• Strong experience owning production services end-to-end, including design, development, deployment, monitoring, and long-term evolution.
• Demonstrated success leading large-scale technical initiatives in complex engineering organizations.
• Expertise in software quality practices, testing strategy, engineering metrics, observability, debugging, system reliability, and operational excellence.
• Strong backend engineering skills, with proficiency in languages such as Kotlin, Scala, or Java.
• Broad engineering understanding beyond backend, including awareness of trade-offs across frontend, mobile, and data analytics.

Overview

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Core Experiences Team. This team builds and maintains the foundational services and SDKs that power Speechify’s product experience across platforms. It's a critical role for someone who enjoys working at the intersection of product and infrastructure, thinks strategically, and is passionate about designing clear, reliable APIs and simple systems that directly enhance the user experience.

What You’ll Do

• Collaborate with Speechify’s Product Teams to scope projects, find ways to reduce scope to get faster feedback from customers, navigate the integration/UX tradeoffs relevant to different product teams, and deliver solutions via our cross-platform SDK
• Optimize existing functionality to ship things like faster loading and more intelligent parsing by designing more efficient abstractions and improving our algorithms
• Ship cloud functions, lightweight backend services, and jobs using Kotlin

With the growth of our Android app, being the most used text-to-speech app in the Play Store, we find the need for a Senior Android Engineer to help us support the new user base as well as work on new and exciting projects to push us forward.   

This is a key role and ideal for someone who thinks strategically, enjoys fast-paced environments, passionate about making product decisions, and has experience building great user experiences that delight users.

What You’ll Do

• Owning major features and working closely with our design team - take ownership of features inside the app and become responsible of delivering high quality features
• Shape the future of our Android team
• Own, maintain and improve reliability metrics for key features
• Participate in discussions across different teams - Product, Design, Engineering
• Review pull requests, and support other teammates
• Handle critical issues or cope with unexpected challenges 
• Take ownership of feature releases and provide nightly builds for the QA team

An Ideal Candidate Should Have

• 5+ years of software engineering experience
• Familiarity with Android components
• Experience building or contributing to at least one Android app
• Product design intuition and user empathy
• Drive to push the boundaries of Android UI/UX
• Understanding of the importance of tests and how to approach writing tests
• Self-drive to improve the app and codebase above and beyond what's outlined in the spec
• Rock solid experience with Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android Animations, Jetpack Navigation, JUnit tests

This role is part of Agoda’s Display & App Marketing engineering team, focused on building and improving large-scale systems that power paid marketing across global advertising channels, including Display Ads and App Install campaigns.

Our systems handle high-volume hotel feeds (price, availability, content), image processing for advertisements, advertising platform integrations (Google Ads, Meta, etc.), and data pipelines that support experimentation and optimization.

You will work closely with Marketing, Product, and Data teams to deliver reliable, efficient, and scalable engineering solutions, with strong exposure to marketing strategy, experimentation, and real business impact. The team is growing and evolving, giving you the opportunity to shape systems and ways of working end-to-end—from design and implementation to operational excellence at global scale.

In this Role, you will get to

1. Design, build, and operate backend services and data pipelines that support performance marketing use cases, including hotel feeds, ad platform integrations, and experiment data
2. Contribute to technical design discussions and drive implementation of production systems running at scale

Fintech is one of the fastest growing areas in Agoda and we are rapidly expanding our tech team. We work closely with the finance business team and our Fintech product owners to reduce risk, drive efficiencies and move on new market opportunities in this exciting field. We have a wide range of projects from traditional finance to cutting-edge customer fintech. For example, reconciliation using Big Data technologies, growing and optimizing customer payments options, tax calculations in milli-second response times and a mesh of supplier payment options like virtual credit cards. The Opportunity  

In this role, you will not only develop robust backend systems but also architect and maintain scalable data pipelines and storage solutions that support complex data collection, processing, and analysis. Your dual expertise in backend and data engineering will play a crucial role in optimizing our financial technology solutions and driving informed business decisions through reliable data insights.

What You’ll Need to Succeed  

• 8+ years of experience with strong proficiency in Java, Kotlin, Scala, or C# with a proven track record of developing high-performance applications in production settings. Insightful experience with big data technologies like Hadoop, real-time processing frameworks (e.g., Apache Spark), and advanced knowledge of SQL and data architecture
• Thinks in systems: their edge cases, failure modes, and life cycles
• Uses a metrics driven approach and can make informed decisions using data
• You are passionate about the craft of software development and constantly work to improve your knowledge and skills
• Experience with Scrum/Agile development methodologies
• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
• Experience with operational excellence and a deep understanding of metrics, alarms and dashboards

It’s Great If You Have  

• Experience working in a modern FinTech or Payments organization
• Domain knowledge in any of these areas: financial reconciliation, financial reporting, tax, payout methods like virtual credit cards or customer payments
• Hands-on experience working with technologies like Spark for data processing, ETLs for data pipelines and queueing systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ)
• Core engineering infrastructure tools like GitLab for source control and Continuous Integration, Kubernetes
• Experience developing, maintaining and debugging large-scale distributed systems 
• Experience in leading projects, initiatives and/or teams, with full ownership of the systems involved
