About the Role
The PJ (Business Account) team is a rapidly scaling unit within Nubank. We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join this high-impact team, strategically helping the growth in Brazil and beyond.
In this role, you will sit at the intersection of Product and Platform. While we are a business-focused team dedicated to moving core metrics, you will also navigate global platform challenges.
We are looking for a resourceful engineer. Someone who is excited by broad, complex problems and has the eagerness to expand our market share in a fast-moving environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead the technical design and implementation of scalable systems that power the PJ app experience for millions of business customers.
- Partner with Global Platform teams to integrate core services while maintaining a product-driven focus.
- Drive business outcomes by translating entrepreneur-specific challenges into robust, high-performance software solutions.
- Maintain technical excellence within the team through architectural discussions, code reviews, and mentorship.
- Collaborate cross-functionally across different Business Units to ensure seamless integration and a unified customer experience.
Required qualifications
- Ideally, has experience in Flutter and mobile architecture, and is equally comfortable navigating Clojure/BDC backend systems, from authentication flows and token management to BDC expressions and backend providers
- Wants to own the architectural vision for how PJ customers access, navigate, and experience their business finances, shaping decisions that will define how PJ scales across products, segments, and countries
- Can hold the platform and product tension simultaneously, thinking in systems while staying close to the customer experience, because the foundations you design directly determine what AXP can build and how fast they can ship
- Has a track record of driving alignment on hard architectural problems across multiple teams and stakeholders, bringing clarity to spaces where the path forward is genuinely unclear
- Wants to work on a horizontal, high-visibility role where your technical decisions have reach well beyond your own squad, influencing how authentication, app experience, and platform infrastructure evolve across PJ and Nubank
- Thrives in ambiguous, long-horizon initiatives and is energized by the challenge of defining what good looks like, not just executing against a spec
Location & Work Model
This role can be based in our offices in São Paulo and Campinas (Brazil) in a hybrid model (2x per week in the office), or according to current policies for the PJ team.

About the Role
We are looking for an experienced engineer who thrives on solving "meta-problems"—fixing the tools and processes that other teams rely on. We are looking for a Staff Engineer to join our platform team as a technical anchor, ensuring our systems remain scalable and flexible as we maintain sustainable growth and innovation in the countries where we currently operate, while also launching into new international markets. You will play a vital role in evolving the architecture of one of our most complex and strategic products.
You will operate within a high-impact triad alongside Product and Management, focusing on long-term technical strategy and system health. As a hands-on technical leader, you will challenge the status quo, propose innovation and solve deep architectural problems, mentor and become a technical reference for our engineering team. Your work will directly enable millions of customers to access financial products via credit card worldwide.
Responsibilities
- Define and drive the long-term vision and strategy for the global architecture of the core credit card platform, ensuring exponential scalability and continuous evolution capability.
- Lead the strategic partnership with Product and Business leadership (C-level and VPs) to shape the medium and long-term technical roadmap and define the strategic OKRs and global impact KPIs.
- Act as a technical and cultural reference, defining the highest standards of engineering excellence, mentoring other Architects and Principal/Staff Engineers, and fostering a culture of innovation and accountability.
- Lead and resolve the most ambitious and high-risk technical challenges, intervening in critical performance or resilience bottlenecks and driving technical execution for solutions with multi-system and multi-country impact.
- Design and oversee the execution of complex system transformations (e.g., core banking migrations, replacement of legacy platforms) ensuring regulatory compliance in multiple jurisdictions and fiscal regimes, proactively mitigating risks.
- Communicate and defend the technical strategy eloquently and convincingly to the executive board and non-technical audiences, translating architecture decisions into business value and competitive advantage.
Required Qualifications
- Principal/Staff Engineer level experience or equivalent with an extensive and demonstrable history in architecting and scaling mission-critical, high-volume, and low-latency systems in global fintech or e-commerce environments.
- Expert proficiency (demonstrated in code and design) in multiple programming paradigms, with significant hands-on experience in functional programming (e.g., Clojure, Scala, Haskell) and reactive/event-based architectures.
- Proven ability to establish and lead the long-term technical strategy for entire platform ecosystems (not just isolated components), influencing the direction of multiple engineering groups.
- Deep and successful experience in navigating and defining the architecture in highly regulated financial environments (e.g., BACEN, FCA, SOX) and designing systems to meet data residency requirements and complex cross-border transactions.
- History of successfully leading and completing large-scale platform transformations (e.g., transition from monoliths to microservices mesh, migration of data centers or clouds), managing risks and operational impact.
- In-depth knowledge of credit card/payment systems design is a significant differential.

