Get To Know Our Team:
We’re building and operating Agoda’s high‑performance analytics platform that powers BI and product decisioning at scale. Our team partners closely with Data Engineering, BI, and Product to deliver governed, reliable, and cost‑efficient analytical data services. We work hands-on with distributed systems in production, with strong engineering ownership (SLOs, observability, incident response) and the opportunity to contribute back to open source.
The Opportunity:
This role is for an experienced backend engineer to design, build, and operate our StarRocks-based analytics platform. You’ll drive scalable, low‑latency analytical services with high concurrency and sub‑second query performance, while extending StarRocks capabilities and improving platform reliability and efficiency. The scope is open from Senior through Principal, depending on impact and leadership.
What You’ll Do:
- Design, implement, and operate StarRocks clusters to support high concurrency and sub‑second analytical queries at scale.
- Plan and execute StarRocks upgrades and patch rollouts with minimal downtime (canary/blue‑green), including compatibility validation, regression testing, and rollback plans.
- Develop features, extensions, and performance improvements to increase StarRocks stability and throughput; contribute upstream when broadly useful.
- Build backend services and tooling around StarRocks for ingestion, connectors, governance, and observability.
- Optimize query performance using materialized views, partitioning, statistics, and resource groups; make cost/performance trade‑offs.
- Implement multi‑tenant controls, RBAC, auditing, and data protection to ensure governed access.
- Automate operations (provisioning, autoscaling, backup/restore, upgrades) using Kubernetes and Infrastructure as Code.
- Collaborate with Data Engineering, BI, and Product on data modeling and semantic layers.
- Define and monitor SLOs, build dashboards, participate in on‑call rotations, and lead performance/reliability incident response.
Required Qualifications:
- 6+ years of backend engineering and/or distributed systems experience (or equivalent impact).
- Expert proficiency in modern C++ (C++17/20), especially for performance‑critical systems (concurrency, memory management, templates, profiling).
- Strong foundations in algorithms, concurrency, networking, and Linux systems.
- Hands-on experience with at least one MPP/OLAP system such as StarRocks, ClickHouse, Presto/Trino, Druid, Pinot, Doris, Impala, etc.
- Practical expertise in query tuning and columnar analytics concepts (e.g., vectorized execution, statistics, cost-based optimization).
- Proven experience operating distributed systems in production (monitoring, alerting, incident response, capacity planning).
- Experience with containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/Helm/Ansible).
- Strong communication skills and ability to partner effectively across platform, BI, and infrastructure teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Direct experience with StarRocks internals (FE/BE), materialized views, tablet management, and Lakehouse/Iceberg integration.
- Contributions to open-source OLAP/DBMS projects (StarRocks or related ecosystems).
- Experience building streaming ingestion (Kafka, Flink) and batch ingestion (Spark) into OLAP stores.
- Knowledge of data governance, security, and compliance for analytics platforms.
- Familiarity with cloud object storage and Lakehouse table formats (Iceberg, Delta, Hudi) and S3/GCS-compatible storage.
- Deep performance tuning experience (profilers, SIMD/vectorization, CPU/memory optimization).

