As a Senior ML Engineer at Shopmonkey, you will be a part of a globally distributed engineering team working closely with your product and design counterparts. You will have the chance to work on the frontier of ML modeling, data pipelines, MLOps, and agentic AI systems to meet real-world auto shop needs. You’ll move fast to bring ML systems from discovery all the way through production, helping to shape the future of the automotive care experience. For any Bay area based candidates, this would be hybrid with 2-3 days/week office at our Morgan Hill, CA office for collaboration.
What you will do:
- Design, build, and ship production-ready ML models across a range of problem spaces: regression, classification, clustering, ranking, and recommendation systems.
- Conduct end-to-end development of ML systems: data gathering, experimentation, feature engineering, model training, evaluation, deployment, and monitoring.
- Define and track model performance metrics, run A/B tests, and iterate based on real-world feedback.
- Help design and implement shared feature stores so that reusable features can serve multiple models consistently in both batch and real-time contexts.
- Work within a modern MLOps environment to ensure scalable and reliable deployment of models.
- Contribute to training infrastructure, model versioning, and CI/CD pipelines for ML workflows.
- Work closely with data scientists and data engineers to develop data driven solutions that are high impact for businesses.
- Translate complex ML workflows into digestible updates for cross-functional stakeholders.
- Contribute to backlog velocity by owning appropriate tickets and delivering high-impact work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
- Implement NLP and LLM-powered components for sentiment analysis, real-time conversation evaluation, and behavior optimization.
- Contribute to analytics and predictive features such as no-show prediction and sentiment dashboards.
- Help build and ship AI agents that help automate key auto-shop business processes.
We are looking for people who have:
- Minimum of 5+ years of industry experience in applied machine learning; advanced degrees (Master’s or PhD) may offset years of experience.
- Proven experience shipping models into production (not just proof-of-concepts or notebooks).
- Proficiency in Python; experience with ML frameworks like PyTorch or Tensorflow.
- Strong foundations in classical ML/DL. Including some of the following: regression, classification, clustering, ranking, feature engineering, model evaluation, and experimentation.
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills—comfortable working with PMs, designers, engineers and other cross functional team members.
Nice to have:
Candidates should have some experience in one or more of the following areas.
- Understanding of MLOps principles: model versioning, orchestration, evaluation, monitoring, model serving, and CI/CD for ML.
- Understanding of MLOps, and experience with modern tooling like MLFlow, DVC, Airflow, etc.
- Experience with LLMs and NLP frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, Hugging Face, LangChain).
- Experience with/interest in LLM workflows and agentic workflows
- Cloud infrastructure experience, (e.g. GCP, AWS).
- Familiarity with vector databases (e.g. Pinecone, pgvector) and embedding-based retrieval or similarity search.
- Strong SQL skills for working with large-scale data.
- Experience designing or contributing to feature stores (e.g. Feast, VertexAI Feature Store, Tecton) for shared, reusable feature pipelines.
Bonus Points:
- Prior experience working at a high growth startup.
- Experience building consumer-facing agents in vertical SaaS, in the automotive industry (business or consumers).
- Background in data processing or real-time analytics.
- Experience with Snowflake or other large-scale data warehouse solutions.
In the United States, the range is typically a salary of $165,000 to $200,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. The range provided is Shopmonkey’s reasonable estimate of the base compensation for this role. The actual amount will be based on job-related and non-discriminatory factors such as location, experience, training, skills, and abilities. Consult with your Recruiter during the initial call to determine a more targeted range based on these job-related factors. As Principal Software Cybersecurity Engineer you will be responsible for;

