Senior Process Engineer

As a Senior Process engineer at Redwood you will have the opportunity to make the world a better place by contributing to a wide variety of processes and projects across the business and locations. The chemical engineering team has three main functions that leverage all the fields of chemical and metallurgical processing: Provide sound technical support and continuously improve our commercial operations; Develop new processes and plants to address the immediate challenges of the recycling industry; Research and development to address the future challenges of recycling industry. This Senior Chemical Engineer will fall underneath Redwood's Plant Design and Commissioning group supporting our hydrometallurgy refining plants and related operations.

Responsibilities will include:

• Working closely with operations and maintenance teams to ensure that our processes are safe, efficient, sustainable, and continuously improving
• Leading and participating in cross-functional teams to develop and implement new process plant and equipment
• Testwork and pilot plant design and operation
• Flowsheet conceptualization and development
• Flowsheet trade-off evaluations and studies
• Process plant design
• Process plant implementation and installation assistance
• Process plant commissioning and ramp-up

Desired Qualifications

• Bachelors or Masters in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or related discipline
• 5 to 7 years experience in Chemical Plant Operations and/or Design and Commissioning
• Large scale industrial processing experience
• Operational support and track record of solving difficult chemical and metallurgical process problems and making plant improvements
• Testwork and pilot plant design and operating experience
• Process modelling (HSCSIM, SysCAD, METSIM) and equipment sizing linking testwork and pilot plant operation to real project implementation
• Trade-off studies and financial evaluation
• Process plant design and commissioning
• Track record of solving difficult chemical and metallurgical processing problems

• Measurement and Dimensional Analysis:

  • Analyze full vehicle and BIW measurement data to evaluate body fit, gap and flush, and dimensional stability.
  • Lead root cause investigations for body dimensional variation using GD&T principles, CAD comparison, and plant measurement data.
  • Work with metrology teams to optimize datum strategy, measurement points, and body location systems.

  Fit & Finish / Dimensional Analysis:

  • Ensure proper integration of closures, glass, trim, and exterior systems to BIW structure to achieve world-class craftsmanship.

  • Develop and track dimensional quality KPIs, driving continuous improvement across pre-production builds.

  Manufacturing & Plant Support:

  • Partner with supplier quality, body shop, and final assembly teams to ensure dimensional integrity is achieved through tooling, fixtures, and process control.
  • Support body shop launch readiness through analysis during VFF through SOP, BIW build quality, and joining execution.
  • Use digital tools (e.g., Q-DAS, CM4D, PolyWorks, 3DCS, Pi Web) to track and analyze measurement and quality data.

  Issue Identification and Resolution

  • Identify deviations, defects, or process variation in the production process or final vehicle assembly.
  • Work with relevant departments to implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Monitor and verify the effectiveness of implemented solutions.
  • Lead the timing plan of open issue closures.

  Continuous Improvement

  • Analyze process data to identify trends and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Develop strategies to proactively address potential quality issues.
  • Develop lessons learned and root cause analysis catalogues.

  Reporting and Communication

  • Lead cross-functional meetings on issue resolution.
  • Prepare detailed summarizing findings, recommendations, and corrective actions.
  • Communicate quality action plans to senior leadership and stakeholders.

Overview

As a member of the Technical Office Engineering (TOE) you will contribute within the production environment, to the manufacturing and testing of the first cars featuring the pioneering Scout design and functionalities. Additionally, you will play a decisive role in transferring the lessons learned to product optimization activities and the later pre-series and series production line. In your role in the Test-Car Build Management you will report to the Manager of the Engineering Office.

About the role

The Nuclear Company is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Licensing Engineer to join our Regulatory team in Columbia, South Carolina. This role will be responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and maintenance of licensing strategies and documents to ensure compliance with all applicable nuclear regulatory requirements. 

The Licensing Engineer will play a key role in understanding and contributing to the complex regulatory landscape of the nuclear energy industry. Reporting to the Director of Licensing, this position will involve assisting with interpreting regulations, preparing licensing submittals, and ensuring the company's activities are conducted in accordance with all applicable licenses, permits, and regulatory requirements. 

Responsibilities

• Licensing Document Support:
  • Assist in the preparation, review, and revision of licensing documents, including license applications, amendments, technical specifications, safety analysis reports, environmental reports, and other regulatory submittals.
  • Support efforts to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and technical adequacy of all licensing documents.
  • Develop an understanding of current licensing bases and regulatory commitments.
• Regulatory Interpretation & Analysis:
  • Help interpret and analyze federal, state, and local regulations related to nuclear energy.
  • Assist in assessing the impact of new and revised regulations on the company's operations and licensing basis.
  • Provide support to internal stakeholders on regulatory requirements and licensing strategies.
• Regulatory Agency Interaction Support:
  • Support the preparation of responses to regulatory inquiries and requests for additional information.
  • Participate in meetings and teleconferences with regulatory agencies (e.g., NRC) as needed.
  • Assist with regulatory inspections and audits.
• Compliance Assurance Support:
  • Support the development and implementation of programs and procedures to ensure ongoing regulatory compliance.
  • Assist with internal audits and assessments to verify adherence to licensing commitments.
  • Help track and manage regulatory commitments and action items.
• Technical Support:
  • Provide support to engineering, operations, and other departments on licensing-related matters.

  • Assist in the development of training materials related to licensing requirements.

Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Nuclear, Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, etc.) or a related scientific discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in engineering or a related technical field within the nuclear energy industry.
• Demonstrated experience with nuclear regulations, licensing processes, and regulatory guidance documents (e.g., NRC regulations, NUREGs).
• Familiarity with reactor systems, safety analysis, or environmental regulations related to nuclear energy.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical information clearly and concisely.
• Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy and completeness.
• Ability to interpret and apply regulations and technical standards.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Estimated Starting Salary Range

The estimated starting salary range for this role is $120,000 - $140,000 annually less applicable withholdings and deductions, paid on a semi-monthly basis.  The actual salary offered may vary based on relevant factors as determined in the Company’s discretion, which may include experience, qualifications, tenure, skill set, availability of qualified candidates, geographic location, certifications held, and other criteria deemed pertinent to the particular role.

This role will be responsible for supporting the verification and closure of Inspections, Tests, Analyses, and Acceptance Criteria (ITAAC) to ensure that nuclear facility construction and modifications comply with all applicable regulatory requirements and design specifications.

The ITAAC Engineer will play a key role in ensuring the successful transition of new or modified nuclear facilities from construction to operation. This position will involve interpreting ITAAC requirements, collecting and organizing evidence, preparing ITAAC closure documentation, and interacting with regulatory agencies to demonstrate compliance with the Combined Operating License (COL).

Responsibilities

• ITAAC Verification & Documentation:
  • Interpret and understand specific ITAAC requirements as defined in the Combined Operating License (COL) and associated design documents.
  • Gather, review, and organize objective evidence (e.g., test reports, inspection records, analysis reports, design documents, construction specifications) to demonstrate completion of ITAAC.
  • Prepare and support the development of ITAAC Closure Notifications (ICNs) and other related documentation for submission to the NRC.
  • Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and technical adequacy of all ITAAC verification packages.
• Regulatory Interpretation & Application:
  • Interpret and apply federal regulations, regulatory guides, and industry standards related to ITAAC and nuclear facility commissioning.

Experience

• Familiarity with nuclear power plant design, construction, testing, and commissioning processes.
• Experience with integrated project schedules and tracking tools for large construction projects.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to connect design intent to physical realization.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to compile complex technical information into clear, concise regulatory submittals.
• Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy and completeness, especially when reviewing objective evidence.
