At Gusto, we're on a mission to grow the small business economy. We handle the hard stuff — payroll, health insurance, 401(k)s, and HR — so owners can focus on their craft and their customers. With teams in Denver, San Francisco, and New York, we support more than 500,000 small businesses nationwide and are building a workplace that reflects the people we serve.
All full-time employees receive competitive base pay, benefits, and equity (RSUs) — because everyone who helps build Gusto should share in its success. Offer amounts are determined by role, level, and location. Learn more about our Total Rewards philosophy.
AI is a fundamental part of how work gets done at Gusto. We expect all team members to actively engage with AI tools relevant to their role and grow their fluency as the technology evolves. AI experience requirements vary by role and will be assessed during the interview process.
GustoPro is a cloud-based platform built specifically for accounting firms. It empowers firms to streamline payroll, people operations, and advisory services for their clients, all within a single, integrated platform. GustoPro features client dashboards, automated workflows, robust reporting, and seamless integrations with other accounting software — enabling firms to elevate their client service and accelerate practice growth. Learn more about GustoPro
As a Partner Account Executive for GustoPro, you will play a critical role in expanding Gusto's footprint within the accounting market by recruiting new accounting firm partners, enabling them to succeed on the platform, and driving them to a healthy, self-sufficient state before transitioning them to an Account Manager.
Working directly with our Head of Sales and Head of GustoPro Sales, you will shape our new partner sales motion while owning the full arc of partner activation — from first conversation to a successful handoff. The benchmark that tells us activation is working: 10 net new clients added and the firm's 30-day enablement plan complete.
You'll engage with C-level executives and senior payroll specialists at accounting firms, with a focus on large regional and national players. You'll act as a consultant, understanding their unique needs and demonstrating how GustoPro can boost efficiency and help them realize more value for their clients while delivering upside for the firm.
The Partner Onboarding Agreement — a 30-day enablement contract signed at close — is your operating document once a firm is in. It defines milestones, role responsibilities across the firm, and the incentive structure that keeps both sides accountable through activation.
We're looking for a true "builder" — someone who's excited to wear multiple hats, design systems and processes, and run experiments. Comfort with a dynamic environment and the ability to pivot when needed is essential.
Our target on-target earnings (OTE) compensation for this role is $125,000/yr to $150,000/yr in Denver, Las Vegas, Chicago, Atlanta & most remote locations, $155,000/yr to $182,000/yr for San Francisco & New York and $120,000 to $180,000 CAD for Toronto. This OTE is structured with a target 70% base pay and 30% commission pay with an uncapped commission structure. Final offer amounts and the exact base/commission split are determined by multiple factors including candidate location, experience, and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.
Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 days per week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale.
Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas.
When approved to work from a location other than a Gusto office, a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection is required. This includes non-office days for hybrid employees.
Our customers come from all walks of life and so do we. We hire great people from a wide variety of backgrounds, not just because it's the right thing to do, but because it makes our company stronger. If you share our values and our enthusiasm for small businesses, you will find a home at Gusto.
Gusto is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We do not discriminate in hiring or any employment decision based on race, color, religion, national origin, age, sex (including pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions), marital status, ancestry, physical or mental disability, genetic information, veteran status, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, or other applicable legally protected characteristic. Gusto considers qualified applicants with criminal histories, consistent with applicable federal, state and local law. Gusto is also committed to providing reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities and disabled veterans in our job application procedures. It’s why we focus deeply on how our readers will experience our journalism, from print to audio to a world-class digital and app destination. And it’s why our business strategy centers on making journalism so good that it’s worth paying for.
About the Role:
The Upshot is a versatile, multidisciplinary team in the New York Times newsroom whose mission is to help our readers understand the news — and to find new ways to explain the world we're living in.
We're looking for a data-savvy visual editor who will work with the entire Upshot desk on projects ranging from short news stories to long-term enterprise to interactive applications.
As a deputy editor, you will be part of the Upshot's leadership team, and you will influence everything we publish. Your role will involve both big-picture thinking and extreme attention to detail. Sometimes, you will edit an entire story or project from conception through publication. Other times, you'll lend a hand in making sure a visual element is precise and pixel-perfect. You're someone who can create new formats to communicate with audiences, and who also enjoys sweating the details on making an individual chart better.
You are an editor who can help reporters think through how to analyze a dataset. You should develop intuitive (and counterintuitive) ways to tell stories through charts, graphics, and other formats. You should refine visual elements, stories, and projects with meticulousness and rigor. You should dream up entirely new ways of doing journalism.
The Upshot has a wide remit. It is the home of cutting-edge data visualization, detailed policy analysis, Nate Cohn's newsletter and standalone destinations like Wordle Bot and Spelling Bee Buddy. It covers a wide range of topics, including politics, policy, health care, cities, culture, education, gender, climate and more. And it is powered by a collaborative group of journalists, including reporters with decades of experience and some of our best software developers and data visualizers.
Together, they produce work like this:
We're looking for someone who can conceive, develop, refine and edit ideas like these — and ideas we haven't even scratched the surface of.

