Who you are

Metropolis is seeking a Director of Operations Strategy to own the optimization and execution systems that power how we run our global operations. Reporting directly to the VP of Operations Support & Strategy, you will be the connective tissue between strategy and execution  — building the operational discipline and processes that empower our teams in the field to achieve. 

You are a rigorous analytical thinker and disciplined executor who thrives at the intersection of strategy, data, and cross-functional collaboration. You know how to structure ambiguous problems, build airtight solutions, and translate complexities into clear narratives that drive action. You are equally comfortable in a facility and a boardroom — and you understand that the best initiatives are only valuable when they actually change how the business runs.

What you'll do

• Drive execution of quarterly and annual operations planning cycles, translating company objectives into operational targets, milestones, and resource plans across field operations
• Build and maintain a suite of real-time dashboards, KPI frameworks, and reporting infrastructure that gives leadership an accurate, up-to-the-moment view of operational health across all markets
• Develop advanced forecasting models and scenario analyses that surface risks and opportunities before they impact the business, and recommend clear, prioritized action paths for each
• Identify operational inefficiencies across the business, quantify their impact, and lead structured process improvement initiatives from diagnosis through resolution
• Serve as the analytical backbone for cross-functional initiatives — providing rigorous ROI modeling and performance tracking to ensure projects stay accountable to measurable outcomes
• Partner with regional leaders and market GMs to synthesize performance data across geographies, identify what’s working, and help scale winning playbooks consistently across markets
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering to define tooling requirements that support operational scalability, acting as an informed and credible voice for the ops team in roadmap discussions
• Build and develop a lean team of strategy and analytics professionals, establishing the function’s capacity and capabilities as the business scales

What we're looking for

• 7+ years of experience in strategy, business operations, management consulting, or analytics, with at least 2 years in a leadership role at a high-growth technology or marketplace company
• Deep analytical fluency — highly proficient in Excel and SQL, with hands-on experience building and maintaining reporting infrastructure in BI tools such as Looker or Tableau
• Demonstrated ability to build financial models, scenario analyses, and forecasting frameworks that inform real, high-stakes business decisions
• Proven track record of leading cross-functional initiatives from scoping through execution — managing multiple workstreams simultaneously without losing accountability on any of them
• Clear, confident communicator who can distill complex analysis into concise, compelling narratives for senior stakeholders, with the ability to adapt the message for different audiences
• Highly self-directed with strong problem-structuring skills — capable of independently defining the approach to an ambiguous problem and driving it to a clear outcome

As a Senior Consultant – Data Engineer at The Gunter Group, you partner closely with clients and consulting teams to deliver meaningful business results through high-quality data engineering solutions. You take ownership of technical workstreams, help guide delivery, and collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to turn unstructured challenges into structured, actionable data solutions.

You contribute across a variety of industries and engagement types, applying strong technical judgment and practical problem-solving skills to design, build, and deliver data platforms and pipelines that support client goals.

Lead High-Impact Client Delivery

• Play a key role in client engagement delivery by leading data engineering workstreams and guiding TGG teams to successful project outcomes.
• Flex across delivery environments, working as an individual contributor, part of a consulting team, or as a technical or workstream lead embedded with the client.
• Apply structured methodologies, toolkits, and best practices to execute effectively and deliver high-quality data solutions.
• Embrace unstructured challenges and help turn them into actionable plans and measurable outcomes.

Deliver Data Engineering & Analytics Solutions

• Analyze requirements and design, build, debug, and deploy cloud-based data services and components.
• Build and schedule data pipelines to extract, transform, and store data across SQL databases and cloud platforms including Azure, GCP, AWS, and Snowflake.
• Explore and analyze data using Excel, Power Query, SQL, and Python, developing solutions in Python/Jupyter and presenting insights through data visualizations.
• Develop and maintain design documentation, data models, and interface specifications.
• Write unit tests and work within CI/CD, code quality, and UAT processes.

