We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help build the next generation of Oura’s health experiences. In this role you’ll work across services and platforms – collaborating with mobile, backend, data, and product partners – to ship features that meaningfully improve our members’ health and wellbeing.

You’ll join one of our cross-functional product squads (for example Metabolic Health, Heart Health, Movement, or Advisor) depending on business need, your background, and your interests. You’ll be a key technical partner in taking ideas from early discovery all the way to reliable, scalable production systems.

This is an on-site (Helsinki or Oulu) or remote Finland-based senior role. We are not able to relocate people for this role.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain production services and features that power Oura’s consumer experiences, from APIs and data pipelines to user-facing flows in our mobile apps.
• Partner closely with iOS, Android, data science, product, design, and health experts in a cross-functional squad to deliver high-quality, member-facing functionality.
• Take end-to-end ownership of problems: clarifying requirements, proposing solutions, driving technical design, implementing, testing, releasing, and iterating based on data and feedback.
• Improve code quality, performance, and reliability through thoughtful refactoring, observability, and automation (including testing, alerting, and deployment practices).
• Contribute to and sometimes lead architectural discussions that span multiple services or surfaces, helping us scale our systems and keep them resilient as we grow.
• Mentor other engineers through code reviews, pairing, design reviews, and informal coaching, raising the overall bar for the team.

Depending on the squad, you may also:

• Integrate with external partners and platforms (for example biosensors, payment providers, or AI platforms).
• Help design and ship AI- or ML-powered features, working closely with data science and health science partners.

Teams take full ownership of their code and handle everything from concepting, design and implementation to release, maintenance and bug fixes. 

About the role

The Health Intelligence team is at the forefront of integrating modern AI and LLMs into the Oura experience, transforming how members interact with and learn from their data. We are building the next generation of AI-powered health guidance at Oura, blending traditional ML with modern LLMs, reasoning systems, and robust evaluation - not as “chatbots with vibes,” but as rigorously evaluated components that explain decisions, surface trade-offs, and adapt member journeys over months and years.

We’re looking for an Engineering Manager with a strong backend or data science background who is already acting as a team lead or de‑facto lead and wants to grow on the managerial track while still staying partially hands-on.

In this role you will:

• Lead a multi-disciplinary group of Senior AI Engineers and Senior AI Scientists working on LLM-backed workflows, evaluation pipelines, personalization logic, and intervention models.
• Split your time between people leadership and delivery (majority) and hands-on contributions (e.g., technical design reviews, code or experiment work, prototyping, debugging) where it helps unblock the team or de‑risk a problem.
• Partner closely with product, data, and science leadership to ensure we build AI that is grounded in data, constrained by guardrails, and measured by outcomes and behavior change – not just engagement metrics.

This is a great fit for someone who has been a tech lead / lead engineer / lead data scientist, enjoys coaching others and coordinating complex work, and now wants to formalize that into an Engineering Manager role without giving up all contact with the code and models.

What you will do

You don’t need to do all of these on day one, but these are the kinds of problems you’ll own:

• Lead and grow a high-performing AI engineering team: Manage, coach, and develop a group of AI Engineers and Scientists working on LLMs, applied ML, evaluation, and behavior/health modeling.
• Act as a “player‑coach” for AI initiatives: Focus primarily on people leadership and coordination while occasionally contributing hands-on to design reviews, code/experiment work, and prototyping to de‑risk and unblock.
• Own delivery for critical AI work in Health Intelligence: Drive planning, scoping, and execution for Advisor, Adaptive Insights, notifications, and related AI features with clear milestones and predictable delivery.
• Create a strong partnership model across product, science, and engineering: Align people around shared problem definitions, success metrics, and evaluation strategies.
• Provide technical leadership and guardrails: Stay close enough to the technical and scientific work to support sound decisions and guide trade-offs between complexity, cost, latency, and long-term maintainability.
• Shape how we evaluate and operate AI systems in production: Ensure robust evaluation, monitoring, incident response, and continuous improvement practices for LLM- and ML-powered workflows.
• Foster healthy, sustainable ways of working: Build a team culture that balances ambition with sustainability, clear priorities, psychological safety, and a growth mindset.

