What We're Looking For
We’re looking for a Frontend Engineer to help develop and scale the UI and frontend infrastructure of the Lightning AI platform. In this role, you’ll take ownership of key features and drive them end-to-end, working closely with engineering, product, and design to ship high-quality, iterative improvements. With over 10,000 organizations building with Lightning, you’ll have a unique opportunity to impact how the world builds and deploys AI to production.
This role is based in one of our hubs (Seattle, NYC, SF, or London), with a minimum of 2 in-office days per week and occasional team and company offsites. We are not able to provide visa sponsorship for this position at this time.
What You’ll Do
- Write readable/testable/efficient code in React and Redux, and build deep expertise in our technology stack to deliver new features, improve system stability, and increase overall performance.
- Partner with engineering and product leaders on developing the user interface and frontend infrastructure while using your experience to set the technical direction for large projects.
- Evaluate, strengthen, and document technical architecture, tools, and processes.
- Maintain high standards for software quality, implement automation, drive continuous delivery, and reduce time to production while proactively reducing technical debt.
- Mentor and coach engineers on system design, operating in high uncertainty, and problem-solving to create a supportive, inclusive environment in which each engineer can grow.
What You’ll Need
- Proficiency in React, JavaScript and TypeScript.
- Strong understanding of software engineering principles and lifecycle.
- Hands-on experience as a Frontend Engineer in a SaaS technology company.
- Proven ability to take ownership of key features and drive end-to-end development.
- Communication and collaboration with engineers, product managers, and designers.
- Ability to operate in high uncertainty and rapidly changing environments.

The Role:
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Protect team who will help build our next generation Insurance platform. You will have the opportunity to set technical direction for a growing and critical business function within SoFi where the overall architecture is still relatively greenfield and the business impact is high. We are looking for a talented and experienced Senior Frontend Software Engineer to join our team in building a state-of-the-art insurance platform. The successful candidate will have a strong background in designing, developing, and maintaining responsive, high-performance, and secure user interfaces and experiences (UI/UX).
As a Senior Frontend Software Engineer, you will play a crucial role in delivering exceptional customer experiences, ensuring the performance, accessibility, and reliability of our user-facing applications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and testing of our systems and services
- Participate in shaping the technical architecture of the product
- Help translate product requirements into user stories and technical solutions
- Deliver highly available and scalable services in a production environment
- Mentor other engineers, support the technical culture, and help grow the team
- Generate ideas for new initiatives and technologies
- Communicate with project leads, product managers and other software developers
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field
- 5+ years programming experience, ideally on a modern stack
- Our core frontend stack includes JavaScript/TypeScript, React, HTML5, and CSS
- 3+ years experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and a modern frontend framework like React
- A solid understanding of UI/UX principles, state management (e.g., Redux, Context API), and cross-browser compatibility
- Experience integrating frontend applications with RESTful APIs or GraphQL
- Experience working with GIT and CI/CD systems
- Effective communication skills
- Willingness to roll up your sleeves, collaborate with others and get stuff done
- Solid sense of responsibility; driving a project from inception to completion
- Experience working in a collaborative coding environment, refining designs together, working through code reviews and managing pull requests
- View Unit and Integration test as 1st class citizen in software development (especially for UI components)
Nice To Have:
- Experience scaling highly available, mission critical systems
- Full-stack experience, particularly with back-end technologies like Java/Kotlin or cloud platforms (AWS, Kubernetes)
- Insurance Industry Experience: Familiarity with the insurance industry and its specific regulatory requirements
- Experience incorporating LLMs into user flows

Working closely with product managers, designers, and backend engineers, you’ll play an important role in enabling the newest technologies and experiences. What you’ll do:
- Support millions of users and enable colleagues by ensuring excellence in core pieces that are shared throughout the application
- Identify site-wide challenges; propose, test, and ship solutions
- Drive changes that improve the entire site such as improving accessibility, network frameworks and browser support strategy
- Enable developers to work more effectively by improving architecture, testing capabilities and release cycles
- Solve hard-to-see user pain points that often affect every page such as performance, monitoring errors and solving user metric anomalies
- Grow as a developer by working with world-class peers on varied and high impact projects
- Leverage AI to seek faster execution (i.e. draft, prototype, outline) and explore alternative options (i.e. iterate, compare approaches)
- Leverage AI to synthesize information (summarize, distill themes) and automate repeatable tasks (documentation, reporting, QA checks)
What we’re looking for:
- 5+ years of experience building large-scale full-stack products
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, or equivalent experience
- Deep understanding of web development and best practices in React/Redux
- Strong experience with programming languages Javascript and Python/Java
- Strong technical skills, and a willingness to learn new technologies
- Strong software engineering principles and practices
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to use AI to improve speed and quality in your day-to-day workflow for relevant outputs.
- Strong track record of critical evaluation and verification of AI-assisted work (e.g., testing, source-checking, data validation, peer review).