Collaborate Across Stakeholders and Teams

• Partner with client stakeholders ranging from individual contributors to senior executives to align on goals and deliver outcomes.
• Communicate effectively with IT developers, product owners, and other technical stakeholders.
• Work alongside a collaborative team of TGG consultants committed to delivering outstanding client service.
• Engage with TGG partners, principals, account leaders, managers, and peers who support your success across engagements

What You Bring 

• 6+ years of consulting or related experience with a strong track record of client service and delivering results.
• Proven ability to collaborate with non-technical stakeholders to gather requirements, plan delivery, and communicate results using clear documentation, diagrams, and presentations.
• Experience with data science and machine learning concepts and methods.
• Experience with Python, SQL, and BI/analytics tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau), and familiarity with modern programming languages and frameworks (Java, C#/.NET, JavaScript). 
• Understanding of programming paradigms, source control, and software lifecycle best practices (e.g., Git). 
• Strong knowledge of data lifecycles, including how data is collected, transformed, stored, and consumed. 
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments and translating business needs into effective technology solutions.

The total expected compensation range for this role is $130,000 to $170,000, consisting of a base salary and variable billing bonus component. About Truework

Truework, recently acquired by Checkr, provides access to crucial employment and income information needed for mortgage loans, apartment rentals, background checks, and more. We’re disrupting a $5B+ industry dominated by legacy incumbents and outdated processes. Within Checkr, Truework operates independently, allowing rapid iteration while leveraging the strengths and assets of the core business.

About the Role

This role sits on Checkr’s Operations Insights & Analytics team, directly supporting Truework’s operations team as its primary analytics partner. Truework’s operations are more complex than a typical help desk — and deeply understanding their processes will be central to your success in this role.

Truework already has some operations reporting and data infrastructure in place, but as the first dedicated analyst focused on this work, you’ll own the process of improving and expanding it. Some existing dashboards need to be rebuilt or consolidated, sources-of-truth established, and the team needs reliable performance & cost metrics. You’ll also contribute to the near-term migration from Looker to Omni Analytics.

The ideal candidate is someone who can context-switch between hands-on data work and strategic analysis, thrives in ambiguity, and is energized by making messy things clean. You should be someone who, when given a high-level goal, figures out what questions to ask, what data is needed, and what infrastructure would provide it — and then builds it.

What You’ll Do

Drive Analysis & Business Performance

• Build and maintain models for cost, headcount, and operational performance that inform leadership decisions across Truework operations
• Track and analyze team performance week-over-week, identifying trends, bottlenecks, and opportunities for efficiency gains
• Translate technical findings into clear recommendations for stakeholders at all levels, from operational teams to executive leadership

Build & Improve Reporting

• Define and standardize key operational metrics, working with stakeholders to ensure shared understanding of definitions and methodology
• Consolidate and rebuild existing dashboards, validating data accuracy and filling gaps in coverage
• Build production dashboards and self-service reporting in Omni Analytics, giving Truework’s operations teams reliable visibility into team performance

Strengthen Data Infrastructure

• Improve and expand existing data models to support reliable analytics across Truework’s operations
• Write and maintain dbt models, manage data pipelines, and work with raw database schemas to strengthen analytical foundations
• Identify and fix data quality issues — bad joins, missing records, misaligned definitions — before they become reporting problems
• Contribute hands-on to migrating Truework’s data infrastructure onto Checkr’s systems, working independently to navigate unknowns and solve technical problems as they arise

What You Bring

Required

• 5+ years of experience in analytics, data engineering, or a hybrid role — ideally in a high-growth or startup environment where you’ve had to build things from scratch
• Advanced SQL: complex joins, window functions, CTEs, query optimization. You should be able to navigate unfamiliar database schemas and figure out how data fits together.
• Hands-on experience with data modeling and pipeline tools (dbt, Airflow, or similar). You’ve built and maintained data models, not just queried them.
• Strong BI experience building production dashboards (Looker, Tableau, or similar). You know how to design reporting that’s actually useful, not just comprehensive.
• Comfort working in ambiguous environments with incomplete information. You don’t wait for perfectly defined requirements — you figure out what’s needed and start building.
• Strong communication skills: you can explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and advocate for data quality and infrastructure investments
• An A-player mindset with a strong bias for action: you raise the bar, move with urgency, stay resilient through ambiguity, and take ownership to deliver meaningful outcomes.

Preferred

• Python for data manipulation, scripting, and statistical analysis
• Experience with data migration projects — moving data between systems, reconciling schemas, validating parity
• Domain experience in operations analytics, fintech, or verification/identity services
• Familiarity with version control (Git) and software engineering practices in an analytics context
