About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Software Quality Assurance Engineer to join the Stripe Terminal Device Software Quality Assurance  team. In this role, you will own the quality assurance process and result for Firmware and Device OS components across our payment terminal devices. You'll work closely with software development teams to define quality standards, develop comprehensive test strategies, plan, and drive software quality improvements through both technical expertise and process enhancements.

What You'll Do

• Own software quality for Terminal device software components (Firmware, Device OS ) and ensure software quality targets are met in the customers.
• Collaborate with developers during software planning, change review, and release meetings to understand new features, specifications, expected behaviors, and the impact and risks of changes. Create spot testing to test software before branch cut.
• Deeply understand customer use scenarios, PRD (Product Requirement Document), and SRD (Software Design Document), work with developers and create robust test plans that improve coverage for configurations, user scenarios testing, and reliability testing.
• Perform Bluetooth validation across multiple devices, edge cases, and recovery scenarios.
• Validate device with various enterprise network configurations and security types.
• Design and execute testing for power performance, battery behavior, sleep/wake reliability, and resilience under extended or degraded operating conditions.
• Own design, build, and maintain lab setups and test environments that accurately reflect production-like usage conditions and support repeatable validation.
• Co-lead software quality incident remediation efforts with engineering teams, including root cause analysis and solution development. 
• Establish and maintain software quality assurance processes, and influence cross-functional teams at Stripe and BBPOS to drive quality and process improvements.
• Create and optimize test cases while collaborating with automation engineers to expand automated test coverage, and guiding manual SQA team members to perform high-quality software testing.
• Mentor or coach junior software quality engineers to improve work quality and efficiency.

Qualifications & Requirements

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field
• 6+ years of experience in software quality assurance for embedded systems or firmware
• Ability to analyze software changes and assess impact on testing coverage by reviewing release notes and software design documents. 
• Experience developing test strategies, test plans, and test cases based on product requirements
• Ability to identify root causes of software defects
• Ability to proactively identify risks and take the initiative to mitigate them

What You Will Do 

• Quickly support (within hours) and respond to the needs of various operational teams, formulate Ad-Hoc analysis plans, and produce high-quality, highly accurate data reports.
• Operational Pain Point Analysis and Root Cause Analysis: Building a customer experience funnel, identifying process issues and operational problems from the user lifecycle, and analyzing deep-seated causes.
• End-to-End Data Pipeline Construction and Maintenance (ETL & Pipeline): Using Presto/Hive SQL to process large-scale data, responsible for designing and maintaining Airflow DAGs, developing and optimizing Data Marts, monitoring data pipeline health, and ensuring data quality.
• Process Automation and Tool Development (Automation & Tooling): Using Python to develop automation scripts, integrating Slack, GitHub, Zendesk, Tableau, Presto, Confluence, and various internal APIs, and using/introducing LangChain, MCP Server to achieve automated updates and releases for various research, report generation, Quality Assurance, etc., reducing manual intervention and improving team efficiency.

Basic Qualifications  

• 3+ years of data analysis or data engineering experience, with the ability to handle complex SQL queries (Recursive CTE, Window Functions, JSON parsing).
• Possess business analysis sensitivity, capable of transforming vague business problems (e.g., "Why are customer complaints increasing?") into concrete data analysis projects.
• Familiar with Tableau Server, Power BI, or related report creation and operation.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiar with customer service and ticketing system operational data structures: experience in data analysis for similar systems such as customer service, e-commerce, and logistics.
• Possess e-commerce or supply chain domain knowledge: understanding of e-commerce business models and logistics inventory logic.

1. Problem Definition & Strategic Design Thinking

• The Role: Identify and define the core user problems within our growth and automation tools. You must look past surface-level requests to understand the root cause of user friction or system inefficiency.

2. Interaction & System Design

• The Role: Architect the end-to-end user journey for both internal automation tools and external customer-facing experiences.
• The Expectation: You design for scale. You must create robust design systems and logical flows that handle millions of data points and complex variables without overwhelming the user. You work closely with engineers to ensure your designs are technically feasible.

3. Data-Driven Design & Autonomous Analytics

• The Role: Use quantitative and qualitative data to inform and validate your design hypotheses.
• The Expectation: You do not rely solely on others for insights. You are expected to be comfortable looking at performance dashboards and conversion data (and ideally navigating basic data tools) to understand how your designs impact business metrics.

4. Technical & Operational Insight

• The Role: Maintain a deep understanding of the growth channel's operational workflows to identify where design can reduce manual effort.
• The Expectation: While you are not a campaign manager, you must be a "power user" of the growth platforms. You should know exactly how campaigns are managed to identify "pain points" where better design or automation can replace tedious manual work.

5. Hands-on Prototyping & Execution

• The Role: Deliver high-fidelity designs and interactive prototypes that clearly communicate the vision to stakeholders and engineers.
• The Expectation: You are a master of your craft (Figma, etc.). If a project is moving fast, you are expected to handle the entire design lifecycle independently—from initial wireframes and user testing to final hand-off and visual QA.

Basic Qualifications

• Experience: 8+ years in Product Design, with a focus on high-scale E-commerce, B2C, or SaaS platforms.
• Language: Professional English and Chinese speaker. You must be able to communicate design rationale fluently in English for global alignment and in Chinese for local team collaboration.
• Operational Insight: Experience designing for complex technical systems where data density and automation are high.
• Technical Skills: Expert proficiency in Figma and prototyping tools.
• Independence: A track record of leading design for entire product areas as a senior individual contributor in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment.

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Software Quality Analyst with a strong passion for ensuring the delivery of high-quality software products.
