What you will be doing
We are looking for an International Affairs Research Analyst with knowledge in political sciences to help us build our SaaS-based anti-money laundering solutions, which help organisations fight financial crime! You’ll get involved in measuring and building out our data coverage related to anti-money laundering (AML), mainly focused on sanctions and watchlists (targeted financial sanctions, sanctioned vessels, warning lists).
As an International Affairs Research Analyst for Sanctions and Watchlists, you will:
- Execute research assignments on the scope of sanctions or warning lists
- Assess the accuracy and quality of existing data
- Support the team in identifying coverage improvement needs
- Work closely with Product and Data to ensure we exceed client expectations in relation to our data coverage and quality.
About you
As an International Affairs Research Analyst for Sanctions and Watchlists, you will:
- Have excellent research skills and a desire to understand issues holistically
- Have a broad understanding of principles of government structures around the world
- Have an outstanding level of attention to detail, and likely adopt a methodological approach to much of your research
- Enjoy working in a collaborative environment, have well-developed interpersonal skills, and the ability to support and mentor your colleagues
- Proficient English language skills

The impact you will have
It is key for our clients to know whether a customer or business has been sanctioned or appears on a watchlist. In this role, you will take ownership of correctly assessing updates to our existing database and execute internal quality assurance processes preparing data to be displayed accurately to clients.

About the Role - Junior Software Engineer (Internship)
We’re looking for a Junior Software Engineer Intern for a 3-month summer internship who’s excited to learn, curious about how real systems work, and comfortable jumping across the stack with guidance from experienced engineers.
Location requirement: Candidates must be based in Cluj-Napoca or Bucharest.
- Build and improve backend services that power real-time AI features and search
- Help design and implement APIs for internal and external integrations
- Contribute across the stack when needed (backend, frontend, infrastructure)
- Work closely with product managers, ML engineers, and other software engineers
- Take tasks from implementation through deployment, with mentorship and code reviews
Participate in technical discussions and learn best practices through hands-on work
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (or currently pursuing one)
- Strong problem-solving skills and a solid foundation in computer science
- Familiarity with at least one backend language (Python, Go, Node.js, or similar)
- Basic experience working with APIs (REST, gRPC, or equivalent)
- Willingness to learn, ask questions, and collaborate with others
- Clear communication skills and a team-oriented mindset
- International programming or math olympiad prizes are a strong plus

Nice to Have - 0–2 years of experience in software engineering (internships count)
- Exposure to databases like PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, Elasticsearch, or similar
- Basic understanding of system design, distributed systems, or cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)
- Some familiarity with frontend development (React or similar frameworks)

As a Software Engineer, you will:
- Play a substantial role in the Cresta engineering team, focusing on building and continuously improving the Cresta platform to support new product requirements.
- Collaborate with Cresta's product and engineering teams to develop high-quality, well-designed, reusable, and well-tested system components.
- Stay closely aligned with customers and their requirements, analyzing technical trade-offs and owning customer-facing deliverables.

Qualifications:

- Experience handling real-time streaming data (audio or video) with high throughput and low latency.
- Familiarity with high-performance database schema design and query optimization.
- Experience with containerized application deployment using Kubernetes.
- Hands-on experience with one of the major cloud providers (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
