About the role

We are seeking a Senior Hardware Engineer to join the Devices Hardware Engineering team. About the role

We are looking for a Senior Reliability Lab Operation Engineer who will be responsible for the full lifecycle management of laboratory equipment, complex problem analysis, and technical improvement, and participation in the development of reliability test equipment and test fixtures. The engineer will ensure the laboratory operates efficiently, stably, and with low risk through institutionalized and engineering means, providing reliable experimental platform support for the R&D, verification, and mass production of POS terminal products.

This position requires a deep understanding of mechatronic consumer systems, strong development skills, and proven ability to lead and collaborate in cross-functional team environments and in supplier management. In this role, you will manage contract workers (CWs) to meet the needs of laboratory operational excellence.

Field engineers carry a significant responsibility - helping customers understand the range of silicon and board options, helping them deliver their unique applications, and helping them ensure the security of critical infrastructure. Our team hires software engineers with experience in the full stack of Linux from firmware to GUI. We represent Canonical and its capabilities to some of the most important companies in the world. Our customers have tremendously varied goals - from mission critical and very expensive machines to tiny and low-cost things. We aim to bring the right insights at each stage of the process and to help these customers make effective choices. Most importantly, we aim to help them deliver devices that meet their business goals, on time. 

Responsibilities include consulting, developing, demonstrating, and presenting some of the most advanced operating systems and application technologies available in the enterprise world. The role is a fast-paced, problem-solving environment and the questions require answers can be challenging yet very exciting. The right candidate must be resourceful, quick-thinking, and able to deliver on a wide variety of solutions across cloud, server, desktop and IoT technologies.

This role will support customers in China and the broader Asia-Pacific market.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

• Build strategic relationships with key technology partners and customers
• Conduct yourself as a trusted technical advisor
• Apply expertise in analysing a customer's business or technical challenges and correctly map the appropriate solution

Required Skills and Experience

• A degree in engineering, preferably computer science or software engineering
• 2 years experience in enterprise or commercial software development with Linux
• Excellent communication and presentation skills - both to customers and in support of technology and industry conferences.
• Skills in supporting complex sales cycles what involve detailed technical requirements, multiple technical stakeholders and new innovative product designs.
• Ability to interpret customer business challenges and technical issues and effectively communicate how a solution will align to their needs and requirements.
• Experience of deploying embedded and IoT solutions - from hardware, operating systems through applications and cloud services.
• Understanding of security issues in the IoT industry.
• Understanding of the Linux kernel: modules, BSPs, etc.
• Familiarity with x86 and ARM SoC architectures and vendors.

Overview: Join our team as a Wireless System Characterization Engineer where you will play a pivotal role in integrating and characterizing wireless systems. Work with cutting-edge technologies to assess wireless performance, specifically focusing on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth standards. You will develop and execute test plans to ensure optimal throughput, signal strength, and power consumption, impacting the development and testing phases of emerging consumer electronics products, such as AR, VR, and Smart Glasses.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and execute comprehensive test plans, focusing on wireless system integration, performance metrics, and power consumption.
• Conduct throughput testing in conducted setups and perform link quality measurements on-body (emerging AI-enabled wearable devices) to evaluate wireless performance.
• Utilize RF measurement equipment to assess signal strength and power consumption under varying wireless link use cases.
• Analyze lab measurement data and create reports to be used for re-design or optimization of wireless solutions in such devices.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including hardware, software, and design—to ensure accurate characterization and seamless integration of wireless systems.
• Leverage Python and MATLAB to script and automate testing processes for efficient characterization of wireless technologies.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Proficiency in wireless technologies, specifically Wi-Fi and Bluetooth standards.
• Intermediate experience with Python and MATLAB for scripting and system characterization tasks.
• Basic familiarity with RF measurement equipment and techniques for setting up lab test stations for wireless systems and testing signal strength and power consumption.
• Ability to develop and execute test plans, focusing on the integration and characterization of wireless systems.
• Experience with measuring and analyzing key performance metrics such as throughput (under different data traffic profiles), signal strength (RSSI, SNR), and power consumption.
