.
- Lead the team’s dashboard vision and quality, leading design reviews and making strategic decisions that shape how the business consumes data.
- Drive performance and cost-efficiency for the data lake: query optimization, data compaction, caching layers, and lifecycle policies to meet performance SLAs.
- Set up automated data quality checks, reconciliation jobs, and alerts, to surface anomalies before they impact reports.
- Provide self-serve data access patterns and APIs for analytics teams, planners, and finance consumers while enforcing role-based access and separation of duties.
- Collaborate with Finance and other business stakeholders to translate reporting requirements into deliverable data products and schedule data delivery aligned with financial close and planning cadences.
- Lead sprint planning, backlog prioritization, and delivery governance for the scrum; hire and mentor engineers and data stewards for the team.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years experience building and operating data platforms, data lakes, or large-scale data pipelines; 3+ years in a leadership or engineering lead role.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Scala, or Java) for ETL/ELT development and data validation.
- Experience with large scale data platforms (Hadoop, Impala, Spark, Vertica)
- Experience with data storage and processing technologies such as Delta Lake, Apache Iceberg, Hive, S3/GCS, Spark, Presto/Trino, or equivalent cloud data lake components.
- Solid understanding of data modelling for analytics and financial reporting (star schemas, slowly changing dimensions, partitioning, compaction).
- Demonstrated experience implementing data governance, data lineage, cataloguing (e.g., AWS Glue, Data Catalog, Amundsen), and role-based access control to meet audit and compliance requirements.
- Hands-on experience with orchestration and workflow tools such as Airflow, Prefect, or similar for scheduling and dependency management.
- Proven ability to design and run data quality frameworks (reconciliation, anomaly detection, SLA monitoring) with automated alerting.
- Experience with performance optimization for large datasets: partitioning, indexing, caching, query tuning, and cost-management strategies.
- Leadership in dashboard strategy, driving quality and experience in running effective design reviews, making strategic decisions that shape data consumption.
- Strong stakeholder management skills — able to translate finance and operations requirements into prioritized data products and delivery plans.
- Excellent communication skills in English — able to produce clear documentation, lead cross-functional reviews, and present to finance stakeholders.
- Problem-solving mindset, attention to detail, and commitment to data accuracy and auditability for financial reporting.
- Experience hiring, mentoring, and developing engineers/data stewards; ability to build a culture of ownership and operational excellence.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Snowflake and familiarity with Snowflake-specific features (clustering keys, materialized views, Time Travel, zero-copy cloning)
- Experience with software development processes for Agile/Scrum and CI/CD utilizing technologies such as GIT, Jenkins, Terraform
- Analytics, business intelligence, or data visualization experience
- Knowledge of compliance and audit requirements for reporting systems.

Get to Know Our Team
This role is part of Agoda’s Display & App Marketing engineering team, focused on building and improving large-scale systems that power paid marketing across global advertising channels, including Display Ads and App Install campaigns.
Our systems handle high-volume hotel feeds (price, availability, content), image processing for advertisements, advertising platform integrations (Google Ads, Meta, etc.), and data pipelines that support experimentation and optimization.
You will work closely with Marketing, Product, and Data teams to deliver reliable, efficient, and scalable engineering solutions, with strong exposure to marketing strategy, experimentation, and real business impact. The team is growing and evolving, giving you the opportunity to shape systems and ways of working end-to-end—from design and implementation to operational excellence at global scale.
In this Role, you will get to
1. Design, build, and operate backend services and data pipelines that support performance marketing use cases, including hotel feeds, ad platform integrations, and experiment data
2. Contribute to technical design discussions and drive implementation of production systems running at scale
3. Take part in the full development lifecycle: design, implementation, testing, deployment, and production support
4. Proactively identify and improve system reliability, scalability, data quality, and operational efficiency
5 Write clear, maintainable code and actively participate in code reviews and technical discussions
6. Collaborate with Product, Marketing, and other Engineering teams to clarify requirements and deliver effective solutions
7. Support and improve the team’s engineering standards, including CI/CD, monitoring, and documentation
8. Make technical trade-offs across performance, quality, and cost
9. Participate in hiring, onboarding, and knowledge sharing, in line with your experience and interests
What You’ll need to Succeed