Get to Know Our Team
The Data department oversees Agoda’s data-related platform and infrastructure capabilities, enabling the company to make better decisions and operate reliably at scale. Our goal is to empower teams across Agoda through resilient, secure, and high-performing systems that support development, deployment, and operations across a complex technology landscape.
Within the department, the platform engineering team is responsible for building and operating critical infrastructure that powers Agoda’s private cloud environment. This includes large-scale Kubernetes platforms across multiple data centers, continuous delivery capabilities, service-to-service connectivity, observability, secrets management, and foundational security controls. We work closely with engineering, security, and infrastructure partners to ensure our platforms are secure, scalable, and easy to use.
As Agoda continues to evolve its platform capabilities, we are also expanding our focus to Platform Identity Access Management (PIAM) — a strategic initiative that will strengthen authentication and authorization across Kubernetes, virtual machines, bare metal servers, laptops, and mobile devices. This work will play a key role in improving platform security, compliance, and operational consistency across the organization.
The Opportunity
As a Senior Lead Engineer, you will drive the architecture, implementation, and operational excellence of Agoda’s private cloud platform while leading strategic initiatives that improve scalability, reliability, security, and delivery velocity across the Data department.
This role is ideal for a highly experienced and deeply hands-on platform engineering leader who thrives on solving complex distributed systems challenges at scale. You will provide technical leadership across large multi-cluster Kubernetes environments, improve deployment and observability capabilities, strengthen secrets and key management practices, and lead Agoda’s Platform Identity Access Management (PIAM) initiative from early architecture through implementation.
This is a senior individual contributor role with significant technical ownership. While you will influence engineering standards and support other engineers, the role is strongly execution-focused and requires substantial hands-on contribution in design, coding, automation, and operational problem solving.
You will work closely with developers, platform teams, security stakeholders, and engineering leaders to shape the future of Agoda’s infrastructure platform and enable teams to build and operate securely and efficiently.
In This Role, You’ll Get To
- Design, lead, and evolve Agoda’s private cloud platform architecture across multiple data centers, with a strong focus on scalability, resilience, performance, and operational excellence.
- Lead the operation and continuous improvement of large-scale Kubernetes environments spanning multiple clusters and regions.
- Drive architectural decisions around cluster networking, service communication, and platform reliability in high-demand distributed environments.
- Contribute directly to the implementation of platform capabilities through hands-on coding, automation, and system design.
- Improve continuous delivery and deployment capabilities to enable reliable, low-friction software releases from source control to production.
- Support and enhance progressive delivery practices such as canary rollouts, deployment health monitoring, and uptime protection.
- Lead the adoption and evolution of service mesh capabilities, including traffic management, service connectivity, and platform observability.
- Define and improve secrets and key management practices using platforms such as HashiCorp Vault, AWS SSM, and KMS, ensuring strong security and audit readiness.
- Drive compliance-aligned infrastructure capabilities to support internal controls, audit requirements, and future financial-grade security expectations.
- Lead the design and execution of Agoda’s Platform Identity Access Management (PIAM) initiative, expanding identity and access controls beyond Kubernetes to cover VMs, bare metal infrastructure, laptops, mobile devices, and other platform connections.
- Partner with security, infrastructure, and engineering stakeholders to gather requirements, define architecture, and develop a roadmap for PIAM implementation.
- Solve complex technical challenges across platform engineering, infrastructure automation, distributed systems, security, and reliability.
- Set a high technical bar through strong engineering judgment, code quality, system design, and operational excellence.
- Capture, document, and share best practices to improve platform consistency, maintainability, and engineering effectiveness.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
- Extensive experience in platform engineering, infrastructure engineering, site reliability engineering, or DevOps roles in large-scale production environments.
- Proven experience in senior, staff, principal, or equivalent technical leadership roles with significant system ownership and architectural responsibility.
- Strong hands-on expertise with Kubernetes and containerized platforms, including operating multi-cluster or multi-region environments at scale.
- Strong software engineering ability with hands-on coding experience in Golang; proficiency in Python, Bash, or Shell scripting is also highly valuable.
- Proven ability to design, build, and operate robust platform systems through code, not only through architecture or coordination.
- Strong experience designing, building, and operating complex distributed systems with high reliability and performance requirements.
- Strong understanding of networking, service-to-service communication, and infrastructure architecture in large distributed environments.
- Experience leading and improving continuous delivery / CI/CD capabilities and deployment workflows for engineering organizations.
- Hands-on experience with service mesh technologies such as Istio, and a solid understanding of traffic management and platform observability patterns.
- Strong experience with secret management, encryption, and platform security controls, including technologies such as HashiCorp Vault, AWS SSM, and KMS or equivalent solutions.
- Experience working with compliance, audit, or security-sensitive infrastructure requirements.

Get to Know our Team
In Agoda’s Back End Engineering department, we build the scalable, fault-tolerant systems and APIs that host our core business logic. Our systems cover all major areas of our business: inventory and pricing, product information, customer data, communications, partner data, booking systems, payments, and more. These mission-critical systems change frequently with dozens of releases per day, so we must employ state-of-the-art CI/CD and testing techniques in order to make sure everything works without any downtime. We also ensure that our systems are self-healing, responding gracefully to extreme loads or unexpected input. In order to accomplish this, we use state-of-the-art languages like Scala and Go, data technologies like Kafka and Aerospike, and agile development practices. Most importantly though, we hire great people from all around the world and empower them to be successful. Whether it’s building new projects like Flights and Packages or reimagining our existing business, you’ll make a big impact as part of the Back End Engineering team.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a Principal Engineer to drive innovation across our AI-powered data experience and platform infrastructure.
This role combines leading the development of AI-powered data querying — enabling users to ask business questions in natural language and receive actionable insights — while shaping the evolution of our data quality tools, and analytical engines such as StarRocks.
As a senior technical leader, you will operate across AI, data infrastructure, and reliability domains, driving high-impact initiatives and serving as a key technical authority across the organization.

