Principal Quality Engineer
Role Summary
As Principal Quality Engineer based in Aachen, you are the technical authority for quality across our optical product line and regional quality lead for European operations. You will bridge HQ (San Jose) and the Aachen manufacturing site, drive quality integration for in-house optical manufacturing, lead supplier quality for regional semiconductor and optical vendors, and support Asia-based RMA activities for in-region products.
Key Responsibilities
Quality‑System Integration: Lead ISO 9001 alignment between San Jose HQ, Aachen, and other regional locations to harmonize procedures, audit schedules, and corrective action processes across both semiconductor and optical product lines.
Process Development & Implementation: Design, document, and roll out new quality processes, procedures, and work instructions needed to support emerging photonics products and manufacturing capabilities.
In‑Process Inspection & Controls: Oversee in‑process inspection activities for the in‑house manufacturing operation, establishing SPC, go/no‑go checkpoints, and real‑time defect‑tracking dashboards.
Supplier Quality (Optics): Provide technical support and quality assurance for optical‑component and optical‑coating suppliers; conduct supplier audits, and drive corrective‑preventive actions (CAPA).
Supplier Quality (Semiconductor): Serve as the regional point of contact for semiconductor suppliers, monitoring supplier performance, assisting with supplier audits, and leading issue resolution.
Product Quality: Core Semiconductor Business – Lead technical investigation of field returns, warranty claims, and reliability failures for semiconductor and optical products; coordinate 8D root-cause analysis and interface with Field Application Engineers (FAEs).
Cross‑Site Liaison: Act as the primary conduit between the Aachen site, other European/EMEA sites, and the San Jose HQ for quality information exchange, escalation handling, and best‑practice sharing.
Metrics & Reporting: Define, track, and report key quality KPIs (PPM, DPMO, warranty cost, MTBF, supplier defect rate, etc.) to senior leadership across the BU and corporate HQ.
Quality Improvement: Lead and demonstrate the application of advanced quality improvement techniques including Lean, Six‑Sigma, and other methods to reduce waste, improve yield, and enhance overall product reliability.

The role
We are looking for a Principal Engineer (JetBrains Cloud Platform, Developer Experience) to drive large-scale improvements to the development experience across the JCP.
This role focuses on making JCP engineers faster and more productive by improving build systems, CI/CD pipelines, local development workflows, tooling infrastructure, and AI pipelines. You will own the developer experience end to end – from how engineers develop, build, and test locally to how code moves through CI and reaches production. As this is a rapidly growing platform, many workflows and processes are still maturing. You will define what a great development experience looks like and drive the organization toward it.
As part of the team, you will:
- Own and drive the strategy for developer experience improvements across the entire JCP platform.
- Optimize build systems (Gradle, Nx, and others) for faster builds, better caching, and reliable reproducibility at scale.
- Set up AI development pipelines, managing context, agents, and handoffs, and leveraging tools developed within the JCP.
- Improve CI/CD pipelines – reduce build times, increase reliability, optimize resource usage, and shorten feedback loops across TeamCity and GitHub.
- Improve containerized development workflows (Docker, Dev Containers) to ensure fast and consistent local environments.
- Identify and eliminate bottlenecks in the development cycle – from code commit to production deployment.
- Establish best practices, tooling standards, and shared infrastructure that enable all teams to move faster.
- Collaborate with platform and product teams to understand pain points and deliver high-impact improvements.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has extensive experience with build systems (Gradle, Maven, or Bazel) and a track record of optimizing them at scale.
- Has strong expertise in CI/CD systems (GitHub Actions, TeamCity, Jenkins, or similar) and knows how to ensure high performance and reliability.
- Has hands-on experience with Docker and containerized development workflows.
- Understands the full software development life cycle and can reason about developer productivity holistically.

JetBrains Central provides three core capabilities:
Governance and control: Policy enforcement, identity and access management, observability, auditability, and cost attribution for agent-driven work. Some of these functionalities are already available via the JetBrains Central Console.
Agent execution infrastructure: Cloud agent runtimes and computation provisioning that allow agents to run reliably across development environments.
Agent optimization and context: Shared semantic context across repositories and projects, enabling agents to access relevant knowledge, and task routing to the most appropriate models or tools.
Inside the Professional Services department, we are building a team of Forward Deployed Engineers to help our customers adopt AI-native development with JetBrains Central and enable JetBrains consulting partners to transform their customers’ AI-native software development lifecycle.
As a Principal Forward Deployed Engineer, you will work directly with early adopter customers to deploy JetBrains Central platform into complex enterprise environments and help them move from experimental AI usage to governed, scalable AI-native development.
You will act as a trusted advisor to customer engineering teams and consulting partners, while also mentoring other Forward Deployed Engineers and helping with complex deployments. In this role, you will help establish best practices for enterprise AI adoption and influence how organizations implement AI-driven software development.
This role is often a strong fit for engineers who have previously served as Principal or Staff Engineers, Heads of Engineering, CTOs, or Solutions Architects and who enjoy working directly with customers while staying deeply involved with complex technical systems.
This role combines consulting, architecture, and hands-on engineering. Your work in the field will directly influence how our platform evolves and how enterprises adopt AI-driven development.
You will work directly with the world’s most innovative companies — our client base includes 420 of the Fortune 500 — ensuring they maximize the value of their JetBrains investments.

As a (Principal) Senior C++ Engineer in the Remote Driving Platform team, you will work on the foundational software stack that powers Vay’s driverless fleet. This is the layer that everything else depends on: health management, telemetry, safety integrations, compute performance, and the core platform enabling safe operation on public roads without a safety driver.
You will operate at the intersection of software architecture, performance engineering, and hardware evaluation, shaping the compute backbone of our remote driving system. Your work directly impacts safety, scalability, and our ability to deploy and operate thousands of vehicles globally.
Owning the platform means owning reliability, performance, and developer velocity across the organization. The scope is deep, highly technical, and critical to Vay’s long term success.
We are open to hiring at either Senior or Principal level, depending on experience and scope of ownership.
You will design and evolve the common software platform components that other engineering teams build upon. Your work will ensure that our remote driving stack is performant, observable, and production ready at scale.