Requirements

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

• 5+ years of experience as a backend engineer or data scientist shipping production systems used by real users.
• 1–3 years as a tech lead or de‑facto lead coordinating work and mentoring others, with a clear interest in moving into formal people management.
• Practical exposure to ML or LLM-powered systems and comfort working closely with scientists and ML engineers on real product problems.
• Demonstrated ability to own cross-functional projects end‑to‑end from problem framing through rollout and follow-up iteration.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to align engineers, scientists, and product partners and explain trade-offs clearly.
• Desire to spend most time on people leadership and coordination while keeping a smaller, well-defined slice for high-leverage hands-on work.
• Comfort operating in a fast-changing AI/LLM landscape, learning continuously, and keeping member safety and value at the center.

The Health Intelligence team operates within the HealthOS mission, enabling other teams to efficiently deliver personalized solutions that help members build sustainable, empowered relationships with their health. We’re at the forefront of integrating Generative AI and LLMs into the Oura experience, transforming how members interact with and learn from their data.

Our team builds both member‑facing intelligence (e.g. guidance, insights, companion‑like experiences like Oura Advisor) and the platform foundations that power them: modular components, shared libraries, and clear APIs that let other teams plug into HealthOS capabilities quickly and safely. Our work is central to Oura’s evolution into an intelligent health companion.

We are now looking for a Senior / Staff Product Manager to join this team in Helsinki or Oulu, Finland, helping to define and ship the next generation of health intelligence experiences. We are open to hiring at Senior or Staff level, depending on experience. This is a senior individual contributor role with significant scope and visibility. You will work closely with product and executive leadership on the strategy for Oura’s intelligent health companion, and you will often be the person connecting company-level goals to concrete roadmaps.

What you will do:

• Shape the vision for Oura’s intelligent health companion: Define and evolve a product vision for how Oura creates deeply personalized, trustworthy and actionable health experiences for millions of members. Bring to life frameworks that combine models, UX, content and behavioral insight into experiences that feel truly empathetic and human.
• Own outcomes across both experience and platform layers: Drive a roadmap that balances delightful member-facing features with robust, scalable platform capabilities (APIs, shared services, data, and AI building blocks) for other teams.
• Lead Intelligence product initiatives end‑to‑end: From problem discovery to launch and iteration, define use cases where LLMs and other AI approaches truly add value, design interactions and safety guardrails and work closely with engineering, design and data teams to ship them into production and learn quickly.
• Deeply understand our members and their health journeys: Partner with research, science, and data teams to understand member needs, behaviors, and outcomes. Map end‑to‑end journeys, identify key pain points, and prioritize the problems that matter most.
• Partner with senior and executive leaders: Structure clear narratives and options for high impact decisions, connect intelligence work to company level goals and use measurable outcomes to build trust and alignment across Oura.
• Measure impact and learn fast: Define success metrics, instrumentation needs, and experimentation plans for Health Intelligence features. Use data and member feedback to iterate rapidly and continuously improve.

Requirements

We would love to have you on our team if you have:

• Product Experience: 7+ years of Product Management experience in consumer technology or AI-first products, with a proven track record of shipping successful products at scale in high-bar product cultures.
• Production (Gen)AI Experience: You have shipped LLM features or Agents in a live, high-traffic production environment. You have hands-on experience with prompt engineering, interaction design, and managing the cost/performance implications of AI at scale.
• Technical Authority: You possess deep technical literacy, ideally stemming from a background in engineering or data science. You understand the specific constraints of shipping GenAI at scale (latency, token costs, context windows, RAG architectures) and can lead technical roadmap discussions on API design and platform modularity. You bridge the gap between abstract product needs and concrete engineering specifications.
• Strategic Planning: Ability to work backwards from a desired solution and timing, creating clear specs and roadmaps that drive alignment.
• Drive internal adoption of Health Intelligence capabilities: Work closely with other product teams to identify the highest value integration points, shape reusable patterns and ensure that the platform is well documented, understood and reliably supports their roadmaps.