The Role
The Senior Mechatronics Engineer will report to the Head of Hardware Engineering and support the development of custom end effector, tool, and HW system designs for robotic manipulation and autonomous vehicle systems. This position requires strong mechanical design skills, attention to detail, and an ability to learn in unstructured environments.
Successful candidates will have a demonstrated history of contributing technically to the design and implementation of complex components of robotic systems from scratch.
This role is mission-critical for helping deliver a safety-critical system for industrial automation. The opportunity offers a technical, hands-on team member the chance to help develop a market-defining enterprise product that combines autonomous vehicle technology with a software-as-a-service (SaaS) business model.
The ideal candidate will embrace our goal to drive zero-emission, self-driving vehicle adoption, and help us realize our potential to define, build, and lead a new category of robotic automation for the enterprise.
This role is based in Denver, CO.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Design and maintain parts and complex CAD assemblies
- Brainstorm and prototype electro-mechanical, and pneumatic tools for automation systems and robotic manipulators
- Lead reliability initiatives by analyzing failure modes, implementing design and process improvements, and driving corrective actions to improve product performance, durability, and lifecycle cost.
- Work with vendors and select components based on design analysis, requirements, and performance
- Collaborate with software team members to incorporate desired sensing mechanisms and account for HW/SW integrated system design considerations
- Design and build reliability test fixtures to simulate real-world operating conditions, enabling accelerated life testing, failure analysis, and validation of design robustness.
- Support field testing and debugging, both locally and at remote customer sites
Required qualifications
- 5+ years of experience with integrated software/hardware systems such as robotics, autonomous vehicles, or other automotive/aerospace products
- BS or MS in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, computer science, computer engineering, electrical/electronics engineering, or a similar discipline
- Experience designing complex electro-mechanical, and pneumatic systems from concept to product, including driving cost reduction initiatives and designing for scale
- Experience working with linear and rotary actuators
- Experience designing and documenting machined parts, weldments, sheet metal components, and assemblies
- Experience creating and maintaining detailed mechanical drawings (GD&T, tolerances, and BOMs) to support test and manufacturing.
- Knowledge and experience selecting, designing, and/or integrating sensors to understand the state of a system
- Experience with the product development lifecycle - particularly design for manufacture, reliability, and cost
- Ability to perform finite element analysis and iterate designs based on results
- Experience using basic shop equipment (3d printer, bandsaw, mill, drill, etc) to build rapid prototypes
- Strong technical analysis skills

You will work with a team of experts researching emerging technologies, coming up with novel solutions for the problems posed by our research sponsors, exploring new concepts for products, prototyping ideas, and leading small teams to develop and to enhance advanced features related to RTI’s secure real-time connectivity platform, Connext. This is an individual contributor role. Duties will include:
- Innovate new solutions that will form the foundation of secure, adaptable, and fast distributed systems.
- Create and execute long-term strategic research activities.
- Work with the business development team to define research areas of interest and define interesting research proposal topics.
- Write research proposals and project reports.
- Execute and lead research contracts to push our technology forward. Serve in the role of Principal Investigator and/or Staff Member on externally-funded research projects.
- Actively interface with research project sponsors, customers, research partners, and prospects.
- Keeping abreast of emerging technology trends and sharing your insights across RTI.
- Communicate technical innovations through papers and presentations.
- Support the transition of promising technical innovations to product including customer trials, coordinating with product management, and working closely with the engineering team to design, develop, test and support this transition.
🎯 What We’re Looking For / Requirements
- Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field. Studies related to distributed systems, peer-to-peer networks, or computer networking. Solid understanding of computer network protocols; network and system programming, and real-time and/or high-performance applications.
- 7+ years of experience in distributed systems research.
- Excellent written communications skills, and evidence of research publications. Experience writing and winning proposals, and research project management.
- Solid programming skills (e.g. C/C++, Java, Python or other scripting languages).
- Demonstrated ability to work with cutting edge technology/hardware with little to no support.
- Ability to work successfully / actively engage with a highly distributed team.

You will work with a team of experts researching emerging technologies, coming up with novel solutions for the problems posed by our research sponsors, exploring new concepts for products, prototyping ideas, and leading small teams to develop and to enhance advanced features related to RTI’s secure real-time connectivity platform, Connext. This is an individual contributor role. Duties will include:
- Innovate new solutions that will form the foundation of secure, adaptable, and fast distributed systems.
- Create and execute long-term strategic research activities.
- Work with the business development team to define research areas of interest and define interesting research proposal topics.
- Write research proposals and project reports.
- Execute and lead research contracts to push our technology forward. Serve in the role of Principal Investigator and/or Staff Member on externally-funded research projects.
