We’re looking for a pragmatic, product-minded Backend Engineer with strong skills in Python or Go to join our Consumer Platform team – the group behind the core infrastructure and reliability that make Wolt fast, stable, and scalable.

This is a role at the intersection of backend engineering, platform thinking, and reliability. You’ll work on the systems that power critical purchase flows and the foundations that other teams build on, shaping how Wolt performs at scale.

What you’ll be doing

Day-to-day in this role, you’ll:

• Build and operate high-throughput backend services in Python and Go
• Work across the full development lifecycle, from system design to deployment and monitoring
• Improve the scalability and reliability of Wolt’s core platform
• Design and develop shared services, internal tooling, and platform-level capabilities used across teams
• Drive cross-team initiatives that raise engineering standards and system resilience
• Collaborate with product teams and other engineering groups to support critical consumer-facing flows

AI-First Engineering in Consumer Platform

We’re building platform teams at the forefront of agentic software development. This goes beyond code generation. We’re interested in engineers who:

• Design workflows where AI agents assist or own parts of the development loop
• Think critically about what should be automated versus human-reviewed
• Build tooling and abstractions that make AI-assisted backend development safer and more effective
• Stay curious about new models, tools, and approaches, and form strong opinions on what actually works

You've been experimenting with AI agents and agentic coding workflows - not because someone told you to, but because you couldn't help yourself. You think about how to redesign your development loop from first principles, not how to bolt AI onto the way you already work.

We’re looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to join our SRE team within our Infrastructure & Production group. Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) is responsible for our infrastructure development and maintenance. Our architecture consists of both cloud and bare metal solutions.

We believe in automating our infrastructure as much as possible and pursuing challenging problems in a sustainable and repeatable way. Currently, our infrastructure processes petabytes of data every month through thousands of servers and we are moving towards a Hybrid Cloud environment where we utilize the best of both worlds to build scalable production and development environments. Our team utilizes SRE and DevOps principles as our way of working.

Our toolchain

• Hybrid Cloud: 2500+ dedicated servers, supplemented with a mix of private and public cloud
• Infrastructure as code: Ansible and Terraform and AWS CDK
• Kubernetes “the hard way” on 2000+ dedicated servers
• We also run supporting infrastructure like PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Cassandra, ElasticSearch, VictoriaMetrics, HAProxy, Clickhouse, Aiven, Kafka and more

We are currently working in a hybrid mode where the team visits the office three days a week. 

You'll need:

• Production experience with distributed/scalable systems and/or high traffic web applications
• Experience in running large scale production with Kubernetes.
• Experience working with public cloud environments, preferably AWS.
• Experience with configuration management systems such as Ansible.
• Extensive knowledge of the Linux operating system.
• Troubleshooting skills that range from diagnosing low-level OS issues to large-scale failures within distributed systems
• Knowledge of how the web works and HTTP fundamentals
• Knowledge of IP networking, DNS, load balancing and firewalling
• Knowledge in good security practices, including network security, system hardening, secure software.
• Ability and willingess to work three days a week in our Helsinki office.

Bonus points, if you have:

• Good knowledge of at least one programming language. Smartly uses e.g. Python, Ruby and NodeJS
• Experience in containerising applications and deployment to production (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Experience in building large scale modern infrastructure in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, etc)
• Experience in SQL, building complex queries and debugging query performance
• Experience with SQL databases like PostgreSQL, NoSQL stores like Redis or anything in between
• Familiarity with automated build pipelines, continuous integration, delivery and deployment. Currently we're deploying to production ~2000 times/week.
• Experience building large-scale data processing pipelines
