The team:

Proton VPN enables millions of people to connect securely and privately, even in places where the internet is restricted or unreliable. Delivering that experience means our service must perform flawlessly under highly variable, real-world conditions.

We are looking for a Senior Performance Engineer to lead our efforts in making Proton VPN the fastest, most resilient, and most reliable VPN service in the world.

You will define and drive the measurement, analysis, and optimization of Proton VPN’s end-to-end performance, across clients, platforms, and global infrastructure. You’ll help ensure that every connection is fast, stable, and private, regardless of where the user is or what network they’re on.

What you will do: 

• Design and own Proton VPN’s performance framework, defining metrics and KPIs that reflect the real-world experience of users (time-to-connect, throughput, latency, stability, reconnection rates, etc.).
• Develop distributed testing systems that simulate real network conditions, including low bandwidth, packet loss, and high-latency scenarios.
• Continuously measure and analyze performance across platforms (desktop, mobile, backend) and regions to identify bottlenecks and regressions.
• Collaborate with backend, R&D, and client teams to optimize protocol handling, connection setup, routing, and encryption performance.
• Create dashboards, reports, and automated alerts to track global performance health.
• Contribute to the design of resilient connectivity strategies that adapt dynamically to variable network conditions.
• Serve as the performance champion within the engineering organization, mentoring others and driving a data-driven performance culture.

Job requirements: 

Technical Skills

• 5+ years of experience in performance engineering or systems QA, ideally in networking, VPNs, or distributed systems.
• Knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, TLS, WireGuard, debugging, manipulating, and performance profiling tools.
• Proven ability to analyze latency, throughput, and stability metrics across multiple layers (client, OS, transport, application).
• Proficiency in Python (or similar scripting language)
• Familiarity with network emulation and simulation tools (e.g., tc/netem, iperf, IPTables/nfTables…).
• Experience with monitoring and observability stacks (Grafana, Prometheus, Loki) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Cross-platform experience with Linux, macOS, Windows, Android, and iOS preferred.

We're looking to hire for our Data side of our AI team at Speechify. This role is responsible for all aspects of data collection to support our model training operations. We are able to build high-quality datasets at petabyte-scale and low cost through a tight integration of infrastructure, engineering, and research work. What You’ll Do

• Be scrappy to find new sources of audio data and bring it into our ingestion pipeline
• Operate and extend the cloud infrastructure for our ingestion pipeline, currently running on GCP and managed with Terraform.
• Collaborate closely with our Scientists to shift the cost/throughput/quality frontier, delivering richer data at bigger scale and lower cost to power our next-generation models.

• BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or a related field.
• 5+ years of industry experience in software development.

As a fullstack cross-platform Android Engineer, you'll play a pivotal role in developing Proton Inbox using Jetpack Compose and Rust. You’ll use an end-to-end ownership approach, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality, scalable solutions that will delight our customers.

The Role
As an engineer on our Apple team you’ll build and ship features across Proton’s apps on iPhone, iPad and macOS, working closely with product and engineers across the company to define what “great” looks like on Apple platforms. Our codebase is primarily Swift with some Go, and we’re moving to a platform-independent Rust logical core that communicates with Swift via a generic interface, so Rust experience is a strong plus. Quality is central to the role: you’ll contribute to and maintain our testing stack, including unit tests for business logic, stubbed API tests for pseudo-integration, snapshot tests for UI and XCUITest for end-to-end user flows. The team:

ProtonVPN runs on a distributed architecture of Linux servers and a set of apps available on each major platform (Windows, Android, iOS, macOS, and Linux) that interact with our infrastructure.

As a member of the ProtonVPN Research and Development team, you will work on maintaining the security of ProtonVPN’s infrastructure, improving its overall performance, designing and implementing new features. On any given day, you might code in C or Rust, script in Python or Lua, create patches for the Linux kernel, or debug system-level issues on different operating systems. The team:

Our business unit, Inbox, is a cross-functional team of about 60 engineers, product managers, designers and data analysts driving the development of Proton Mail, the company’s flagship product, and Proton Calendar. The Role
As an engineer on our Apple team you’ll build and ship features across Proton’s apps on iPhone, iPad and macOS, working closely with product and engineers across the company to define what “great” looks like on Apple platforms. Our codebase is primarily Swift with some Go, and we’re moving to a platform-independent Rust logical core that communicates with Swift via a generic interface, so Rust experience is a strong plus. Quality is central to the role: you’ll contribute to and maintain our testing stack, including unit tests for business logic, stubbed API tests for pseudo-integration, snapshot tests for UI and XCUITest for end-to-end user flows. The Proton Drive Desktop Team