The Opportunity:
In this role, you will not only develop robust backend systems but also architect and maintain scalable data pipelines and storage solutions that support complex data collection, processing, and analysis. Your dual expertise in backend and data engineering will play a crucial role in optimizing our financial technology solutions and driving informed business decisions through reliable data insights..
This role is a 6-month contract based in Bangkok, Thailand and the succeeded candidate will be assigned to the project.
In this role, you'll get to:
- Think and own the full life cycle of our products, not just a single piece of code – from business requirements, technology selection, coding standards, agile development, unit and application testing, to CI/CD and proper monitoring
- Design, develop and maintain platforms and data pipelines
- Boost System Performance: build systems that are stable, scalable, and highly performant to meet the dynamic demands of the data platform landscape
- Write great code and help others write great code – mentor people in your team and wider
- Collaborate with other teams and departments
- Exceptional problem-solving skills coupled with a strategic mindset are essential. You possess the ability to adapt to new changes and the foresight to anticipate future needs. Leadership at Agoda isn’t just managing tasks but inspiring innovation and driving vision into reality

What You'll Need to Succeed:
- experience in Java, Scala and Python. Experience with big data technologies like Hadoop, real-time processing frameworks (e.g., Apache Spark), and advanced knowledge of SQL and data architecture
- Thinks in systems: their edge cases, failure modes, and life cycles
- Uses a metrics driven approach and can make informed decisions using data
- You are passionate about the craft of software development and constantly work to improve your knowledge and skills
- Experience with Scrum/Agile development methodologies
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
- Experience with operational excellence and a deep understanding of metrics, alarms and dashboards
It's Great if you have:
- Have knowledge about database high availability or query performance tuning
- Knowledge of Docker or Kubernetes

Get to Know Our Team
Fintech is one of the fastest growing areas in Agoda and we are rapidly expanding our tech team. We work closely with the finance business team and our Fintech product owners to reduce risk, drive efficiencies and move on new market opportunities in this exciting field. We have a wide range of projects from traditional finance to cutting-edge customer fintech. For example, reconciliation using Big Data technologies, growing and optimizing customer payments options, tax calculations in milli-second response times and a mesh of supplier payment options like virtual credit cards. It’s a hot field and the perfect mix of data engineering and backend engineering.

Get to Know our Team
In Agoda’s Back-End Engineering department, we build scalable, fault-tolerant systems and APIs that host our core business logic. Our systems cover all major areas of our business: inventory and pricing, product information, customer data, communications, partner data, booking systems, payments, and more. We employ state-of-the-art CI/CD and testing techniques to ensure everything works without downtime. Our systems are self-healing, responding gracefully to extreme loads or unexpected input. We use modern languages like Kotlin and Scala, Data technologies Kafka, Spark, MLflow, Kubeflow, VastStorage, StarRocks and agile development practices. The Opportunity
Agoda Platform team is looking for developers to work on mission-critical systems that serve millions of users daily. You will have the chance to work on innovative projects, using cutting-edge technologies, and make a significant impact on our business and the travel industry.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
- 10+ years of experience developing performance-critical applications in a production environment using Scala, Java, Kotlin, C#, Go or relevant modern programming languages.
- Strong RDBMS knowledge (SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, or other).
- Ability to direct significant company-wide projects and sets technical vision.
- Good command of the English language.
- Deeply involved in making architectural decisions, setting the standard and direction for the team.
- Implement advanced CI/CD pipelines and robust testing strategies to ensure seamless integration, deployment, and high code quality.
- Passion for software development and continuous improvement of your knowledge and skills.
It’s Great if You Have
