About the Role

iCapital is looking to hire a Backend Engineer Associate or Assistant Vice President to join the Software Engineering team. This individual will play an integral role in designing and implementing systems that power the iCapital platform. This role will work closely with the Product Management team throughout the software development process. The platform sits on top of a micro-services architecture with services built in Scala, Ruby, and Python. This person will have the opportunity to develop knowledge with new tools and technologies with support from management and mentors.

Responsibilities

• Build cloud native services using Scala, also using open-source frameworks (i.e. Akka and ZIO).
• Work with internal technical partners to create a product offering that meets the needs of our clients.
• Assist platform and system demonstrations for new prospects and work collaboratively with internal and external cross-functional teams platform onboarding and ongoing client development.
• Maintain synchronization across various industry groups to deliver a robust platform solution that addresses key stakeholders’ needs.
• Take ownership of projects.
• Participate in Peer Code Reviews as part of our standard SDLC and Change Management Process.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of cloud-based application development 
• Experience in Scala, Node.js or Java is a plus

Benefits

About the Role

More than checking the boxes on specific technologies, we are looking for driven team members with technical depth and a desire to deliver end products for our clients.

You will work closely with our Product Management team throughout the software development process, detailing requirements, reviewing work in progress, and addressing issues found via testing.  

Our platform sits on top of a micro-services architecture with services built in Scala, Ruby, Node.js and Python. If you are not already familiar with the technologies used at iCapital, you will have the opportunity to pick up these new tools and technologies while on the job—with support from management and mentors.

This individual will design, build, and optimize the data pipelines and infrastructure that enable data to be a strategic asset across the organization. This role is highly collaborative and will partner with the Product, Engineering, Analytics teams and business stakeholders to quickly understand evolving challenges and deliver scalable, maintainable, and high‑quality solutions.

Data sits at the core of iCapital’s operations. The firm relies on clean, reliable, well‑structured data to drive decision‑making, enhance client experiences, and support a rapidly growing product suite. This individual will be responsible for moving and transforming data and developing a deep understanding of the business context behind it and help teams act on insights.

Responsibilities

• Develop and automate large scale, high-performance data platform pipelines and infrastructure to drive iCapital business growth and enable data-driven decision making.
• Design and develop reusable components and frameworks for ingestion, cleansing, and data quality.
• Streamline the ingestion of raw data from various sources into our Data Lake and Data Warehouse.
• Design data models for optimal storage and retrieval that represent the tangible business domains across iCapital’s ecosystem.
• Coordinate closely with the Operations, Sales, and Product Development teams daily to push iCapital’s FinTech strategy and improve the overall profitability of the business.

Qualifications

• 6-10 years of professional experience in a data engineering or data-driven software engineering role
• Exceptional Python and SQL skills
• Extensive experience with orchestration frameworks (Prefect, Airflow, Dagster, etc.)
• Deep understanding of OLAP (Snowflake, Databricks) and OLTP (PostgreSQL, MongoDB) databases and ELT frameworks (dbt, dlthub)
• Experience developing and deploying code to Cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure)
• Possess a strong grasp of object-oriented and functional programming and an ability to write easy-to-scale, high-quality code
• Experience leveraging stream processing frameworks (Kafka, Flink, Spark)
• Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code frameworks (terraform or cloud formation)
• Detail-oriented and able to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
• Able to work independently while also being a strong team player
• Excellent written and verbal communication
• Passionate about learning and mastering cutting-edge technologies
• Professional experience with JVM based languages such as Scala, Java, and Kotlin is preferred
• Knowledge of financial markets and financial instruments is preferred

What You’ll Need:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years experience as a software engineer, designing and implementing complex software solutions.
• Experience with React / Java / Spring / Kotlin / PostgreSQL / AWS. Expertise with any modern Java frameworks, REST APIs, and relational databases
• Deep understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and best practices for building scalable and robust applications.
• Proven experience in leading and mentoring engineering teams, promoting technical excellence and collaboration.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences.
• Experience with Kafka, Docker, Kubernetes, Spring Boot, cloud infrastructure, Terraform and CI/CD

Nice to have:

• Experience in financial services or fintech (loan servicing, payments, interest calculations, credit reporting, etc.)
• Experience with Temporal, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, and CI/CD tooling.
• Exposure to data analytics or machine learning platforms.