Proton Drive is our secure, private cloud storage and collaborative editing suite, with clients on Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, and Web. One platform is missing: Linux. You will build it from scratch. This is a greenfield project with high visibility inside Proton and across the open-source community — our entire client codebase is published under an open-source license, and this will be the first public example of how to build a native application on top of the Proton Drive SDK. You will work closely with our Windows and Mac engineers to ensure feature parity, and you will contribute to our platform-agnostic SDK and CLI tooling as the Linux surface area demands it. If building something that the Linux community has been waiting for, and doing it in the open, is the kind of work that gets you out of bed — this role is for you.

Tech Stack and Tools

• Linux desktop application development (GTK+ or Qt)

• Linux packaging and distribution (Debian, Fedora-based)

What You'll Do

• Own the design and implementation of the Proton Drive Linux desktop client, built greenfield from the ground up.
• Ensure the codebase meets the standard expected of production open-source software — it will be read and built upon by developers beyond Proton.
• Integrate deeply with Linux-specific system components, including the filesystem layer for our file synchronization engine.
• Contribute to our platform-agnostic SDK and CLI tooling to ensure Linux features are properly exposed for scripting and cross-client use.
• Build and maintain cross-client automated and end-to-end tests in collaboration with Windows and Mac engineers.
• Define and implement application telemetry to support performance analysis, debugging, and customer support.
• Own the build pipelines, packaging, and distribution across major Linux distros.

Job requirements:

• 5+ years of experience in software development of Linux-based desktop client software, both with and without a visible interface (i.e., GUI apps as well as CLI apps).
• Applied best practices in code quality paradigms
• Experience with DevOps principles and practices (CI/CD, etc)
• Experience with source control flow through Git (code reviews, branching and merging, etc)
• Open-source Linux development, distribution, packaging and maintenance for multiple distros (e.g. on Debian or Fedora-based platforms)
• Overall, handling the entire SDLC, end to end

Nice to have:

• Experience in Linux desktop client development (in particular through the GTK+ framework, or alternatively QT)
• Experience in Rust

THE WORK

We are seeking a new Staff Software Engineer to join the Platform Engineering team of our Custody department. You'll play a key role in shaping our engineering practices, ensuring the reliability and performance of our platform across a multi-cloud environment, and empowering our engineering team to deliver innovative features with speed and efficiency. You will drive improvements in our automation, observability, and overall platform stability.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Design, build, and maintain scalable and resilient infrastructure across Cloud providers such as Azure, AWS, GCP and IBM Cloud.
• Automating work including infrastructure needs, testing, failover solutions, failure mitigation, and much more.
• Implement and manage monitoring, alerting, and logging systems to ensure system visibility.
• Develop and maintain our CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI.
• Proactively identify and resolve potential performance bottlenecks and reliability issues.
• Participate in on-call rotations to address production incidents and provide support for service engineers with customer incidents.
• Collaborate closely with development teams to integrate and deploy services efficiently.
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of our internal platform tools and services.
• Lead the implementation of standard methodologies for DevOps and SRE within the engineering organization.
• Document processes and procedures.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

• 10+ years’ experience with software engineering, platforming engineering or system operations on high available and high traffic environments
• Strong experience with Linux-based infrastructures, Linux/Unix administration
• Experience with databases such as PostgreSQL
• Experience administering Linux servers as well as docker based infrastructure (like Kubernetes, AKS, etc.) in a highly available environment
• Experience of scripting languages such as Go or Bash
• Experience with message broker/queue technologies like RabbitMQ, AMQP 1.0
• Experience with modern monitoring, logging and observability tools in complex distributed systems such as with Application Insights, Grafana, Elastic stack, Datadog, Prometheus, etc
• Practical experience with infrastructure-as-code (with tools like Terraform)
• Familiarity with GitOps deployment practices using ArgoCD or Flux
• Good understanding of cybersecurity fundamentals and best practices
