- ALTEN Technology is excited to announce an opening for a Ground Test Manufacturing Engineer.
- This role offers a unique opportunity to work in a specialized field within engine design and operations.
- Ground Test Division designs, manufactures and services test equipment to support development and aftermarket engine programs for all three major engine manufacturers.
- This work involves design and manufacture of final level assemblies and all subcomponents and details.
- As a Ground Test Manufacturing Engineer, you will be responsible for developing manufacturing processes and tooling design for composite parts fabrication using approved models and drawings.
- You will support production activities, troubleshoot issues, and implement process improvements to ensure efficient and high-quality manufacturing for the three to six month build schedules.
- You may be tasked with evaluating any damage from normal operations by our customers and developing repairs to restore the assembly or components to original or acceptable requirements.

Create written and illustrated manufacturing instructions, bills of material and outside purchase specifications per engineering drawings/specifications.

Develop and improve manufacturing processes and tooling for composite parts

Work with production teams to ensure manufacturability and suggest improvements.

Train production staff in new processes and techniques.

Providing manufacturing support to design throughout conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design phases, to include validation, customer approval, manufacturing, and operational service.

Support design with material selection based on usability and compatibility with current processes and equipment.

Review and disposition nonconforming material to technical requirements.

Develop and validate repair processes in conjunction with design team.

Contribute to Cost of Poor Quality efforts, challenge existing processes, and drive improvements.

Ensure compliance with established engineering methodologies

Use sound engineering judgment, technical expertise, and data analysis to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems.

A Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience

A Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 8 years experience

Effective problem identification and solution skills

Strong project ownership, execution, and proactive mentalities

Experience with mechanical manufacturing processes (machining, joints, fasteners, welding) in relevant industry positions (aerospace, defense, automotive or similar)

Experience with GD&T and print interpretation.

Experience with fiber-reinforced polymer composites, specifically: fiberglass, aramid, and/or carbon prepreg and wet layup (especially epoxy resin systems)

Experience in advanced Composite and Bonded Structures manufacturing (ie. Fiber Reinforcement, Curing, Ovens and Autoclaves, Adhesives, Surface Preparation, etc.)

Computer Aided Design Software experience: Creo / Windchill (Preferred) or NX / FiberSIM / TeamCenter

Familiarity with Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) techniques, such as ultrasonic testing, eddy current, FPI, camera optics, X-ray and others used in aerospace.

Experience with design for manufacturing & assembly

Understanding of manufacturing cost and reproducibility

Experience with implementation of PFMEAs

Design material flow processes and storage systems to establish efficient material delivery to the factory and sub-assembly lines for electric vehicle automotive components. Interface with Manufacturing Engineering, Packaging, Logistics Operations, EH&S during launch to develop Material Flow processes and systems. Identify and implement continuous improvement projects. Complete dock utilization analysis, support dynamic simulations, maintain PFEP data, calculate storage space requirements and design material delivery routes. Input and report out KPI data on a weekly basis. Develop business cases as needed for Material Flow installations. Contribute to internal document development, standards, best practices, lessons learned and training modules. Develop requirements for Material Flow equipment: fork trucks, tuggers, dollies, and lineside display. Develop station layouts for lineside operations, offline SPD cells, kitting, and repack activities. General Optimization of floor space, logistics, delivery, and display equipment in the assembly plant. Prioritize Material Flow Layout Engineer activities. Coordinate Layout Engineer and Equipment design staff activities. Experience with installation of material handling equipment such as Rack indexers, turn tables, over/under shuttles, and conveyors. New launch projects on specific production lines focusing on material flow from warehouse to the border of line location. Set up of new part numbers and engineering changes. Creation of station designs from scratch, in base of production rate and according assembly processes.
Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Automotive Engineering with 6 months experience, 40 hr/wk, $78,666/yr.
