The base salary range for this position is $163K-$236K per year.  Aurora’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. The ML Data Service team is seeking a highly experienced and motivated Staff Tech Lead Manager (TLM) to lead the development and operation of our core machine learning data infrastructure. This critical role requires a blend of deep technical expertise in machine learning systems, large-scale data processing, and proven leadership ability to manage both individual contributors and technical direction.

The ML Data Service team is responsible for providing reliable, high-quality, and easily accessible data for all ML use cases. As owners of the "Data Engineering" phase of the ML lifecycle, they manage the most critical input to any ML system: the data itself. Our infrastructure supports hundreds of data pipelines and petabytes of data, directly enabling the success of our flagship products.

What You'll Do

Technical Leadership and Strategy

• Define and drive the technical roadmap and long-term strategy for the ML Data Service platform, ensuring it meets the evolving needs of ML engineers across the company.
• Serve as the top technical expert for the team, architecting complex, highly scalable, and fault-tolerant systems for data ingestion, transformation, and serving.
• Lead the technical vision for the provision of diverse training data sources, including ingestion from real-world drive logs, resimulation outputs, autolabelling pipelines, and human labelling efforts.
• Drive the implementation of robust mechanisms for monitoring data quality, tracking data lineage, and ensuring overall data governance and compliance.

Management and Team Growth

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with a strong focus on large-scale data systems, distributed systems, or ML infrastructure.
• 3+ years of experience managing engineering projects with a track record of delivering efficient tools and infra. Manger experience  of building and scaling high-performing teams is a strong plus (including mentoring, performance management, and career development).
• Deep expertise in data processing technologies (e.g., Spark, Flink, Beam, distributed databases) and experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, and operating production-grade ML data pipelines or feature stores.

This role is hybrid from our Boston office and requires two in-office days per week, ideally Tuesday and Thursday.

THE PROGRAM

The VEG New ER Doctor (NERD) program is designed to transform practicing non-emergency veterinarians into exceptional, confident VEG ER doctors. This six-month deep dive into the action of emergency is a structured, immersive program like no other that allows participants to transition into full-time ER doctors at VEG after successful completion. Integrating academic and clinical teachings with individualized mentorship, this program fuels a passion for ER and creates a deeper meaning around life-saving veterinary heroics. WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Work side-by-side with experienced VEG doctors who will mentor you through real ER cases, offering guidance and feedback every step of the way. This isn’t just shadowing—it’s hands-on learning with built-in mentorship.
• New ER Doctors (a.k.a. NERDS!) get up-close, firsthand ER experience, working 3-4 hospital shifts per week (days, swings, and nights), as well as through weekly case discussions, literature reviews, and hands-on training at state-of-the-art facilities.

What CE experiences can you expect to attend during the program?

Mission Summary:

The Autonomous Vehicle (AV) Test Engineering team at Motional is responsible for validating the safety, functionality, and performance of our self-driving technology through rigorous, system-level testing. As a Senior AV Test Engineer, you will take a lead role in the strategy, planning, and execution of comprehensive test campaigns that span perception, planning, and control systems across virtual, closed-course, and public road environments.

In this role, you will guide test development efforts across multiple AV subsystems, mentor junior engineers, and drive improvements to our tooling, test infrastructure, and methodologies. You will lead cross-functional initiatives that directly impact release readiness and safety assurance, translating high-level engineering requirements into scalable test plans and measurable quality outcomes. Your work will contribute to iterative development, fault injection analysis, and validation of safety-critical systems that meet the highest standards for reliability and compliance.

Essential Duties:

Technical Leadership & Validation:

• Experience leading end-to-end testing across software stacks and physical systems, including SIL, HIL, and real-world deployments.

As a senior engineer in the Next-Gen Technologies team, you will help us improve the compute performance of our current generation and next-generation autonomous driving systems through participating in full lifecycle development from idea to proofs-of-concept to production. 

Specifically, you will:

• Focus deeply on ML model deployment, integration of multiple ML models, and ML model optimization on embedded compute platforms.
• Dive deep into the full ML software stack. Analyze ML workload performance on a variety of hardware processors, optimize ML models, improve ML software, and help us continually improve our stack through the application of efficient and effective ML approaches. 
• Design, develop, test, integrate, and optimize software and tools on a variety of ML compute architectures.
• Collaborate with deep learning experts in perception, prediction, and other autonomous driving application areas to enable algorithms on GPU, NPU, and other ML accelerator architectures.
• Optimize the utilization of GPU/NPU resources and sharing of GPU/NPU access across multiple programs running on the same system.
• Lead designs to determine the needs of the system and how to best meet those needs through continually improving our ML software stack.
• Advise peers and management on technical matters.

What We’re Looking For:

• Experience with machine learning accelerators, including GPUs, NPUs, TPUs, and their programming environments, including CUDA, TensorRT, or similar technologies.