In this Role, you'll get to:
- Lead the development of AI-powered data querying solutions, enabling users to ask business questions in natural language and receive actionable insights.
- Architect and develop scalable data quality tools and frameworks to ensure reliable and trustworthy data.
- Act as a hands-on technical leader, tackling complex challenges across AI query engines, data quality systems, and analytical engines.
- Collaborate with TPMs and stakeholders to define and drive the technical vision and roadmap for AI-driven querying, query engines, and data quality tools.
- Mentor engineers and raise standards across data quality & governance tools, query engines, and the broader data platform.
What you'll Need to Succeed:
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, or related fields
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- SQL and large-scale data systems
- Modern analytical databases / data warehouses (e.g., StarRocks, Snowflake, BigQuery, ClickHouse)
- Backend development (e.g., Python, Java, Scala or similar)
- Experience building or working with:
- AI/LLM-based applications (e.g., text-to-SQL, conversational interfaces, cursor, copilots)
- Data platforms or analytical infrastructure at scale
- Strong understanding of data modeling, query execution, and performance optimization
- Proven ability to lead cross-team, high-impact technical initiatives
- Ability to navigate between deep hands-on work and strategic technical leadership
- Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

The Opportunity:
DevOps Engineering team is tasked with creating automation into the Software Development Lifecycle concerning all Agoda’s R&D. The team is responsible for maintaining all central Dev-related tooling chain and develop internal tools/Web Portals in order to increase development efficiency and security. The impact of this engineering team affects all development in Agoda.
In this Role, you’ll get to:
- Maintain CI/CD best practices and automating security testing at the speed of DevOps
- Maintain all central Dev-related systems for source control, CI, Service Discovery, and more.
- Bridging the gap between Development and Operations
- Full-stack development for internal portals and tooling
What you’ll Need to Succeed:
- 10+ years of experience in Software Engineering / DevOps / Platform Engineering, with at least several years operating in a senior or principal capacity.
- Hands-on experience with the whole SDLC: Requirement, Design, Code, Test, Deploy
- Great coding skills in a modern programming language (preferably Python/Go)
- Knowledge of Development ecosystem tooling: Git/CI/Docker/Kubernetes

Get to Know our Team
In Agoda’s Back End Engineering department, we build the scalable, fault-tolerant systems and APIs that host our core business logic. Our systems cover all major areas of our business: inventory and pricing, product information, customer data, communications, partner data, booking systems, payments, and more. These mission-critical systems change frequently with dozens of releases per day, so we must employ state-of-the-art CI/CD and testing techniques in order to make sure everything works without any downtime. We also ensure that our systems are self-healing, responding gracefully to extreme loads or unexpected input. In order to accomplish this, we use state-of-the-art languages like Scala and Go, data technologies like Kafka and Aerospike, and agile development practices. Most importantly though, we hire great people from all around the world and empower them to be successful. Whether it’s building new projects like Flights and Packages or reimagining our existing business, you’ll make a big impact as part of the Back End Engineering team.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a Principal Engineer to drive innovation across our AI-powered data experience and platform infrastructure.
This role combines leading the development of AI-powered data querying — enabling users to ask business questions in natural language and receive actionable insights — while shaping the evolution of our data quality tools, and analytical engines such as StarRocks.
As a senior technical leader, you will operate across AI, data infrastructure, and reliability domains, driving high-impact initiatives and serving as a key technical authority across the organization.
This position is based in Bangkok, Thailand. (Relocation support is provided)
In this Role, you'll get to:
- Lead the development of AI-powered data querying solutions, enabling users to ask business questions in natural language and receive actionable insights.
- Architect and develop scalable data quality tools and frameworks to ensure reliable and trustworthy data.
- Act as a hands-on technical leader, tackling complex challenges across AI query engines, data quality systems, and analytical engines.
- Collaborate with TPMs and stakeholders to define and drive the technical vision and roadmap for AI-driven querying, query engines, and data quality tools.
- Mentor engineers and raise standards across data quality & governance tools, query engines, and the broader data platform.
What you'll Need to Succeed:
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, or related fields
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- SQL and large-scale data systems
- Modern analytical databases / data warehouses (e.g., StarRocks, Snowflake, BigQuery, ClickHouse)
- Backend development (e.g., Python, Java, Scala or similar)
- Experience building or working with:
- AI/LLM-based applications (e.g., text-to-SQL, conversational interfaces, cursor, copilots)
- Data platforms or analytical infrastructure at scale
- Strong understanding of data modeling, query execution, and performance optimization
- Proven ability to lead cross-team, high-impact technical initiatives
- Ability to navigate between deep hands-on work and strategic technical leadership
- Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
It's Great if you have:
- Experience with text-to-SQL systems or AI-driven data interfaces
- Experience implementing or scaling analytical engines such as StarRocks
- Background in data observability, quality, or governance frameworks
- Experience with tools like dbt, Airflow, Spark, or similar