And it’s why our business strategy centers on making journalism so good that it’s worth paying for.
The Election Analytics team produces flagship, standard-setting elections coverage, including the live, election night statistical model known as the Needle and The New York Times/Siena Poll. Both of those efforts rely on one of the most comprehensive election data operations in media, with the voter file at the core.
We’re just scratching the surface of all the journalistic products we could produce with the voter file and the rest of the data we collect — absentee files, precinct-level results, live turnout figures, poll results and more. But our tooling has not always kept pace with our ambitions.
You will be responsible for owning this mass of data end-to-end, for ensuring that we have reliable, automated pipelines for putting the data into consistent formats and for validating that the data is being transformed correctly. You will also be responsible for the tooling to work with the data, ensuring that more data journalists can leverage it without the existing steep learning curve. (We are an R shop, though prior R experience is not a necessity.) If you like solving problems for which there is little, if any, documented precedent, this would be a fun job for you.
Your work will ensure that we can even more regularly tell compelling stories about voting patterns and elections, whether they take the form of articles or evolve into new products that deliver as much insight as our polls and the Needle. You will be a key part of producing these stories and products, working with other journalists to understand the data that is available and transforming the data into new formats as needed.
You will also contribute to other areas of our elections coverage based on your skills and interest, including opportunities to pursue original reporting on your own and to collaborate on stories, graphics and tools for readers based on government, polling and other types of data.
This is an in-office position based in New York City or Washington, D.C., and includes regular attendance in the office four days each week. There may be some flexibility to work remotely per your departmental guidance.
To apply, you MUST include a cover letter of no more than 300 word that...
- described the solution you developed to a unique technical problem, preferably one around data; and
- directly addresses your interest in and experience with the type of data you expect to be working with in this role
Responsibilities:
Develop libraries in R that form the basis of our apps
Work with colleagues to onboard them to existing tools and develop new tooling as needed
Maintain the pipelines that process and score the voter file, a list of registered voters that forms the basis of much of our work
Develop tooling to support, deploy and monitor R apps in Google Cloud and Amazon Web Services
Balance engineering principles with the need to move at the speed of news
Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world
This role reports to the Director of Election Analytics
Basic qualifications:
5+ years of relevant work experience
Familiarity working with large data sets and with best practices in data management
Experience working with data-oriented programming languages, such as R or Python, specifically creating packages or libraries, debugging third-party software and otherwise using scripting languages to power complex apps
Experience working with cloud computing providers such as Google Cloud Platform or Amazon Web Services
Experience solving complex problems that require developing original solutions
Experience working on tight deadlines and making tradeoff decisions to ensure the deadlines are met
Experience working collaboratively with people of different skills and backgrounds
Willingness to work a flexible schedule as needed to support coverage of elections and polls
Preferred qualifications:
Journalistic experience or interest in reporting, particularly on elections
Experience developing ETL pipelines, working with orchestration tooling, and ensuring reliability and observability
Experience with Google BigQuery or other OLAP databases; knowledge of patterns for data warehousing and analytical stores; or knowledge of formats and tools for working locally with large data sets
Experience developing high-speed modeling applications
Experience building productionized apps, preferably HTTP-based

About Us
The human brain is the most complex object in the universe, yet society had accepted one-size-fits all approaches to cognition. If you’ve never heard that word before, it’s just a fancy way of saying brain supplements. In five years, most will be taking nootropics on the daily and chances are, they’ll be ours.

Now, we’re looking for incredible people to help us share the gift of enhanced cognitive function with the world.
