Octus Fundamentals delivers comprehensive financial data for informed credit decisions, covering reported and standardised financials, KPIs, tear sheets, and complex capital structures for more than 3,000 corporates globally across both publicly listed and privately held companies. Our dataset encompasses corporates across the sub-investment-grade liquid credit and private credit universe. 

We are looking for a Data & Analytics Analyst to join our Fundamentals EMEA team. The successful candidate will play a central role in building and maintaining market-wide datasets that enable our subscribers – professionals across hedge funds, investment banks, and management consulting firms – to benchmark issuers across sectors, regions, instrument types, and company sizes. The role sits at the intersection of financial analysis, data engineering, and product development.

This is a hands-on, high-impact position offering direct exposure to how leading credit market participants use data in their workflows, with meaningful opportunities to shape how our products evolve.

Responsibilities:

Fundamentals Data Analytics

• Own and regularly update the Market Data file, maintaining accuracy and completeness of aggregated metrics across Octus's non-investment-grade liquid credit coverage universe
• Launch a similar Market Data file for the private credit universe 
• Respond to ad-hoc client data requests, running custom analyses and extracts to meet specific benchmarking or screening needs. This entails producing anonymised benchmarking analyses across sectors, regions, instrument types (bonds, loans) and company sizes. 

Data Quality & Mapping 

• Develop and enhance the financial data quality control framework, with the goal of minimising data errors and providing feedback and training to financial analysts on best practices.
• Collaborate with the Fundamentals financials and capital structure analyst teams to resolve data discrepancies and maintain dataset integrity
• Support internal and external mapping exercises, ensuring consistency between company identifiers, instrument references, and data sources across systems

Automation & AI

• Identify, design, and implement automation solutions to streamline repetitive data operations and reporting workflows across the Fundamentals department
• Leverage AI tools and large language models to enhance data extraction, classification, and analysis pipelines
• Build and maintain dashboards and query templates to support the broader analyst team with scalable, self-serve data access

Cross-functional Support & Product Development

• Assist the Fundamentals analyst teams with ad-hoc internal data requests, query setup, and analytical tasks
• Develop a deep understanding of how Octus clients use the platform and contribute ideas for improving data products and user experience

Requirements:

• 2+ years of experience in a data analytics, financial data, or credit research role
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Data Science, Engineering, or a related discipline
• Knowledge of financial reporting and accounting standards, and the ability to interpret financial statements and assess financial performance
• Familiarity with credit instruments and credit market dynamics; understanding of investment banking and credit analysis workflows is a strong advantage
• Advanced Excel skills including complex formulas, pivot tables, macros, Power Query, and large-dataset manipulation
• Proficiency in Python and/or SQL for data manipulation, automation scripting, and workflow optimisation
• Experience with Microsoft automation and visualisation tools: Power Automate, Power BI, or equivalent platforms
• Working knowledge of AI tools and large language models (e.g. ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude) for data extraction, document analysis, or process automation; experience building AI-assisted workflows is a plus

Octus's Fundamentals Analyst program offers a structured entry point into financial data and credit markets for hard working, intellectually curious, and motivated candidates. Working within the Fundamentals platform, you will spread and standardise financial statements from debt issuers into Excel-based models, build and maintain capital structures, calculate credit metrics, and ensure data quality and consistency across our coverage universe. You will develop a solid grounding in financial statement analysis, accounting, capital structure mechanics, and credit metrics through hands-on, detail-oriented work. You will contribute to a collaborative and action-oriented team environment.

Responsibilities

• Analyse financial reporting documents including earnings reports and presentations, offering memorandums, lender presentations, credit agreements and other
• Prepare detailed financial models including P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow, Capital Structure, Relative Performance metrics and Ratio Analysis.
• Build and maintain a coverage universe of financial models that are updated quarterly or monthly and for key events
• Leverage AI tools to improve workflow efficiency, automate repetitive tasks, and support problem solving in day-to-day analytical work
• Participate in ad hoc projects to improve the quality of the data set and our data products

Requirements 

• Graduates with degrees in economics, accounting or finance 
• An ability to interpret financial statements to evaluate business performance and understand the relationship between business drivers and financial performance, including the ability to model out these relationships quantitatively
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the tenacity to resolve complex issues
• Strong interest in credit market or financial markets in general
• Desire to learn and apply your newly acquired skills to grow professionally and personally

The salary range estimate for this position is 2,800 - 3,000 EUR monthly. The actual compensation will be at Octus’ sole discretion and will be determined by the aforementioned and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for an additional annual discretionary bonus.

This role is designed for a "Hub-and-Spoke" organizational model. The Head of Data will not manage the day-to-day tickets of embedded analysts but will own the Data Strategy, Infrastructure, and Standards that allow those analysts to be successful and consistent across the company.

Head of Data will bridge the gap between autonomous product squads and a centralized data vision. Head of Data is the architect of our data culture, ensuring that while analysts sit within different business units, they operate with a common language, world-class tools, and uncompromised data integrity.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Governance

• Unified Data Strategy: Define and execute a global data roadmap that aligns with company-wide OKRs.
• Standardization: Define universal metrics (e.g., "Active User," "Revenue") to ensure a single source of truth across all departments.
• Data Governance: Set policies for data privacy, security, and compliance (GDPR) without bottlenecking the speed of the product teams.

Platform & Infrastructure

• Modern Data Stack: Own the selection and maintenance of our data warehouse (e.g., Snowflake/Redshift), transformation layers (dbt), and BI tools (Looker/Tableau).
• Data Engineering Oversight: Lead the core data engineering efforts to ensure a robust ETL/ELT pipeline that serves the decentralized "spokes."
• Self-Service Enablement: Build the infrastructure that allows non-technical stakeholders to access insights without needing an analyst for every query.

Functional Excellence & Community

• The Data Guild: Create and lead a "Data Guild" or "Community of Practice" to facilitate knowledge sharing, peer reviews, and mentorship among embedded analysts.
• Talent Bar: Define the hiring standards, leveling rubrics, and career paths for all data roles across the company. 
• Best Practices: Drive the adoption of version control (Git), documentation, and automated testing (Data Quality) within the analytic workflows.

Business Impact & Culture

• Data Literacy: Act as an evangelist for data-driven decision-making, coaching C-suite and Product Leads on how to better leverage data.
• Resource Allocation: Partner with Department Leads to identify where data gaps exist and advocate for the placement of analysts in the highest-impact areas.

• Architectural Strategy: 6+ years of experience in Data/Analytics, with a proven track record of scaling "Hub-and-Spoke" or Data Mesh models. Demonstrated ability to balance centralized governance with decentralized execution speed.
• Strategic Influence: Proven ability to influence and align senior stakeholders (C-level, Product Leads) who do not have a direct reporting line to this role. Ability to lead through expertise and professional authority.
• Data-as-a-Product Mindset: A strategic approach to treating the data platform, tooling, and core datasets as internal products, where embedded analysts and business units are the primary customers.
• Change Management: Experience in leading organizational transitions (e.g., from centralized to decentralized) and establishing a high-performance data culture across distributed teams.
