About the Job

Our core technology is the node, a device that produces energy in the ocean’s harshest conditions for years at a time without human maintenance or intervention. As Senior Electrical Engineer, you will work on an interdisciplinary team and be responsible for designing custom electronic hardware, taking system level concepts and requirements and turning those into fully-functional circuit cards that fulfill the system needs.

Responsibilities

• Be responsible for the design of high-reliability electronics throughout their lifecycle by working with a team of engineers. 
• Candidates should be intimately familiar with requirements capture & refinement, block diagramming, schematic and PCB design, electronics hardware packaging, component selection, circuit analysis, circuit simulation, procurement, prototyping, documentation, manufacturing, unit testing, and deployment.
• Test and verify the designed hardware in a lab environment, building/integrating multiple systems where the designs are utilized, and transferring test requirements to test engineering for large-scale manufacturing. 
• Create unit and integration test processes to ensure design validity and reliability, and exercise prototypes past their thermal, mechanical, and electrical limits to understand failure modes.
• Collaborate effectively across interdisciplinary engineering teams.
• Prepare supporting safety and engineering documentation for your designs and be responsible for the training and safety of any technicians who operate or test it.

Required qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in electrical engineering
• 8+ years relevant working experience minimum
• Extensive design experience including many of the following: high-reliability power electronics, energy storage, sensing, and control hardware for marine energy systems
• A background in both analog and digital design
• Excellent fundamental and comprehensive knowledge of electrical engineering concepts related to circuit design, calibration, and testing of mixed signal systems
• Basic understanding of switch mode power electronics and electrothermal design concepts
• Knowledge of craftsmanship skills involved in electronics construction, such as PCB creation, circuit card assembly, soldering, etc.
• Understanding of the utility and applicability of hardware development processes 
• Comprehensive understanding of test equipment like oscilloscopes, signal generators, differential probes, multimeters, bench supplies, electronic loads, etc.

Desired Qualifications:

• Advanced degree or 12+ years relevant work experience
• Experience with multi-kilowatt converter design
• Familiarity with AC voltage systems
• Knowledge and experience with energy storage system design
• Embedded design experience is not required, exposure to it at a minimum is preferred. 
• Exposure to and/or comfort with high voltages and currents
• Experience with high-reliability systems engineering, component derating, Monte-Carlo analysis, reliability analysis, and fault-tolerant systems
• Experience with interdisciplinary teams, including:
• Comfort working with ambiguity and uncertainty
• Ability to proactively evolve work to meet the changing needs of company
• Willingness to question and refine prior requirements 
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
• Open-mindedness about possible solutions, conventional or unconventional
• Ability to identify problems, willingness to call them out constructively, and dedication to resolving them
• A history of successful mentorships, training other engineers, teaching of seminars, or authoring technically focused web pages or whitepapers

Compensation and Benefits

If hired for this full-time role, you will receive:

• Cash compensation of $165,000 - $250,000

This is an on-site position. Our offices, lab, and shop are located in Portland, Oregon.

Position Summary

A rapidly growing company is seeking an Electrical Engineer to support the design, development, validation, and improvement of board-level hardware for EV charging equipment (EVSE). This role is focused on practical electrical design work including schematic capture, component selection, prototype bring-up, debugging, and compliance-driven product development.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience developing electronic hardware for commercial or industrial products and is comfortable working across embedded control hardware, interfaces, sensing, protection, and power-related circuits. Experience with EV charging equipment, EMI/EMC mitigation, and UL or other regulatory compliance is strongly preferred. Familiarity with J1772 and ISO 15118 is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design and support board-level electrical hardware for EV charging systems.
• Develop specifications, schematics, and component selections; support PCB layout review.
• Bring up, validate, characterize, and debug prototype hardware.
• Troubleshoot analog, digital, mixed-signal, and embedded interface circuits.
• Define hardware interfaces and resolve system-level issues in collaboration with firmware and software teams.
• Maintain BOMs and support component sourcing and design updates.
• Validate and troubleshoot hardware using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power supplies, electronic loads, meters, and spectrum analyzers.
• Mitigate EMI/EMC issues through filtering, grounding, shielding, and layout review.
• Support UL and regulatory compliance efforts, including design changes driven by certification testing.
• Coordinate with manufacturers, vendors, and external test labs during prototype and production builds.
• Document design revisions, test results, and engineering changes.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Hands-on experience in board-level design for commercial or industrial electronic products.
• Proficiency in schematic capture, component selection, prototype bring-up, and hardware debugging.
• Experience with analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuits.
• Familiarity with interfaces such as SPI, I2C, CAN, Modbus, or Ethernet.
• Comfortable with standard lab equipment for validation and troubleshooting.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with EVSE or EV charging products.
• Experience with EMI/EMC troubleshooting and UL or other regulatory compliance.
• Familiarity with AC-powered systems, power electronics, relays, sensing, isolation, and protection circuits.
• Familiarity with J1772 and ISO 15118.

Final compensation will be determined based on experience and skills, but will sit in a range of $105,000 - $130,000

Engagement Structure

This role begins as a 1099 independent contractor engagement for up to three (3) months, with the intention of converting to a permanent, full-time position based on mutual fit and performance during the contract period. Benefits listed above apply upon conversion to a permanent employee.
