As an Engineer, Side Door Window Mechanisms & Glass, you will be involved in the “cradle to grave” approach to design & development. Expected to create concept design for novel solutions to current and new opportunities. Lead analysis of concept and final product, testing and launch, commercial and timing activities, and work with studio, manufacturing team and purchasing.

• Generate solution: concepts in ‘napkin sketch’ - fully analyzed physical prototypes - released and launched parts.
• Lead collaborative development of components and systems including interface with body engineering, manufacturing, studio design, quality, and customer experience teams.
• Perform kinematic and structural analysis to optimize designs.
• Responsible for component release for components and systems throughout program lifecycle, including concept design, supplier engagement, BOM management, systems requirements, simulation analysis, prototyping builds, validation testing, and production support.
• Work with the manufacturing team to develop the assembly process and find solutions to manufacturing issues.
• Manage cost and weight for components and systems from initial engineering estimates, through supplier quotes. Ensuring accurate forecasting and implementation plans throughout the development.
• Developing and managing your system, subsystem, and component part information.
• Be a champion of 1st principles design methodology in the body closures systems and across the entire vehicle.
• Engage in debate and represent the department as a stakeholder during design reviews.
• Mentor and help develop other less experienced engineers.
• Coordinate supplier meetings, track, investigate and resolve issues related to design.

Location & Travel Expectations:

• This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Novi, Michigan, or Charlotte, NC.
• This role requires 4 days per week in the office, with regular in-person meetings and events. 
• Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.

• Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline (master’s degree and significant experience is a plus)
• 5-10 + years’ experience in Body Closures development or equivalent industry experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Understanding of product requirements and closures features to deliver world class customer experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Window Regulators
  • Power motors and Electrical/Software Interfaces

• Strong desire to create unique methods for analysis using tools available.
• CAD design experience for closures systems or related vehicle components. Catia V5 and/or 3DX experience preferred but not required.
• Advanced use of tools for analyzing structural performance, motion forces, kinematic performance, manufacturing options with rapid iterations.
• Knowledge of an automotive design and development process, system requirements, and general engineering best practices.
• Ability to deliver under pressure and manage component design & development within cost, weight, and timing constraints.

Initial base salary range = $110,000.00 - $135,000.00

Job Description:

• As a Electronics Resident Engineer, you will provide critical on-site hardware and electronics support at General Motors Tech Centers and Assembly Plants, particularly during launch phases.
• You will act as the vital supporting link between the Client Team and the GM Team to help design, develop, and successfully launch products.
• In this role, you will apply hands-on electronics expertise to test, diagnose, and validate automotive embedded systems while delivering high-quality service and representing the company at the customer site.

Requirements / Hardware & Electronics Engineering Contributions:

• Schematics & Circuitry: Read, interpret, and analyze complex electrical schematics to understand electronics design basics and trace circuits for diagnostic purposes.
• Lab Equipment Utilization: Operate standard electronics laboratory equipment, heavily utilizing Oscilloscopes, Multimeters, and Logic Analyzers to capture waveforms, verify signal integrity, and take precise electrical measurements during issue replication.
• PCBA Testing & Programming: Utilize JTAG debuggers to interface directly with microcontrollers for testing, debugging, and programming Printed Circuit Board Assemblies (PCBAs) at the bench level.
• Hardware Prototyping & Rework: Apply practical, hands-on experience to solder and rework Surface Mount Technology (SMT) components on automotive circuit boards.
• Embedded System Validation: Execute system validation tasks by developing a clear understanding of system bench setups and translating vehicle test cases against hardware system requirements.
• In-Vehicle & Bench Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot hardware and communication issues directly on the customer's test bench and in-vehicle. This includes actively reflashing Automotive Embedded Electronic Control Units (ECUs) with updated software or calibration files as needed.
• Root Cause Analysis: Serve as an active participant in technical problem-solving utilizing methodologies like QRQC (Quick Response Quality Control) to identify hardware failures at the component or system level.

Resident Engineering & Project Support:

• Release assigned electronics parts into the General Motor using their specific ECM process.
• Order parts to support build events and ensure the timely closure of all hardware-related ECRs and work orders.
• Co-facilitate subsystem/component Product Development Team (PDT) meetings, speaking clearly with facts and data regarding hardware performance.
• Track and maintain the delivery matrix of Bench parts, Mule Build Parts, Software, and Calibration files.
• Support the vehicle build process and sign-off activities for all prototypes and manufacturing builds (Virtual, Mule, Structural, Integration, Pre-Production, and Production).

Education & Experience:

• Bachelor's Degree in Electronics, Electrical or Computer Science.
• Entry-level experience, with an automotive internship, system validation experience, or customer service experience strongly preferred.
• Previous experience working with an automotive company is a plus.

Hardware & Electronics Skillset:

• Embedded Systems: Hands-on experience or strong academic familiarity with automotive embedded ECUs and PCBA architecture.
• Automotive Networks: Solid understanding of vehicle network architectures, specifically CAN Bus Serial communications and Automotive Ethernet communication protocols.
• Hardware Tools: Proven ability to use JTAG debuggers, oscilloscopes, multimeters, and logic analyzers.
• General Tech Skills: Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Programming knowledge in Google Scripts and VBA is considered a strong plus for data automation.

Position Summary

• Client is looking for a Warranty Hub Housing Troubleshooting Engineers to support warranty analysis and issue resolution using GIMS (Global Issue Management System).
• This role focuses on identifying, analyzing, and resolving housing-related warranty concerns, ensuring rapid containment and long-term corrective actions.
• The position sits at the intersection of warranty, quality, and engineering, making it ideal for junior-to-mid engineers looking to grow technical and analytical expertise within a global automotive OEM.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and analyze warranty claims and field data related to hub housing and associated components
• Use GIMS to track issues, document root cause investigations, and manage corrective actions
• Perform failure analysis and troubleshooting on returned parts and field reports
• Collaborate with design, manufacturing, quality, and supplier teams to identify root causes
• Support development and validation of containment, corrective, and preventive actions (CAPA)
• Prepare technical summaries, dashboards, and reports for management review
• Support plant visits, teardown activities, and supplier investigations as required

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or similar discipline
• 1–4 years of experience in warranty, quality, manufacturing, or engineering support roles
• Basic understanding of automotive systems and components, particularly housings or structural parts
• Experience or exposure to warranty systems or issue tracking tools (GIMS preferred)
• Strong analytical and data interpretation skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with field/warranty data analysis
• Familiarity with RCA,  8D problem-solving methodologies
• Exposure to manufacturing processes (casting, machining, assembly)
• Understanding of supplier quality processes
• Automotive OEM or Tier 1 supplier experience
