This role in a nutshell:

As a Senior Security Engineer (Data), you will work closely with fellow security engineers to design, build, and deploy data solutions that drive organisation-wide security value. To do this, you will build and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines and data models within data warehouses. An example pipeline being ingesting data from multiple security and technology observability tools to gather, analyse, synthesise, and develop visualisations and reporting in service of continuous improvement of security controls. 

Your solutions will enable cyber defence, attack surface and security controls engineers to proactively identify hidden problems and patterns in data and use these insights to amplify weaknesses and drive improvements to coding hygiene and system architecture. This is a great opportunity for someone who is motivated to use data to drive security improvements, and best practices across a business with wide-ranging impact, and loves working in collaborative, and supportive environments.

Your key outcomes will be:

• Help architect, design, and deploy new features, and functionality in a unified OVO security data platform to enable security engineers to optimise and automate cyber defence, attack surface and security controls assurance processes.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest security data and AI trends, tools, and technologies to ensure the team’s technical approach is innovative.
• Foster an inclusive team environment where everyone feels valued and excited to contribute.
• Communicate optimally with collaborators to explain concepts and drive informed decision making.

Within your first 3 months month you’ll:

• Gain a comprehensive understanding of our existing security data sources, data pipelines, warehouse, and security operations principles.
• Contribute to the development and enhancing of our security data and AI model architectures 
• Guide and educate other teams about effective security data and AI practices and opportunities.

You’ll be successful in this role if you…

• Data automation and AI-enablement: Develops tooling to automate security tasks (e.g. triaging, routing and tracking findings from vulnerability scanners, alert handlers, compliance monitoring and evidence collection). Can contribute to security-focused codebases. Publishes automation processes or AI tooling to code repositories or an app store. Build and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines and data models within data warehouses.
• Secure development: Able to build, test and deploy single components in a system with minimal support, and understand how the component fits into the wider architecture. Configure secure cloud environments (GCP). Can describe how code, CI/CD and cloud security posture management (CSPM) tooling works. 
• Decision support and behaviour change: Design and build decision-support and training tools that actively account for human factors. Design and develop intuitive communications, dashboards and reports that guide users toward key insights and minimise cognitive load. Analyse user interaction data to identify where decision-makers struggle and propose concrete design improvements. Proactively reframe security questions or metrics to mitigate common biases, such as presenting data in terms of both gains and losses to avoid framing effects.
• Mentor Junior Engineers: Actively mentor associate and mid-level security engineers. Provide technical guidance on security and data concepts and tools, review their work (e.g. assessment reports, proposed controls), share knowledge and experience, and support their professional development within the team.
• Community of Practice: Contribute to the security engineering Community of Practice (CoP) by leading discussions, sharing practices, offering firsthand experience to the wider community, engaging in knowledge exchange / cross-pollination to further your craft. Create content and and individually contribute to the stated successful outcomes for the CoP.

We’ll pay you between £52,800 - £76,038, depending on your specific skills and experience.

The Role
We’re looking for a Senior Data Engineer with AWS to join our growing team of engineering experts driving next-gen transformation for Tier 1 financial services clients. You’ll play a pivotal role in designing, building, and deploying cloud-based data pipelines. Working across greenfield projects and enterprise-scale platforms, your work will directly impact the way data is ingested, transformed, and served at scale across the financial services industry.

This role will sit in our Scotland office, with a need to potentially work in either Glasgow or Edinburgh depending on client expectations.

What You’ll Do

• Design and build end-to-end data pipelines leveraging AWS-native tools and modern data architectures.

• Collaborate with clients to gather requirements, define solutions, and deliver production-grade systems.

• Apply AWS Well-Architected Principles to ensure scalability, security, and resilience.

• Lead in the development of robust, tested, and fault-tolerant data engineering solutions.

• Support and mentor junior engineers, contributing to knowledge sharing across the team.

What We’re Looking For

• Proficient in one of Python, Scala or Java with strong experience in Big Data technologies such as: Spark, Hadoop etc.

• Practical knowledge of building real-time event streaming pipelines (e.g., Kafka, Spark Streaming, Kinesis).
• Proficiency in AWS cloud environments.
• Proven experience developing modern data architectures including Data Lakehouse and Data Warehousing.

• A solid understanding of CI/CD practices, DevOps tooling, and data governance including GDPR.

Bonus Points For

• Expertise in Data Modelling, schema design, and handling both structured and semi-structured data.

• Familiarity with distributed systems such as Hadoop, Spark, HDFS, Hive, Databricks.

• Exposure to AWS Lake Formation and automation of ingestion and transformation layers.

• Background in delivering solutions for highly regulated industries.

• Passion for mentoring and enabling data engineering best practices across teams.

We are seeking an experienced Embedded Linux/Software Engineer to join our Platform team (folks looking after the spacecraft). The successful candidate will play a crucial role in developing software for our satellite systems, contributing to the expansion and enhancement of our space-based data collection capabilities. Ideal candidates will embrace the commercialization of nanosatellite systems and adapt to low-cost, fast-paced systems design, development, and implementation methodologies that set Spire apart from our competition. In this fast-paced environment, the design to launch cycle is measured in weeks and months, not years!

What You’ll Do as a Embedded Linux/Software Engineer:

• Maintain and develop daemons that interface with embedded systems using low-level protocols and higher-level protocols for business logic
• Implement communication interfaces between embedded systems and higher-level processes
• Integrate C libraries for specific hardware interfaces
• Contribute to the design and implementation of fault-tolerant systems
• Collaborate closely with the Electrical Engineering team to ensure optimal software-hardware integration
• Spin up new designs and maintain existing products with Yocto - focused on
• Xilinx MPSoC systems, but we also support number of other systems

Key Skills:

• C/C++, Bash and Python
• Proficiency working with the Yocto framework: (for application design and base OS modifications including kernel modules)
• Knowledge of a Linux-based development environment (Ubuntu)
• Experience with real-time communication protocols (low level: CAN/UART/SPI/I2C)
• Experience with inter-process communication protocols (higher level mostly IP based)
• Understanding of electronics and ability to communicate effectively with hardware engineers (especially for board bring up and test)
• Excellent documentation skills Preferred Skills: Working knowledge or Rust would be a bonus
• Familiarity with safety-critical embedded systems in any industry
• Knowledge of version control systems, particularly Git and GitHub
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines
• Experience with project management tools
• Understanding of cybersecurity principles for embedded systems
• Knowledge of telemetry and command systems
• Experience with formal verification methods for critical software components
• Experience in implementing Fault Detection, Isolation, and Recovery (FDIR) systems for embedded applications Tools and Technologies: · C, C++