About the role
Our Engineering team helps Nubank to create and use the technology that provides us to build the best financial products. We strive for state-of-the-art software development practices that currently include a variety of technologies. While we value candidates that are familiar with them, we are also confident that software engineers who are interested in joining Nubank will be able to learn from our team. The software engineer is focused on software development with Clojure as the main programming language (We will teach you Clojure). Main responsibilities:
- Horizontally scalable microservices written mostly in Clojure, using Finagle and leveraging upon functional programming techniques and hexagonal architecture
- High throughput jobs and inter-service communication using Kafka
- Continuous Integration and Deployment into AWS
- Storing data in Datomic and DynamoDB
- Monitoring and observability with Prometheus
- Running as much as possible in Kubernetes

You will be responsible for
- Work with large scale distributed systems, understanding their broad architecture
- Set technical direction for multiple teams, ensuring alignment with Business Areas and architecture strategies
- Drive pragmatic innovation while ensuring resilient and flexible solutions that scale across products and geographies
- Mentor engineers across teams, establishing and maintaining a high technical bar organization-wide
- Write, test, instrument, document, and maintain code. Able to pair and participate in code reviews to contribute to the growth of others in and around the team
- Collaborate closely with Product, Design, and Engineering leaders to build new experiences
- Ensure comprehensive observability, performance monitoring, and error handling across team services
- Participate in on-call rotations for your team and respond to incidents as necessary
- Work focused on backend applications, and be open to contribute to mobile and frontend development, according to business needs
We are looking for a person who has
- At least 10 years of experience developing digital products in complex environments
- Deep expertise in distributed systems, microservices architecture, and cloud technologies
- Proven track record of designing and delivering large-scale systems that serve thousands (or even millions) of users
- Strong background in object-oriented or functional programming languages, with ability to work across multiple languages
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives across multiple teams without direct authority
- Experience mentoring senior engineers and raising the technical bar across organizations
- Practical knowledge of agile software development methodologies and previous experience with CI/CD
- Good communication skills to prevent risks and explain trade-offs clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Advanced English skills

About the role
At Nubank, protecting customer data is a foundational element of our relationship with over 100 million users. As a Data Security Analytics Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and evolving the secure infrastructure that allows our teams to innovate at scale while maintaining the highest standards of privacy and compliance. You will lead the integration between Data Engineering and Security, ensuring that sensitive data is classified, governed, and monitored across our global analytics environment. Your mission is to balance risk reduction with high usability and performance, ensuring that data security is embedded by design in every pipeline and analytical layer.
You'll be responsible for
- Designing Secure Data Architectures: Independently build and evolve secure data ingestion, transformation, and analytics pipelines that support sensitive and regulated data across all analytics environments.
- Implementing Platform-Level Security: Drive the rollout of improvements such as classification tags, policy-driven access controls, and automated validations to reduce risk without compromising system performance.
- Governing Data Models: Own the design and evolution of data models and semantic views that enforce security and privacy requirements by default.
- Operationalizing Metadata and Lineage: Lead initiatives to track data lineage and sensitivity metadata across critical sources, enabling scalable governance and observability.
- Executing Audits and Remediation: Actively lead access reviews and remediation efforts, identifying gaps in least-privilege enforcement and proposing structural improvements.
- Monitoring and Detection: Design and maintain dashboards, logs, and alerts to detect anomalous data access, misuse patterns, or risky joins across analytics workloads.
- Incident Response and Investigation: Investigate complex access anomalies or security incidents, performing root cause analysis and proposing preventive controls in collaboration with Security Engineering and Data Platform teams.
- Building Internal Tooling: Maintain and develop tooling that enables secure data usage at scale, such as permission helpers and metadata validation frameworks.
We are looking for a person who has
- Data Engineering Expertise: Solid understanding of ETL/ELT fundamentals, data warehouses, and distributed systems such as BigQuery, Databricks, Kafka, or Redshift.
- Security Control Implementation: Strong working knowledge of encryption, masking, tokenization, classification, and fine-grained access control (RBAC/ABAC).
- Advanced Analytical Skills: High proficiency in SQL and experience designing analytical data models with a focus on performance, correctness, and sensitive data handling.
- Production-Grade Programming: Proficiency in writing maintainable and testable code in at least one language, such as Python, Scala, Clojure, or Go.
- Infrastructure and DevOps Knowledge: Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, and containerized environments like Docker and Kubernetes.
- Data Observability: Experience in surfacing actionable metrics and logs for security monitoring and incident investigation.
- Strategic Communication: Ability to translate security and regulatory requirements into concrete engineering solutions while engaging with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Cloud Proficiency: Exposure to cloud security practices in large-scale environments, specifically AWS or GCP.
